YES!!! Lollll!!! I went back over the spot twice while cracking up! The moment added more joy to my dinner, alright. You know what, I think we should create a list of his favorite sayings from his videos, for example: "The Don King Wig hairstyle", "The Bokeh Balls", "My Own Wife's Money" (Please, correct me if I'm wrong on any) But definitely caught me by surprise, once again. Thank you Mark Bennett!!! Best to you all!!!
I've been using this lens non-stop since Prime Day earlier this summer, and I LOVE it! Build quality is great and it has held up to some abuse. The focus motors are loud, but I usually have my audio recording off camera anyway. This lens is worth every penny. I have the sigma 16 and 30 for my ZV-E10, and I really wanted a longer focal range, but wasn't ready to commit to the price of the sigma 56. This was a perfect compromise.
The best line I've ever heard about the use cases of a lens is from Professor Hines. "When you see the box of the lens, there is the aperture value and the focal length. There isn't a word about it being a street lens or a portrait lens. Use the lens as you want." or something similar. It's in a video from Jason Vong with Professor Hines about street photography.
Love the professor. And yes you can use a lens however you want. But a lot of people like to know a frame of reference in terms they can understand if they're new.
I picked up this lens recently and love it. I've been shooting APSC for nearly 20 years and one mainstay in my kit has always been a nifty fifty, and this is arguably the best one I've used. I'm a very budget conscious photographer, so I've never shot a G Master or anything like that, but the only other 50mm that came close was my favourite for a very long time, the Nikon 50mm F1.8. It's just crazy to me how good these third party lenses are now, in terms of optical quality, build quality, autofocus, coatings, etc., and let alone for the extremely affordable prices they're selling for. This is probably the most exciting time that I've experienced as a photographer, by having such a huge amount of lenses to choose from, it's given me a lot of opportunity to experiment and be creative and rekindle some of the passion I may have lost along the way.
I bought it for my FUJIFILM X-T2 instead of the Viltrox f/1.7 equivalent. I would have preferred the Viltrox since it apparently has a slightly better image quality, an aperture ring and min. focus distance, but the near $100 USD price of the TTArtisan vs the almost $200 USD price of the Viltrox steered my decision on a whim. I already have the TTArt. 27mm f/2.8 and while it has very good IQ, the lens does feels "cheap". To my surprise, this 56mm feels significantly more robust, as you mentioned, to the point where you would think these are some $200 USD in price difference. Even on my X-T2 autofocus is quite fast, which highly surprised me (one advantage over the Viltrox one). I am also a fan of the "can" lens hood, but this is my only nitpick about the lens, since the lens hood cannot be mounted when the lens cap is on (but really it's a nitpick lol). Honestly great job from TTArtisan!
Just got home from 4 nights of cabin camping with a couple of my kids. Fired up the garage PC to listen to some of the latest while unpacking and sure enough your video is sitting in the feed. Ordered one from Amaz for $129.00. I selected 4 day instead of 2 day (so I have more time to cancel the order) as I am going to check pricing tomorrow Nov 1st and see if it's still $129 as tomorrow will give me a 90 day Holiday return policy so my daughter and I can check it out after Christmas. Thanks for the recommendation. All we have for the A6400 is the kit and Sigma 30mm. Also your link though sent me to one costing $168 sold by VITOPAL. I searched again and found it sold by TTArtisan for $129. But if Holiday return policy is going tomorrow and price is still $129 I am going to cancel todays order and rebuy it tomorrow. Thanks!!
Nice video! Thanks!!! I love TTArtisan now. They sent me a 7.5mm F2 on October 10th AND BAM, we had a perfect solar storm that same day, but the worst weather on earth. My a6700 was working on a time lapse on the 13mm Viltrox, but one of the greatest moments I captured was with the TTArtisan on the ZV-E10 when the cloud cover briefly broke! The video work is not yet finished. I'm not a RUclipsr who produces as quickly as you...🤣
Am going to get one of these. I don't have an 85mm equiv prime for my camera. I never really had a need really. But at this price, I will put one in my kit. Great review and announcement. Cheers.
50mm f1.8 was free (old days of film), f1.4 is paid zoom (35mm film equivalent of 24mm-to-135mm, f2.8 to f5.6), with (tripod screw)mount-coupler, from nikon-z to - gopro, insta360, ... maybe interesting with mentioned past year of manufacturing improvements. past year have 170% relative humidity, especially for hong-kong news.
Good review Mark when you said how you paid for it I laughed and thought maybe she'd toss a paper airplane at you ,jk , I have been using my Sony A-mount SAM 50mm f1.8 on my A74 with the LA-EA5 adapter and it works good no problems so far and this is also APS-C as the Sony 50mm i have i think would be a good purchase for me, and it is good to have a bit more modern lens at the 50mm focal length, I'll check it out 👍
This is an excellent value for the price. My only complaint is that this lens lacks contrast. I use it on my Fuji XT5 and it has decent sharpness but it lacks in the contrast department. Still for the price one can't complain.
I like taking photos but I'm not quite at a hobby stage, I have an A6100 and a Tamron 17-70, but that's pretty much my budget. If I want to have fun with a portrait prime or a wide angle I don't have the money for a $400-500+ lens I might not use, I picked up the TTArtisan 56mm f/1.8 and I'm looking forward to having fun with a fixed focal length. I dont care if it's not as sharp as a Sigma/Tamron/Sony lens, I just want a different perspective at a cheap price!
Hello Mark. I bought this on 10-11-2024 for $129 ahead of my Sony FX30 arriving. I haven't used it yet nor my FX30. I also like the fact that the connection on the cover allows for firmware upgrades. My next lens I would like to buy is 7Artisan 35mm T1.05 Cine Lens for Sony-E-Mount. I have looked and I don't think TTArtisan has the cine lenses, I could be wrong so I will choose the 7Artisan cine lens for next purchase. Thanks for the review Mark.

Needless to say, like many old fart photographer's I've had and still have my Sigma 50mm f1.4 lens. And I do purchase Chinese lenses, just bought the Viltrox 23mm f1.4.
