A plane can get hijacked at any moment. Doesn't the USA have any protocols on what to do, what questions to ask, who to call etc. should someone in a plane report a hijacking situation? "The cockpits not answering, somebody's stabbed in business class"
What Betty said there disturbed me to my core. Imagine being on a plane as a flight attendant. You're told that somebody was stabbed and nobody can get up to the cockpit because there's mace that's making it hard to breathe. Then when you try phoning the cockpit, nobody answers. This would be so terrifying and confusing. The 911 operator said that in the part of the call that wasn't recorded, Betty apparently said "We're flying very erratically" I very much respect her for remaining as calm as she could, probably so she wouldn't scare passengers, and giving law enforcement as much information on the hijacking as possible.

Flight attendants receive extensive training in crisis management and are drilled on responding calmly to emergency situations including potential hijackings. This was after all the era of the PLO, the IRA and etc. Also, keep in mind that during an emergency the passengers are going to be watching and listening to the flight attendants to gauge their reaction, so she would have been trying her best to appear confident and calm. Shannon Quinn can you imagine being a flight attendant post 9/11?? With all the added fees, the restrictions, the stress of every passenger amped up the way it is now? The airlines have imposed this upon us, but also upon the their own flight attendants who are now enforcing rules they had no part in creating. The airlines know the unfair burden they have placed on flight attendants, and seem perfectly happy to allow them to bear the brunt of the consequences of their greedy actions. It’s rotten. It’s like blaming the waitress for the crappy food at a restaurant. It has nothing to do with her, yet she has to deal with the fallout of a decision made by some jackass several paygrades above her.

I think I remember reading that all of the hijackers of Flight 11 were in the cockpit at the time of impact. Yes, pilot stabbed, send jets in and alert national security for the outcome that happened m, to try and be prevented. We can’t turn back the clock back but wasting time and poor hearing isn’t good enough.
What flight are you on: 11
      She’s on flight 12
      No it’s flight 11
She had to overhear a wrong traffic controllers information to correct it. If the traffic controller had muted her for 0.4 seconds while she relayed that information I would say it could have been an awful outcome but it appears giving information was pointless because the people trying to help on that call were as useless as a boat with holes in it.

Ok, what's your name? ... "Betty Ong." ... "and what seat are you in?".... "my Jump Seat, at 3R"... "and are you the flight attendant?" ... "I'm number 3 on Flight 11." ... "And, which plane are you on?"... "Flight 11." ... "and what seat are you in?".... "3R"..."And what is your name?".... "Betty Ong"... "and what flight are you on?"... "11"..."and what seat are you in?" "Jump seat"..."What flight number are we talking about?"..."12"..."No. I'm on Flight 11.." etc... It's like some kind of skit, only it's very tragic. I'm just struck by how poorly the communication is going in this clip. Here this brave woman is trying to call for help and it's like the people on the other end of the phone have no idea what to do about it, or what questions to ask. Much time is wasted repeating the same questions. Obviously, nobody was prepared for what happened, and I can imagine being dumbstruck by the events. I do think, however, one of the lessons learned, or rather one of the flaws in the system exposed by 9-11, is the inefficiency of the communication process in emergency events. People in the towers didn't know what was happening, many of them, and so squandered precious minutes that could have made the difference in survival. Elon Musk made an interesting observation once that people communicate with each other at the rate of a few bits per second. He noted that an AI interacting with us would be like a human talking to a tree. The point is that enhancing the communication rate in these kinds of situations could greatly improve the outcomes. Of course, the information has to be correct for people to make good decisions. Heck, in the South Tower, instead of an evacuation notice, the intercom was broadcasting "return to your seat, the building is secure" messages. I'm not blaming anyone, it was such an unexpected scenario, but knowing what happened can be a guide to improving preparedness in the future.
