You’re right, I heard that last part, “I’ll see her in the next world,” too…it’s shocking to hear that, but not shocking at the same time. Shocking because I can’t even begin to imagine what she felt as she was gasping for air and knowing her life was coming to a sudden end. She had just turned 32 on September 1st, and I just found out that she did evacuate initially and even made it down to the 44th floor. But took an elevator to go back up to the 78th floor after it was announced that the building was safe and people should return to wherever they were previously. OMG, that’s just horrifying beyond belief and tragic!!!! Now her “I’ll see her in the next world” will forever be stuck in my head.
I'm about her age, and as someone who has been diagnosed with two separate cancers in the past year and a half, I can say that when you truly say those words and mean it, its as ordinary as instant oatmeal. death is no big whoop, unless you are living in your head, then it seems like a big deal. I saved about 200mg of oxycontin and some anti nausea pills from my first surgery, and am going to use it if/when things get really bad, which I hope isn't for several years or never. I even told my family to prepare for it. im just happy I had a good life with good people who care about me, and am ready to go when its my time. still really sad though, and im sure its harder in some ways when its so sudden like this, but death is nothing to be afraid of so long as you are actually living your life. we all take that dreaded step eventually.

I think it’s incredible that we gravitate to these videos and religious or not we think about those who perished in the Towers. I’m an Atheist but I hope those people somehow metaphysically feel our concern and empathy to how they perished. I hope they somehow feel us listening to their stories of their ends.
this is why i can't stand people who judge "jumpers" or who don't count them as real victims. no one went to work that day planning to die. but when you're mere feet above such an inferno, with no escape, and the flames and smoke and unbearable heat are closing in on you... you can't even begin to imagine what you would do in such a nightmare scenario. I was 9 years old on 9/11. And I'm now 32, the same age that Melissa was when she died. When I was a kid, 32 seemed pretty old, but now that I'm that age, I still feel so young and I can't imagine having to face death the way she did. I'd be beyond terrified and so not ready to go. 😢 It upsets me so much to think of what she went though and I truly hope she is at peace somewhere.
Every time I think about this phone call, I start crying. For me, Melissa is the face of the victims. Every victim suffered so much and this phone call makes the event so real to me, given I was weeks old when 9/11 took place

Interestingly, some researchers have suggested that promising victims in this situation that they’ll be rescued, that help is coming and everything will be ok, knowing that there is no hope of rescue and they are likely to die, is the wrong thing to do. After hearing Doi’s call, its been suggested that false assurances contribute to distress, prevent the victim from accepting their fate, and possibly from doing the last things they want to do, like speaking to loved ones, saying their peace, their last words, or even choosing their manner of death. For instance, if Doi had known her actual circumstance, that a plane had decimated the floors just below her and a fire was raging and there was basically no hope of rescue and survival, what might she have done differently? What actions might she have taken to prevent an hour of torture? Would she have hung up the 911 call and called her mother? Also, did she have a right to know what was responsible for her death? So many people died not knowing what happened. Down below, everyone knew about the planes, the extensive damage, the raging fire, even that it was likely a terrorist attack. But the people who were actually dying in the buildings were in the dark. Perhaps something like: “Melissa, I’m so sorry you’re hurting. Rescue is doing everything they can but your situation is dire. A large plane crashed into your building a few floors down and you are correct about the fire. I’ll stay on the phone as long as you like. If there’s anyone you want to talk to, or anything you need to say, now is the time, and I’ll facilitate that. I’ll answer any questions and help however I can. I’m so sorry.” And from there, answer questions honestly Anyway, I don’t blame the operator and I think she did what she was trained to do. But some have called for revised guidelines for operators in this particular scenario and I wonder if they’re right. Treating people with dignity at the end of their life is part of their job sometimes. They don’t need to say “You’re going to die”, but I believe they can be more honest in a compassionate way.
I will forever believe in my heart that when she heard voices it was Stanley Praimnath and Brian Clark after Brian saved Stanley. In another interview with Brian Clark he said he thought he heard someone yell for help when heading down in that same area.
They must have been just a few floors down from the impact zone which is horrendous because they were so near yet so far. No way they could have gotten to her even if she got their attention. Poor lady I feel panicky just thinking about being in her situation. It's not something anyone will ever be able to comprehend. Just awful.

I feel like the operator was doing her best under the circumstances but what Melissa, an intelligent, smart woman, needed was some humanity. Not the standard by the book responses. She knew, felt this was her last moments on earth. Her fears were being dismissed and she knew better. Bless her, so courageous.

Have to remember this was the first tower that collapsed. A lot of them thought they might be rescued. They didnt expect the building to collapse. Now for those trapped in the second tower that collapsed, they had it BAD because surely they knew the other tower came down and then im very sure it hit them that there was little hope for them. Many people in the first tower had hope until the end.

whenever i watch videos from 9/11, I think about the people in the tower looking out the window at how close safety is...but how they can't get to it. Beyond heartbreaking.

From what I gather she and many others worked on that floor with their company. Hard to believe they stuck around after the first plane, if they'd made any attempt to go down they would have missed the impact. Shame that the Port Authority would tell people to return to their work, and assure them everything was secure. After what happened in 1993, that was awful planning (or lack of), and cost a lot of people their lives.
It makes me angry that she had made it out and returned to her office when told it was safe, only to be killed by that second plane. RIP Melissa. We’re all thinking about you.
Yeah, everyone always says how it was reasonable at the time to assume that the first plane hitting the north tower was an accident, and that nobody could have possibly foreseen it being a terrorist attack and that something might happen to the south tower too. But like, hello? Was the World Trade Center not already attacked in 1993? It really seems like they should have at least considered the possibility and let everyone in the south tower evacuate immediately.
My teacher was teaching us about 9/11 today and she said that she was this girls advisor at northwestern University. A year after 9/11 she heard her voice on the tv and it was very traumatic for her to hear it.
She made it down to the 44th floor and then went up the elevator because they made an announcement that it was safe 😡- just wished she kept going down those stairs. Rip sweet angel. I can’t stop crying after hearing this.
@@celestephelps7261 That's not true, she died during this phone call. During the call she fell asleep/unconscious because of all the smoke inhalation and all they could hear was her snoring until the call cut off about 15 min before the tower collapsed. At least she didn't have to witness that.
I used to get so upset when I listened to these tapes and hear the dispatchers say, “stay calm”. Now, I think they say it really to help calm their own nerves because it’s so devastating hearing people go through tragedies like this. 🙏🏽
Well, not to mention normally they’re trying to get relevant information from the caller so that they know how to address the situation. Or they’re trying to keep the caller on the line until help arrives. That’s why they ask these questions repeatedly that may sound dumb to us.
@@PianoDisneygal10 Exactly. They need to constantly know what's going on at the scene to accurately give possible life saving information to first responders. I work in an ER and I explain to patients that the reason we all keep asking them about symptoms, daily activities ext is to get the most clear picture we can to give the best treatment we can. It may come off as annoying, or like we haven't fully paid attention to the story, but we're really just assessing the situation as thoroughly as possible. Kudos to all the operators out there.
Well outside of any other detail- there is fire & alot of smoke they need to keep the person calm so they dont hyperventilate & use up any/all oxygen left in the room/space or pass out/die from smoke inhalation before possible rescue
If im a 911 dispatcher i'm might be fired on that day, if im taking that call i might get panicked and crying on that situation. Kudos to this dispatcher she did not leave her in the very end, rest in peace...
Good God! I am heartbroken! Hearing the victim’s despair and the emergency responder’s conversation is gut wrenching! I am impressed with the calm voice. It couldn’t have been easy to maintain composure at that time. I pray for all the dear souls who perished, innocent victims of evil. With this brutal assault we are forced to realize our vulnerability and become increasingly vigilant. This must never happen again! Appreciate the survivors who bravely and in spite of their own injuries and fear assisted other occupants to safety. The first responders, God bless them! With a calamity as this, how could they have prepared better? But they were magnificent and rescued and recovered as efficiently and courageously as possible. May God bless them.🇺🇸
This was a credit to the 911 operator as well, for staying on the phone with her. I would hope to have someone so sweet on the line with me, plus making sure that her mother got the message that she was who was on her mind at the end. This is so hard..in the original there are some parts that are cut out toward the end, and it sounds like Melissa was witnessing people with her jumping, and was thinking about having to jump herself. The dispatcher tells her not to do it and says Oh my God. It being this graphic is probably the reason for the lengthy court battle which resulted in the release of the tape, with these parts edited. She was right above the impact. RIP

But you can still hear Melissa every now and then when the bleeps fail to cover her side up perfectly, you can hear her dying 😞... Even though her side is censored it’s still the worst thing I’ve heard. And this clip we have here is uncensored but in the original full recording this part is censored. I’ve listened to it all for the first time today. I’ve only heard the famous beginning clip before today. All I can think about today is poor Melissa 😞. I didn’t even know her but listening to these recordings I feel as if I’m listening to a close friend or sister pass away 😢…

She actually initially evacuated and made her way down to the 44th floor when it was announced that the building was safe and people should return to their offices, so she got into an elevator and went back up to the 78th floor and then the second plane hit just below her. @@RoyalPurpleStar that’s just awful. I wish people had not listened to that. I saw some footage of guards literally blocking people from going down to the lobby. The lesson here is that in those situations you must just push you’re way out. Those guards don’t have authority over your life. What a huge loss.

@@RoyalPurpleStar no she definitely didn't jump. She suffocated from the smoke and passed out, that's why we later hear snoring sounds which can happen in tragedies like this. The full recording actually shows a lot more and was kept with the family and during a court case on 9/11 for other potential hijackers who are said would have been involved but other planes were forced to land and not air after hearing about Flight 11 and Flight 175 crashing into the World Trade Center. Got to remember as well the amount of smoke they were breathing in, the heat and possibly breathing in that burning fuel. She was a floor above the impact zone and probably in that darkness from smoke she didn't risk searching for the stairway, understandably out of possibly thinking the floor could collapse in on them, etc. Remember, a lot of victims were blinded by the smoke and in the chaos some didn't actually "jump" out of the windows but actually fell. Tragic, They had to break windows to get air in and sometimes accidents happen. In other cases it was about a needed action, some were so desperate they couldn't see help coming and feared being burned to death so jumped willingly to be put out of their misery. Never again! RIP.
OMG. I am ashamed to say that I have never heard this poor woman’s story before now. It is September 2020, and I am just now hearing about the final moments of her life. I cried. I cried a lot today. Listening to the stories of people who should be here with us today. The horrific, unimaginable experiences of those who died that day. EVERYBODY should hear their final moments. This is how we NEVER FORGET. And this is why we must NEVER FORGIVE.

Remember that if your mom finds a time in her life where she needs family. I'm staying with my mom instead of her going into a nursing home, even though she told her friends that she took me in, in exchange for doing chores. I realize she has alzheimer's and can't remember that my dad died 18 years ago, let alone why I'm here, but I don't care. I'm keeping her out of a lonely situation.

I’m happy your mom got a child like you, whose willing to stay with her. I’ve had a lot of family from the west, and them just leaving their parents in nursing homes is unfathomable to us. On the original recording of Melissa, which I heard many years ago, the way she began slipping in and out of consciousness, from being overcome by the smoke was audible. You could hear every sound, her struggling to breathe etc The parts here where you hear her breathing forcefully into the phone receiver. That’s the beginning of what I’m talking about. I’m glad they updated it where you can’t hear that now. Frankly, it was beyond haunting. It’s still absolutely heartbreaking. I’m sobbing. Again.
I was wondering about that. I was with both parents when they died from respiratory illnesses years apart and the labored breathing and struggling for air is haunting and disturbing. It is not something I wish anyone to go through.
but it has things I've never heard before .. this appears to be the unedited version that wasn't released to the public. The one that was released to the public had the message to her mother edited out as well as most of her suffering/coughing. I'm really curious how they got this unedited version.

she is having a panic attack, which is natural, she is in a fight or flight situation where she wants to run but cannot, she has this energy in a panicked situation which is a burst of adrenaline but has nowhere to put it as the stairwell is blocked from her... and so is facing the fear of death without an outlet...she can't get down, her option is to die there and die or jump. the despatcher did a great job trying to get her to focus on other things than where she is now. that was very very important...to keep the mind off of panic and breathing. melissa felt hot and that she couldn't breath, but lasted quite long on the call and had enough air to talk, scream and stay conscious... which makes me wonder if the towers didnt collapse maybe she would have survived...but i have listened to the full call and some reports melissa died on the phone as it went quiet or unconcious snoring the woman despatcher heard
Just a fyi, the end part of the recording was NEVER released to the public. The reason any of the 24+ minute call she made to a 911 dispatcher was released at all was because it was used as evidence in the Zacarias Moussaoui trial after 9-11 happened. Moussaoui was supposed to be 1 of the hijackers but was arrested a month before in Minnesota for immigration violations. So after 9-11 the Federal govt charged Moussaoui. At the trial the govt used around 4 minutes of the very long Melissa Doi call to the 911 operator as evidence, thus allowing the public to hear her voice and interaction with the operator in the first 4 minutes. The rest has to my knowledge never been released and probably never will. That's why if you try and listen on youtube and other sites to the full 24+ minutes of it, you will mostly hear Melissa's voice get beeped out. I am not sure how this part where she asks the operator to call her mother, spells her name and tells the operator what to say to her mother got released on here. I'm glad like many others that we got to hear it although it's very very sad. But I just wanted everyone to know that it wasn't authorized to be released.

The saddest thing about this, is she was supposed to leave for vacation on Friday, 3 days after the attack. She was originally supposed to go the Friday BEFORE 9/11 but due to work constraints, she switched it to the 14th. She was going to Italy.
To be fair to the dispatcher I don't think anything she could say would be possible to calm her down. Melissa was dying and she knew it and I have to commend her for how composed she actually was considering her situation. I would not be able to string a sentence together or else would just be screaming.
@ko7577Exactly that. Even if the towers hadn’t collapsed, there was no guarantee that Melissa and others would have survived a rescue attempt, given how they were dying from smoke inhalation. However, in those moments, hope in the form of a firefighter or a dispatcher’s words would have provided great comfort.
This reminds me of another testimony at the nearby hotel at the WTC. A firefighter came in, after the first tower collapsed and said, everyone is dead, no one is going to help you. So they helped themselves. Another tragedy of 9/11 was waiting for help instead of doing whatever was possible to get out.

I'm about her age, and as someone who has been diagnosed with two separate cancers in the past year and a half, I can say that when you truly say those words and mean it, its as ordinary as instant oatmeal. death is no big whoop, unless you are living in your head, then it seems like a big deal. I saved about 200mg of oxycontin and some anti nausea pills from my first surgery, and am going to use it if/when things get really bad, which I hope isn't for several years or never. I even told my family to prepare for it. im just happy I had a good life with good people who care about me, and am ready to go when its my time. still really sad though, and im sure its harder in some ways when its so sudden like this, but death is nothing to be afraid of so long as you are actually living your life. we all take that dreaded step eventually.

I was 9 years old on 9/11. And I'm now 32, the same age that Melissa was when she died. When I was a kid, 32 seemed pretty old, but now that I'm that age, I still feel so young and I can't imagine having to face death the way she did. I'd be beyond terrified and so not ready to go. 😢 It upsets me so much to think of what she went though and I truly hope she is at peace somewhere.

Interestingly, some researchers have suggested that promising victims in this situation that they’ll be rescued, that help is coming and everything will be ok, knowing that there is no hope of rescue and they are likely to die, is the wrong thing to do. After hearing Doi’s call, its been suggested that false assurances contribute to distress, prevent the victim from accepting their fate, and possibly from doing the last things they want to do, like speaking to loved ones, saying their peace, their last words, or even choosing their manner of death. For instance, if Doi had known her actual circumstance, that a plane had decimated the floors just below her and a fire was raging and there was basically no hope of rescue and survival, what might she have done differently? What actions might she have taken to prevent an hour of torture? Would she have hung up the 911 call and called her mother? Also, did she have a right to know what was responsible for her death? So many people died not knowing what happened. Down below, everyone knew about the planes, the extensive damage, the raging fire, even that it was likely a terrorist attack. But the people who were actually dying in the buildings were in the dark.
Perhaps something like: “Melissa, I’m so sorry you’re hurting. Rescue is doing everything they can but your situation is dire. A large plane crashed into your building a few floors down and you are correct about the fire. I’ll stay on the phone as long as you like. If there’s anyone you want to talk to, or anything you need to say, now is the time, and I’ll facilitate that. I’ll answer any questions and help however I can. I’m so sorry.” And from there, answer questions honestly
Anyway, I don’t blame the operator and I think she did what she was trained to do. But some have called for revised guidelines for operators in this particular scenario and I wonder if they’re right. Treating people with dignity at the end of their life is part of their job sometimes. They don’t need to say “You’re going to die”, but I believe they can be more honest in a compassionate way.
I will forever believe in my heart that when she heard voices it was Stanley Praimnath and Brian Clark after Brian saved Stanley. In another interview with Brian Clark he said he thought he heard someone yell for help when heading down in that same area.
They must have been just a few floors down from the impact zone which is horrendous because they were so near yet so far. No way they could have gotten to her even if she got their attention. Poor lady I feel panicky just thinking about being in her situation. It's not something anyone will ever be able to comprehend. Just awful.

Have to remember this was the first tower that collapsed. A lot of them thought they might be rescued. They didnt expect the building to collapse. Now for those trapped in the second tower that collapsed, they had it BAD because surely they knew the other tower came down and then im very sure it hit them that there was little hope for them. Many people in the first tower had hope until the end.

From what I gather she and many others worked on that floor with their company. Hard to believe they stuck around after the first plane, if they'd made any attempt to go down they would have missed the impact. Shame that the Port Authority would tell people to return to their work, and assure them everything was secure. After what happened in 1993, that was awful planning (or lack of), and cost a lot of people their lives.

Yeah, everyone always says how it was reasonable at the time to assume that the first plane hitting the north tower was an accident, and that nobody could have possibly foreseen it being a terrorist attack and that something might happen to the south tower too. But like, hello? Was the World Trade Center not already attacked in 1993? It really seems like they should have at least considered the possibility and let everyone in the south tower evacuate immediately.
My teacher was teaching us about 9/11 today and she said that she was this girls advisor at northwestern University.
A year after 9/11 she heard her voice on the tv and it was very traumatic for her to hear it.

@@celestephelps7261 That's not true, she died during this phone call. During the call she fell asleep/unconscious because of all the smoke inhalation and all they could hear was her snoring until the call cut off about 15 min before the tower collapsed. At least she didn't have to witness that.

Well, not to mention normally they’re trying to get relevant information from the caller so that they know how to address the situation. Or they’re trying to keep the caller on the line until help arrives. That’s why they ask these questions repeatedly that may sound dumb to us.

I work in an ER and I explain to patients that the reason we all keep asking them about symptoms, daily activities ext is to get the most clear picture we can to give the best treatment we can. It may come off as annoying, or like we haven't fully paid attention to the story, but we're really just assessing the situation as thoroughly as possible. Kudos to all the operators out there.
Well outside of any other detail- there is fire & alot of smoke they need to keep the person calm so they dont hyperventilate & use up any/all oxygen left in the room/space or pass out/die from smoke inhalation before possible rescue

Good God! I am heartbroken! Hearing the victim’s despair and the emergency responder’s conversation is gut wrenching! I am impressed with the calm voice. It couldn’t have been easy to maintain composure at that time. I pray for all the dear souls who perished, innocent victims of evil. With this brutal assault we are forced to realize our vulnerability and become increasingly vigilant. This must never happen again! Appreciate the survivors who bravely and in spite of their own injuries and fear assisted other occupants to safety. The first responders, God bless them! With a calamity as this, how could they have prepared better? But they were magnificent and rescued and recovered as efficiently and courageously as possible. May God bless them.🇺🇸

The dispatcher tells her not to do it and says Oh my God. It being this graphic is probably the reason for the lengthy court battle which resulted in the release of the tape, with these parts edited. She was right above the impact. RIP

Yeah, don’t think she was in denial at all, just in complete and utter disbelief because it was so sudden, which any human being would’ve felt if you suddenly realize that your life is ending in minutes, in the most horrific way possible. She actually initially evacuated and made her way down to the 44th floor when it was announced that the building was safe and people should return to their offices, so she got into an elevator and went back up to the 78th floor and then the second plane hit just below her. Tragic…😭😭

The lesson here is that in those situations you must just push you’re way out. Those guards don’t have authority over your life. What a huge loss.

@@RoyalPurpleStar no she definitely didn't jump. She suffocated from the smoke and passed out, that's why we later hear snoring sounds which can happen in tragedies like this. The full recording actually shows a lot more and was kept with the family and during a court case on 9/11 for other potential hijackers who are said would have been involved but other planes were forced to land and not air after hearing about Flight 11 and Flight 175 crashing into the World Trade Center.
Got to remember as well the amount of smoke they were breathing in, the heat and possibly breathing in that burning fuel. She was a floor above the impact zone and probably in that darkness from smoke she didn't risk searching for the stairway, understandably out of possibly thinking the floor could collapse in on them, etc.
Remember, a lot of victims were blinded by the smoke and in the chaos some didn't actually "jump" out of the windows but actually fell. Tragic,
They had to break windows to get air in and sometimes accidents happen.
In other cases it was about a needed action, some were so desperate they couldn't see help coming and feared being burned to death so jumped willingly to be put out of their misery.
Never again!

Remember that if your mom finds a time in her life where she needs family. I'm staying with my mom instead of her going into a nursing home, even though she told her friends that she took me in, in exchange for doing chores. I realize she has alzheimer's and can't remember that my dad died 18 years ago, let alone why I'm here, but I don't care. I'm keeping her out of a lonely situation.
@@Jennifr1966 Where I’m from we dont leave our parents at all, ever. We stay with them till we’re married. When they get old they stay with us. We never leave their side and they never leave ours. I’m happy your mom got a child like you, whose willing to stay with her. I’ve had a lot of family from the west, and them just leaving their parents in nursing homes is unfathomable to us. This act of violence against enocent people left me deeply saddened , to all the families of those victims of that day my most sincere condolences .
After 9/11 I think we all looked at our lives differently. I cherish my family even more than I used to because you never know when your last day will be. RIP to everyone that died that day.

On the original recording of Melissa, which I heard many years ago, the way she began slipping in and out of consciousness, from being overcome by the smoke was audible. You could hear every sound, her struggling to breathe etc The parts here where you hear her breathing forcefully into the phone receiver. That’s the beginning of what I’m talking about.
I’m glad they updated it where you can’t hear that now. Frankly, it was beyond haunting. It’s still absolutely heartbreaking. I’m sobbing. Again.

I was wondering about that. I was with both parents when they died from respiratory illnesses years apart and the labored breathing and struggling for air is haunting and disturbing. It is not something I wish anyone to go through.

but it has things I've never heard before .. this appears to be the unedited version that wasn't released to the public. The one that was released to the public had the message to her mother edited out as well as most of her suffering/coughing. I'm really curious how they got this unedited version.

I have felt this terror of death ..
I had several severe panic attacks when I was young ...
of course their is no comparison but I do understand what it feels to think you are going to die...
don't wish this on anyone even my worst enemies ..

she is having a panic attack, which is natural, she is in a fight or flight situation where she wants to run but cannot, she has this energy in a panicked situation which is a burst of adrenaline but has nowhere to put it as the stairwell is blocked from her... and so is facing the fear of death without an outlet...she can't get down, her option is to die there and die or jump. the despatcher did a great job trying to get her to focus on other things than where she is now. that was very very important...to keep the mind off of panic and breathing. melissa felt hot and that she couldn't breath, but lasted quite long on the call and had enough air to talk, scream and stay conscious... which makes me wonder if the towers didnt collapse maybe she would have survived...but i have listened to the full call and some reports melissa died on the phone as it went quiet or unconcious snoring the woman despatcher heard
Just a fyi, the end part of the recording was NEVER released to the public. The reason any of the 24+ minute call she made to a 911 dispatcher was released at all was because it was used as evidence in the Zacarias Moussaoui trial after 9-11 happened. Moussaoui was supposed to be 1 of the hijackers but was arrested a month before in Minnesota for immigration violations. So after 9-11 the Federal govt charged Moussaoui.
At the trial the govt used around 4 minutes of the very long Melissa Doi call to the 911 operator as evidence, thus allowing the public to hear her voice and interaction with the operator in the first 4 minutes. The rest has to my knowledge never been released and probably never will. That's why if you try and listen on youtube and other sites to the full 24+ minutes of it, you will mostly hear Melissa's voice get beeped out. I am not sure how this part where she asks the operator to call her mother, spells her name and tells the operator what to say to her mother got released on here. I'm glad like many others that we got to hear it although it's very very sad. But I just wanted everyone to know that it wasn't authorized to be released.
@KenMac210 I don't but I read about her and why the first 4 minutes of the call she made was released to the public. Again this part should never have been made public. But it is what it is.
The saddest thing about this, is she was supposed to leave for vacation on Friday, 3 days after the attack. She was originally supposed to go the Friday BEFORE 9/11 but due to work constraints, she switched it to the 14th. She was going to Italy.

To be fair to the dispatcher I don't think anything she could say would be possible to calm her down. Melissa was dying and she knew it and I have to commend her for how composed she actually was considering her situation. I would not be able to string a sentence together or else would just be screaming.
@ko7577Exactly that. Even if the towers hadn’t collapsed, there was no guarantee that Melissa and others would have survived a rescue attempt, given how they were dying from smoke inhalation. However, in those moments, hope in the form of a firefighter or a dispatcher’s words would have provided great comfort.

This reminds me of another testimony at the nearby hotel at the WTC. A firefighter came in, after the first tower collapsed and said, everyone is dead, no one is going to help you. So they helped themselves. Another tragedy of 9/11 was waiting for help instead of doing whatever was possible to get out.
