We Bought 2 Abandoned Snowmobiles, Will They Run after 20 YEARS??

- We flew up to Iowa to visit Junkyard Digs for his $500 vintage snowmobile challenge! Kevin bought these two vintage snowmobiles that had been sitting in a barn since 2003, and we tried our best to get them running and riding again. Turns out snowmobiles are complicated machines that operate in the harshest conditions, so these 50 year old beasts were worn out and didn't want to run again!

I'll never complain about working in North Carolina winter again😅
It's not a proper Cars and Cameras video until Ike blows something up.
And you weren’t even doing the repairs trailside with the most basic tools.
Great episode. I just got out on the sled I bought 2 weeks ago. I planned Sunday but found the PO put the clutch together wrong and after fixing it in the snow I didn’t get out until yesterday. 20miles and no issues besides finding a couple holes opening in the ice.
As a Canadian who's only built things with snowmobile engines, I have been waiting for this since I found your channel
Was a water well driller in Pa. 30 years. Got to dress for it
I feel your pain. And I seem to work on more when’s it’s cold in Rockingham County 🤣
I'm definitely enjoying the new 'every week' videos and the almost hour long video! Great vid guys -
I was missing your 2 stroke videos! These machines are incredible pieces of the 70's. Amazing!!!!
Loved this episode with Junkyard Digs always fun when you get together.
2
Stroke mayhem! Can’t wait to
See what’s in store!
I loved it. It was fun watching 2 southern guys getting their real first taste of winter fun. Glad you guys had fun.
Fantastic video. It's refreshing to see a video from you guys that's almost an hour long. I kept expecting it to end but it just kept going and it was fantastic.
You Gotta Love that 440 Whip! They are really solid sleds! Wrong Carb and all lol. Midwest weather isn't for the faint of heart! JunkYard Digs and Cars & Camera's, you all did a great job and had a little fun!! I didn't even throw my shoe at the computer once!! #PROGRESS #2STROKESRULE
I’m so proud of you guys braving the cold! We bought a snowmobile this winter and have had 4.5 months of awesome riding - snow is still falling today 😂
I had a feeling you was holding back. This looks like it's going to be an epic mess or a triumph, you know we'll love it either way 😆
Very, very, very true vintage snowmobile experience. I never had it that bad, but it was always a struggle. Maybe that's why people like em. The good part is so good after the work people forget the strife.
Congratulations on your first Iowa winter experience! That's my life baby, Iowa boy reporting!
I found an old TXL 340 liquid cooled racing sled in my girlfrieds grandfather's barn under a bunch of stuff, one of the track wheels he made out of wood...lol....I fixed and restored it. It was surprisingly fast...made a custom windshield by heating up plexiglass and shaping it. Worked super well and looked stock! Fun!
15:33 fair enough 😂
Your Collab‘s with Junkard Digs are always awesome to watch!
Nice to see you guys finally have a snowmobile on the channel. I grew up with old late 70s snowmobiles
Fantastic episode. Outside your comfort zone, bonded with a set of new friends, fun, laugh, positive negative results...all ending in a great video to watch... Thanks DVD:)
This video was so much fun to watch with the other guys!
Loved the extended content. Colliding worlds seeing all these different youtubers in one shot.
That snow mobile paddock stand mover thing was just too cool.
I already watched junkyard digs video but I'm still gonna watch this!! Absolutely love this channel!!
This was totally different from your usual and I loved it. You two had a blast with the vintage snowmobiles and am looking forward to next years trip to snow country.
Oh, yes! I played the trumpet (and other brass instruments) in the band. That oil to lubricate the valves....a very unique smell.
Why did the episode have to end? I was having so much fun. A friend of my dad’s took his snowmobile to Daytona Florida for bike week. It was a mid 70s too. He was on the front page of the Daytona newspaper running it up and down the beach. It was crazy.
Oh my God! An hour long Carsandcameras video?! It's a miracle!
John is the kid of the group lol Isaac is the Dad and Digs is the cool uncle 🤣
Very cool John great content and production! You guys have came a long way from the beginning!! 🤜🤛
dad had the blue 400 Scorpion whip & i've had several arctic cat panthers 5000's like your 76'. that seat cover is worth a bunch, impossible to find not completely rotted out. on the whip, those rockwell jlo's fan really whines. in the winter in the woods you can identify one a mile away from the sound of the cooling induction. keep your snowsuit away from the right vent otherwise she'll overheat, lol. but being a michigander, i realize kevin is a yankee & knows his sleds but i enjoy watching you guys figure out sled engines for your builds & now actual sleds. something i grew up with & being almost 60 it's a pleasure to watch you southern men tackle the unknown. big fan big fun-MOOSE OUT
Lol,now you know what all of us in the northeast have to deal with 😂
Snowmobiles are a blast when you have a good one!!!
Oh I am HERE for this!! This is popcorn and beer worthy!
My family got into snowmobiling back around the time those sleds came out, when I was around 5 years old. Our first two sleds were Scorpions and then we had some John Deere ones, before becoming a Yamaha family. I never knew they had electric start way back then. Pull starting one a snowmobile is hard when they won't fire right up. At altitude, in the mountains, it will about give you a heart attack. Thank God for electric start!
Glad ya had fun! All those sleds were new when I was a kid/teenager, lol! Always wanted to take a Raider 440 (bit bigger & longer than Kevins) & swap in a motorcycle engine with a slap shifter... Ran an Evenrude 650 wankel (3 rotor) for a couple of drag seasons... Back when we got 100 days straight of snow, instead of the mud melt this year in W. Mich...
Thanks for the grins, sure hope ya can do these kinda runs, again... Thanx !
The trumpet oil comment hit too close to home. Brought back unknown memories.
Awesome episode, thank you guys! You reminded me of the the hours I spent pulling the starter handle on my old sled.....so glad I sold it...
That straight on shot of Ike in the matching helmet @44:35 sent me back in time. Right to the 70's.
That snowmobile trailer sure had its use when it came to picking up rocks out in the field!!
Dang i just saw this one AFTER the $500 race off. This is funny stuff. I'm glad you guys get along and create double tuber content.
For some reason this didnt come up on my feed…..I hate RUclipss problems, this is a freaking 51 minute video from heaven!!!!
After enjoying Kevin's Video last week, I have been nervously waiting for the "Car's and Camera's Experience"!
Thanks for sharing y'all's adventures!!!
Whoa! It's that RUclips guy!
WOW bud it looks like you John, Pole barn, and Kevin all had a blast. I'm glad you at least got to ride. Keep up the great work
I love it when junkyard digs hides the O'Reilly break clean can... deep in side even he knows it's wrong hahahahah
That snow has reached England. It's been trying to snow all afternoon, now it's gentle and starting to settle. To put into perspective, we have the same climate as Houston, TX and have had an average of
I live in Dorset and woke to a 1" carpet of white slush this morning........ I'll not be rushing out to buy a snowmobile just yet.
Nothing in Southwest Scotland..
LOL.and Wow.In 20 minutes a 1/2" snow fell,and another 6" in 6 hours here in Michigan,and 40 degree the next couple days.We 'may' get another 3-6" tomorrow.That's not even a full week.I'm glad we don't get your rain though.
Good job guys....glad to see your learning about winter sports.....BTW....when buying a snowmobile the very first thing you check is the TRACK....because the cost of a new track is more than the whole machine...if you buy a used track....it's prolly as old as the original and going to give out as well....just sayin from Wisconsin....thanks for sharing this with us 😀
the intro to this video is pure gold i love it
My TXL I restored had the radiators under the floor boards and it had twin 38mm mikuni carbs...huge for such a small engine...
Almost an hour long video!! Heck yeah.
Ike laughs at Kevin for being in band and then hit us with this 11:52 , I'm hysterical
Cool! Love the long episode! It's like an awesome movie!
51 minutes?! I'm in heaven 🙌🏻
This was awesome please give those sleds some love!!
something to remember with 2 strokes is how important the crank seals are. they go out pretty easily if the engine has been sitting for a good bit.
I had the very same 440 whip. It was awesome for what it was! Great video
There is a Raider in the background! I used to drive around one of those. Real fun when one hits an ice patch.
I watched Junkyard's vid first, when it uploaded, and I find it interesting that it was brought up that the pull start was too hard. First challenge, PULL STARTS! 🤣🤣🤣
Best ep of this channel in years..
Wonder who we've truly got to thank for that? .. xD
Yup at least you weren't 30 miles out, sleds. Awesome vid.
I don't care if you guys upload a single vid a month from now on but man, this was epic!! Enjoyed every second
I appreciate the effort guys but I couldn’t get into this episode but I still love the effort
I just bought a 85 Yamaha Enticer 340 for $150 bucks and got it running on my channel…lol. All it needed was a new ignition switch and a good carb cleaning and it fired right up with some fresh gas. Unfortunately winter here in Pa has been just cold with no snow so the only time I got to ride it was what I rode it In the one video of it running…lol. I’m thinking I’m going to pull the motor and plant it in something else cause we just don’t get the snow for good snowmobiling anymore.
Digging the new longer format.
That is incredible! I want to get a snowmobile now, and I’m in Florida!
Yeah those old dogs were a treat even back in the day when they were a lot closer to new. Work on them three hours and ride them a half an hour. Ahhh they weren’t all that bad. Usually the more you run them the better they run. Great content and video. 👍👍
Just imagine a 2-stroke 2 cylinder snowmobile motor mounted on a dragster
Can we please have the blazing trails hoody back I wear mine EVERY single day and its starting to look pretty rough and I don't know how I will live without it. Also any video with junkyard digs is always gonna be a funny one
Old snowmobiles are awesome, just like old cars & trucks they have a lot of character to them. Back when there were tons of offerings to choose from because the sport was still fairly new. I never got to ride it but my father still had his old 72 Sno-Jet Super Jet when I was a kid. It was always sitting on a pallet under the lean-to portion of his shed before he poured a concrete pad and closed it in. By that time he junked the sled because it needed a lot of work and he didn't want to deal with it.
Sometimes the minute particles, left behind after sanding or filing the points, can cause problems. I use strips cut from un coated business cards to clean them after. Brake cleaner works great right before running the business card strips between the point contacts. I guarantee you'll see debris left on the strips. That crap fries between the contacts and can cause pitting and premature failure.
Awesome episode guys. Absolutely loved the vintage snowmobiles.
Makes me miss my old Rupp 440 I had as a kid in Iowa.
Either you'll restore them fully or get the engines for use in Gokarts and maybe fully cars, right?
Sick puppy 4x4 on that tool box in the back ground. Was an awesome youtube Channel
Loved this complete, super sized episode! Really cool sleds!
Love the vintage snowmobiles.
Really enjoyed this longer video, very fun watch!
Good evening from Cornwall England guys.you are all loved in our house.👍👍
Fun watching the challenge.
Its a good video when I see a Junkyard Digs collab!
"I have a trumpet, too." That made me crack up. I played woodwinds because I couldn't stand the smell of brass and valve oil.
Brought me right back to 6th grade with that 4th hand trumpet talk. I can smell it now...
Awesome video, y'all! Love seein' y'all do stuff with Kevin - he's where I originally heard about C&C 😁
As a fellow Carolinian though, I think I'm gonna stick with my jetski 😂
Great video C&C! Loved watching you all working on those sleds
A suggestion to you guys for those snowmobiles since they've been setting so long. I recommend investing in some sta bil fuel treatment fuel stabilizer for the fuel.& It helps block out the moisture content that enters inside from the outside air pressure.& Changes of outside temperatures to.
Brings back memories, I can hear my Dad yelling " Give it a shot of old panther!" or "Choke it Luigi ! choke it."
51 minutes?! I’m liking this new schedule.
John constantly complaining while getting a great deal from a friend! Damn dude! Be grateful!
That 300 Enticer brings me back. My 1st sled!
Talking about taking me back to when I was a kid they were so much fun great show
What a cool machine ..back to the future
I grew up in WI and had a blue scorpion whip as my first sled. Similar problems, brings back memories! Wonder if my uncle still has it. Now I live in TN.
Love them old scorpions they were actually fast for their day some of them are super tippy like I think it was the stingers that were real tippy if memory serves me fun old beaters to bomb around on though.
“Where..is..the corn..at?”
“We can’t tell YOU”
Just started and it’s already solid!
I love the long adventure episodes!
Snowmobiles. A love/hate relationship for sure.
I live in Michigan, have my whole life, and hate Midwest winters…
Kevin's Johnson has a carburetor??
Well, I guess you learn something new everyday...😂😂
I've had my Johnson my whole life, never noticed a carburetor...
Good to see that Junkyard Digs has a Sick Puppy 4x4 Adventures sticker on his toolbox. Sucks that they're no longer making videos together but Cody has his own channel now called Fence Posts Rusty Goats if you wanna checks that out. 👌
Future revive video on that big Ford in the barn 👀👀👀
Awesome video guys snow sand or mud it's all good oh yeah grass too
youtube has taught me that all the cool people arnt just on the coasts every town has people as cool as these guys maybe on your own street if you take the time to know them
I rode a Panther like that one when I was a kid. It had a pink leopard print seat cover on it. Fun times!
The Whip looks, sounds, and smokes EXACTLY like the one ridden by the Riverbottom Nightmare Band
