True; but if you weren't nature would take it's course and you'd never know. There's also videos like the one from a few years ago, of the mother elephant who basically had to listen while hyenas at her baby while the elephant and calf were stuck in a mud pool and the mother died the next day as rangers were trying to save her
I am afraid your reasoning of tourists exploitation, riding, forcing baby elephants to paint and live in captivity, taken away from wild only hurts these animals and promote extinction. This is what the nature intended without human interference.
She is quite capable of protecting her baby, especially elephants. When human begins to interfere, cruelty and exploitation of these creatures are widespread in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand.... These are done by so called elephant reserves, orphanages and parks for human amusement.
@@manchula987 I am speaking specifically of tourists in the natural government-run reserves, where the wildlife live naturally. These reserves exist and are protected because of people learning of the plight the animals face from poaching and humans moving onto the land. There is a charge that tourists pay to drive through on designated roads or ride in a safari vehicle, which helps pay for officials, rangers and anti-poaching teams. Human presence also helps discourage the slaughter of elephants, rhinoceros and lions, in particular. Because there are so few animals left, compared to what there used to be, it is worth them being saved if one is observed in trouble. If a baby elephant falls down an abandoned man made well, she is not able to get it out. Numerous babies and mothers have been also saved because they were seen impossibly stuck in heavy mud. I’m surprised you would object to the animals being rescued and prefer they die from starvation and exhaustion. If good, caring human beings hadn’t and weren’t intervening to protect these animals, they would eventually become extinct.

If only we could protect their exploitation in many many countries who claim to be animal protection reserves and orphanages. These places promote cruelty to animals by chaining them so that the tourists cannot see, separate babies from their loving mothers and parade them in chains around the villages in places like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia and so on. These animals have been exploited for centuries and they need our voice to stop elephant rides and tour companies promoting rides, painting and showering with elephants, do harm these intelligent animals. Educating friends and family to avoid reserves and orphanages will starve those exploiters
The mom is teaching her baby. Allowing the baby to figure it out. She steps in to assist, but she let's the baby figure it out. The baby will remember this lesson for life...

It doesnt look like saved him! Its like she's teaching him. Shes trying to make him climb out himself....she gives him a chance to. When he doesn't she goes to help him. Its important she allows him to try for himself because he will encounter savages out there...the sooner he learn the better.

"Thin".... that might seem so due to the compressed video image , where the animals look somewhat elongated....
i think when you stretch the video image to normal size ,the elephants would look different....
most are boney. they eat leaves.... so they have to consume alot. they like mud because it adds protection from flea bites
like sea cows they have to constantly eat.

I don't understand why an Indian elephant can wrap its trunk around a heavy log and lift it but in the wild it never occurs to them to simply pick up the baby with their trunk to rescue it. It's so frustrating to watch them when the solution is so simple.
