Hey Joanne !!! As always great content and information. All boards should be required to have continuing education through the NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) and yes there is a chapter in Canada. If you are an American nonprofit you can use the IRS Stay-Exempt tool to take their FREE exam and get the certificate at the end and yes Canadian Revenue recognizes the IRS Stay-Exempt certificate. Also, board members do NOT get job descriptions they are NOT employees. They get role or duty assignments, you can NOT fire or hire directors they have to be appointed. Every director in their binder should have a copy of their Director's Appointment Letter along with a sheet explaining their duty or committee assignments. Every director also should have in their pledge form a commitment to continuing education credits at least 2 credits in 24 months. Again 2 thumbs up for the video.
@@CauseSpecialist American nonprofits do NOT need to apply for exemption in Canada pursuant to an IRS Canadian agreement. However, the exemption agreement is limited. You also forgot to talk about Directors and Officers insurance.
Once again your timing is perfect. we are building our binder now but are worried about how to present it to the older members who think they already know everything
