🥚 How I accidently killed 2 fish I’ve been keeping guppies for over a decade and they are one of the easiest fish to care for! Deaths are pretty rare, but I recently started noticing baby fish dying in my tank which is weird because there really should be a 100% survival rate since they’re living in luxury. Of course, there’s going to be some fish that die simply due to natural causes, but I noticed something different about these dead babies. Their bellies were bursted and after looking closer I realized it was due to them ingesting the shells of the BBS I have been feeding them. I never had this problem before but it needs to be solved so I made a new brine shrimp net with new net sizes and this new tool strains out the BBS much better than my last one ☻ Next fish restock May 14 (10 am PST) at FishPortals.com! :)
You should make it multi stages so that it catches a ton even if you loose some it's better then risking killing them! Plus with multiple stages you could better remove all problematic parts!

Tbh, I’m not surprised she’s finding these. I have fish and if I notice a death, I might literally dissect it just to make sure it’s not contagious. Gross, but one death in fish might mean you need to toss your entire tank if you let it get worse, and that can mean 1,000$+ down the drain depending on how large your tank is.

I found a channel on RUclips that claims to be a "fish expert" who was telling his followers to feed BBS EGGS (not hatched BBS) straight out of the packet, to their fry and adult fish. 🤦♀️ He insisted it was excellent nutritional food for fry. Fortunately, some commenters took him to task about his very grave error. This video is a great example of what eggs and shells can do to fry. Crazy, when people tell themselves they are experts ion things they clearly aren't and spread bad info.

I use another method. Brine shrimp eggs float but brine shrimp swim. They are attracted to light. So I turn off all lights in room and shine a small light at the side of tank. Shrimp gather there and I use a turkey baster to suck them all up.

It's so random, but as soon as you mentioned the guppies, I felt an overwhelming combination of emotions that consisted of nostalgia, happiness, joy, sadness, excitement, loss, and wonder!🤯 This is because all of these memories that came flooding back to the surface were from when me and my Grampa (the most wonderful, kind, honorable, gentle, joyful, selfless, strong, trustworthy, welcoming, and loving family man, and just straight-up human being) used to breed guppies together!! At first, it was just a hobby for him to do, to stay sharp and busy, after retirement. Then, once I showed an interest, it became something for the two of us to do together. We hit some definite learning curves in the process, making it more and more difficult for us to sustain😢 But man, I bet we would've "killed it" if RUclips was aroundin the mid 90s! We could've found people like you who share your knowledge and experience with whoever else needs it! When I had accidental guppy fry, I raised them on egg yolks, algae wafers, and crushed flakes. Most of them lived, so I consider it a success.

Update my guppy’s had baby’s and the parents sadly passed away due to jumping out the tank and their baby’s are growing up so fast
