I used to work with different chemicals for over 10 years in lab work, the foam you’re using (even when cured and hardened) still releases small amount of chemicals/gases into your fish’s water. I strongly advise changing their tank as it can become extremely toxic
The stuff she’s using is made for fish tanks so I assume it would be ok!
And they’re already deformed 😂
I was wondering about that . . . .
@@nicolec5841 I looked it up and it doesn't specifically say fish tanks. It says this: GREAT STUFF Pond & Stone Filler, Sealer and Adhesive is a ready-to-use, closed-cell polyurethane foam that bonds to porous and nonporous rocks or stones without the use of mortar. Specifically designed to blend in and withstand moist conditions, GREAT STUFF Pond & Stone can be used on a variety of projects such as retaining walls, water features and landscaping.
Assumptions that lead to deformities? Same with humans. All that plastic breaks down to Dioxin which causes birthdefects. Watch "Trashed" documentary narrated by Jeremy Irons. @@nicolec5841

Absolutely no hate (but with sincere concern), I’m a scientist that works in a lab and deals with a lot of medical device extracts. All materials have chemicals that leech out when submerged in water or oil after a certain amount of time. We determine whether these extracts are toxic/mutagenic. I highly recommend being cautious when it comes to deciding what to put in your fish tank. For instance, I’ve never tested that “black foam” before but it doesn’t seem like something that is meant to be submerged in a fish tank, for fish to live in. I know you want what’s best for your fishies and it definitely was a cool idea, but you may want to consider that.
Edit: I now see that it’s a product purposely meant for fish tanks, etc. It’s my bad for not catching that. It's still good to keep in mind though that literally everything releases an extract of some sort- even things like metals, wood, plastic, etc. I see so many things that we test that turn out to be mutagenic/toxic and yet are still available to the public and marketed as "safe". Having worked with plenty of chemicals and test substances, this was the first thing that came to mind. I found the MSDS sheet for the product where you can see/research each individual ingredient (important for use in the laboratory as well as for the consumer). These types of things usually contain toxins and I was not surprised to find some. Just something to keep in mind is all.
I believe they are fish safe as they are specifically for tanks, ponds, etc. type. Have seen my dad used it and there were no problems. Kinda curious if it really is bad though as I see nothing through the net on my end as well hehehe
That was my first thought when she pulled out the black foam lol
@@Becizzmine too
Same thoughts. No wonder the babies are deformed. Why use chemicals inside tank. I won't even use soap to clean tanks & tank items.
@jillcaryltamang654 it's actually for filling cracks in homes & other things, not made for water or tanks specifically.

Have you tried adding more genetics to your tank? Deformities usually mean too much inbreeding every time I start to notice deformed babies I add 3-5 new guppies and that usually solves the problem for a while
She adds new fish quite often
@@VipesVonHarloteven so, a change of supplier may help
@@VipesVonHarlotif she’s getting them from the same place that doesn’t mean anything
Just curious… how often are they having babies?
She gets more views from having deformed guppies so she purposely keeps breeding them. Hence why she is mixing male and female deformed guppies together, so they can breed amd have even worse deformed babies.
This is what makes this girl happy, some professional may take this as a pretty strong sign of a menta! imbalance...
Am I the only one who thinks the expanding foam is toxic to the fish so this is more like a funeral home rather than a sanctuary?
I know that isn’t the creators intent, so don’t come for me I’m not accusing her of animal cruelty.
Not the only one but apparently that stuff is made for fish habitat.
Hopefully, the black expanding foam isn't toxic to the fish.
It’s pond foam! It won’t breakdown and Leech
It's insanely toxic, no such thing as safe foam. Just because it's marketed as 'pond foam' doesn't mean that it's safe. All foams cause cancers, birth defects, and other diseases.
After looking into the components of the foam stuff it seems a lot of them actually aren’t fish-safe so if that gets damaged in anyway those fish will slowly be poisoned end up passing 😅
The one she's using is a fish friendly foam I've looked into getting it before, but I'm sure any old foam could be toxic since they do market that one as non toxic for your fish lol
Poor water condition's, lack of minerals while guppys are expecting and too much inbreeding can cause deformity in your fish.
I suspect she’s using toxic props too. ☠️
Why would you think she is using toxic props? She takes a lot of care of these fish so that doesn’t make sense at all.

From my perspective, saving lives that were meant to end by natural causes can be considered just as cruel. Deformations occur naturally, and parents will eat any offspring born with them. Since You can't be certain that these deformities won't cause issues with eating, breathing or digestion for the fish, isn't it just as plausible you're causing them more pain by forcing them to live with their deformities?
There's a reason animals kill/eat their deformed offspring in the wild and people don't interfere with it.
I dont want to be a negative nancy either but keeping any super deformed babies alive can be super painful for them especially if they have more internal issues from a spine deformity or a organ issue
Ikr, this video is so disappointing coming from the same person who made a video talking about why humane euthanasia of deformed guppies is necessary and important, definitely not just something you stop doing because you don't feel like it anymore.

You shouldn't put fish in bowls like that. The curved glass makes the outside world look deformed to the fish, stressing them out. I advise you to get rid of this bowl and replace it with a box shaped aquarium instead ❤
She knows. Likely, this will be for blind guppies. She’s addressed this before

Isnt being deformed harmful and painful to the fish?
@@diughbigblacYep, not only that but now the bad genetics are going to be bred together
@@diughbigblacsometimes if it’s extreme. Some fish can be mildly deformed and live happily. Like how some people can still live happily with disability like arthritis. Not saying it’s the same tho
@@diughbigblac Also living in a rounded tank can cause blindness, confusion, and disorientation, but since she never actually talks about true fish care outside of her main setup then who cares, right?
@@amanitaaldaine If the tank is large enough, it won't be as distorted and could be fine. Especially now that they are really small in won't effect them as much.
Someone correct me if Im wrong. No hate intended. But I thought that fish bowls were very disorienting to the fish and unhealthy?
For what i search, not really, they require more care tho, because of things like "less surface area" and "limited placement of equiment", but it's possible to successfully keep fish in them, "just needs to be sure to have sufficient oxygenation"
Anyway, i am no expert, this is just what i found
Yes you're right, ex-fish shop employee here, many years ago all round bowls were recalled from fish stores where I live because they're ab*sive. The round bowl reflects the fish's image with that "fish eye" effect making them constantly think they're being chased by a larger fish. It's horrible!!!
It can be pretty bad for fish from what I understand.
Besides what was already commented here, it can also stunt the growth of a fish depending on how big they get, for example: Goldfish
They get pretty big, but being kept in small fish bowls stunts their growth
I don’t know, my goldfish lived to almost 20 (yes same fish, he was missing scales so I know he wasn’t replaced by my parents) in a small goldfish bowl. We cleaned the bowl monthly and used distilled water.
It’s disorienting for seeing fish…but luckily they can’t see so they don’t get disoriented. :D
I see a lot of people saying the foam is toxic it is not she’s using one that’s safe for fish. And about the fish bowl if its the right diameters it should mostly be fine but a lot of the deformed babies won’t be able to see or even be able to live long even if it has a good home. Hope this helps.
So happy you chose to do this! 😊
wont they suffer just being alive though?
I don't really think so. I'm pretty sure the deformed babies mainly suffer from being bullied by other fish, so this kind of solves that problem and gives them a chance at a nice life.
@@thatonebonkchoyguyNo.
You don’t know shit.
Many deformed fishes die because the defects make it impossible for them to live. She’s been per-formatively cruel.
No they don’t suffer.
Depends, my family's oldest fish - a catfish by the name of Ginger - has scoliosis yet he's been around for over 10 years, never moved tank since we got him when I was still a toddler.
Legitimate question here- how are you not having a Hapsburg level canon event with your fish inbreeding so much?
And if the deformed ones start breeding what then
Fish genetics are different than humans. Inbreeding isn't a problem for them
@@VipesVonHarlot unfortunately that is just not true. Inbreeding is an issue for fish as well, as demonstrated by the birth of so many malformed offspring. While fish are more tolerant of inbreeding than mammals they absolutely do suffer ill effects when not managed properly.
Guppy's breed quickly so inbreeding is pretty much unavoidable

You are such an awesome person, how's the store going?
great i’m posting an update soon! i hope to open this year
That's amazing, I know you'll do great
I found myself worrying that the black foam might leech chemicals myself, and also, after a disaster my sister’s aquarium experienced at the hands of her well-meaning life partner, I learned that just any old water won’t do. The temperature and purity of the water, how saline it is or isn’t, even how the bowl was washed, all matters. I had no idea! So find out from an exotic fish expert at a shop that specializes in them.
Omg, how sweet is this! Love the sanctuary 🐡🐟🐠♥️❤️💖🩷
(EDIT!!!! So people have told me the foam doesn’t leech into the water, so please do your own independent research to reach your own conclusions. The foam is made of polyurethane, which is a type of plastic used in kitchen sponges. Some articles and research papers state Polyurethane leeches into water, so I’m not sure where people are getting the idea that it’s safe. My other points still stand though, especially about the uncycled and non-filtering fish bowl!).
Expanding foam doesn’t sound very eco friendly or animal friendly especially to fish. Plastic is known to leech harmful chemicals over time. Being submerged in water doesn’t help slow that down either. Expanding foam definitely doesn’t sound like it’s made to be under water and not leech. You should stop putting plastic products in your water for your fish…
It’s about as harmful as you sitting on a plastic chair with shorts on
There is expanding foam made specifically for ponds, aquariums, and other aquatic environments. It's meant to be safe for fish; they will be completely fine (assuming she's using the correct product, that is.) We appreciate your concern and no offense, but I recommend you do your research next time before criticizing others.

Cute. Tank also turned out to look better than I thought it would
Most of those deforms will outlive your normal guppies.
I made a tank for my deformed males, started with 4 about 3 years ago and now got 2 left but the other 2 only died a few months ago.
The other 50 odd healthy males all died within a year.
I think it’s because the deforms are left to do their own thing in peace where a tank full of healthy guppies is constant excitement.
I think the constant excitement is what lowers the life expectancy of the guppy.
You need to separate the males and females so you dont keep purposely breeding deformed guppies.
In fact there is nothing worse that you could do than putting in male and female deformed guppies together, im pretty sure i don't need to explain what will happen next...

How is it ethical to breed deformed fish when they would literally be food in nature
It's not. Any ethical breeder would not continue breeding fish that are having deformities. Inbreeding and poor nutrition lead to deformities. I kind of hate her channel and how everyone says how she takes great care of her fish. No idea why her videos keep popping up in my feed when I keep removing them. I like people that actually know how to take care of fish and care about them not the influencers just trying to get views.

That is not safe, using the foam. Anything submerged should be covered in silicone before water is added to prevent leaching.
Are there specific precautions and cleaning measures to keep in mind when using expanding foam in a tank?
I don’t know much about expanding foam to begin with, let alone when adding fish (as far as toxicity, how it “seals” when set, etc).
This is the coolest idea and I’d love to try it.
Once the foam sets it’s completely safe for the fish. Expanding foam is extremely common to use when setting up Aquascapes or terrariums. It’s most commonly used to hold a hard scape of rocks and branches together but it can also be carved to look like rocks as well. It’s not usually as noticeable as how she used it here. But still a safe and easy material to use.
It’s maintenance is pretty straightforward. It’s not much different then having wood or rocks.
Make sure the foam you use is meant specifically for use in aquariums, not the kind you get in a hardware store
Years back I always had a fish tank. I loved up 3 sizes finally to a large tank. From the very beginning I always loved the deformed fish. The store I visited would always let me buy them for $1 each. They enjoyed life like the others without issues. It was great❤❤❤

I believe it’s called a walstad aquarium method, it’s when there are no filters because of the plants inside the tank . The plants use the waste as a natural fertilizer. And if you look at the bottle it says POND expanding foam, it’s for deformed fish which I’m assuming means blind so they won’t be bothered by the bowl, but the other fish I’m not really sure, but I hope this comment clears up most issues!
SANCTUARY?! are u freaking kidding 😂😂😂 ROUND BOWL IS WORST YOU CAN DO TO FISH. WHERE IS WATER FILTER?! you need fucking education before keeping those poor fish
If the tank is big enough, the shape is not a problem, it is quasi a nano tank and there are definitely filterless aquariums, you just have to find a balance between fish and plants, but this is more of a professional level... I'm more worried about the foam in the water
