I think it's great that Poseidon has made the rear drop conversion. As for the front fork. Rodeo actually makes a fork that can convert from 100x15 to 100x12. I'm sure you remember when Mtn hub sets were 142x12 rear and 100x15 front. I was truly inspired when I found out about the Rodeo fork and will be ordering one for my next gravel bike build.
My "X" conversion kit is on back order. Anxiously awaiting it. Installed a new set of Hunt 700C on my Redwood and love the way it now handles the dirt trails and roads. A set of 700C for the Redwood is well worth it.
Can you use 27.5 inch wheels to the X Ambition? If so, what size tires allow it to match the 700c with 40mm tires combo? (And is there clearance for such a combo?)
If an Allen bolt uses a 3mm Allen wrench, it’s not a “3 mm bolt”. Bolt sizes are specified by the diameter of the thread. The example is probably an “M4” bolt - if it’s a flat head socket cap screw. Caliper mounting bolts are M6 or 6 mm thread diameter. And yes, it often uses a 5 mm Allen wrench. An M5 socket head cap screw uses a 5 mm Allen wrench. An M5 button head cap screw uses a 3 mm Allen Wrench. “M5” meaning AFAIK “Metric 5 mm thread diameter”.
I’m a beginner getting into all road / gravel riding so don’t roast me too hard. And I know Poseidon bikes are VERY feature-rich for their price. That’s why I’m here. But I can’t understand why they would supply a carbon fork with a QD that you can’t convert to thru axel without tossing it out and getting a complete new one. It’d be cool if they came out with a Poseidon X2 with thru axel, tubeless ready wheels, micro shift sword groupset, and hydraulic brakes. If they could do this and sell it under $1,2k it would beat everything on the market.
Just found you on you tube. Great content. I have a question, I am trying to get my hands on new rear dropouts to upgrade my hyper carbon X 29er. It comes with QR dropouts. Hyper makes thru axle dropouts for it, but I can not get them to respond to me via email, calls,.etc. very frustrating however, the Poseidon dropouts look amazingly similar. Any chance you know if they are compatible? I know it’s random, and I apologize. I am at the point where I am about to go to a machinist to fab a set for me. Lol I swear I am not lazy, I am at my wits end, I can’t find compatible dropouts or info for my bike anywhere.
Just out of interest: Does someone know if these dropouts have a specific designation? I noticed, my Bike-Components Originals Podsol hardtail uses the same through axle dropouts. Great video btw.👍
Congratulations on finding a podsol. I was monitoring their site for 1 year but they never had anything in stock. Did you ever find your conversion kit?
I hate quick release..im shopping for a bike fork and all im seeing quick release forks..in my opinion thru axle is safer and more secure..they say it save time when you a flat..but last time i checked most flats is on the rear wheel not the front..
I’d ask why is QR even an option to start with. these should not exist on new bikes any more. the added cost of manufacturing axle compatible frames isn’t that high but bike industry still uses QRs for questionable price differentiation. I guess the cost of manufacturing a frame with exchangeable dropouts could even exceed the cost of just making it through-axle.
I am actually surprised to see QR with flatmount brake interface on a new bike! I was looking for a fork like this to be able to still use my dynamo hub on my daily commuter bike... Quiet hard to find one lightweight (surly does one for instance)
Poesidone claims it keeps the cost down. Only explanation. BTW, I have the Redwood Dropbar. It's a great bike for what I do. Mixed terrain on-off road bikepacking routes. It's a true mt-gravel bike. A bit heavy but a defenite workhorse.
I hate to be stickler for safety and details, although aside from the mask which personally I utilize and applaud your use, however It would be prudent to wear disposable gloves on a job such as this just my personal preference and suggestion…

Does the frame have a 135mm qr hub spacing at the back and the kit converts it to 142mm thru axle?

Excellent job sir 👍
Do you have quick release carbon fork? I want to upgrade my marin four corners

Hi there.
Can I do this also with a Trek Xcaliber 9?

yea honestly they should just sell a through axle version for 150 to 200 more then the QR version

Wish I could help you. You could call Poseidon and see if they’ll send you a set to try

It’s possible it’s an off the shelf dropout. Can’t say for sure

👍 good looking out.
How about putting painters tape around the fork where it will be cut to catch some of the carbon fiber fibers?
