Hi guys, so I just want to say this video was filmed a number of years ago and since then I have got a tattoo apprentice job and am working professionally in a shop giving people tattoos at a much higher standard. This video was filmed when I didn't have as much knowledge on safety/technique. I would really recommend people to take this process more seriously. I'd suggest reading some of the comments and taking on board what people have suggested.
At the time I was doing a lot of my own tattoos at home and didn't intent the video to be a step by step guide (because what worked for me might not for everyone) but more to show you HOW I did my tattoos. anyone wanting to do this at home themselves is responsible for their own health and safety and should always do as much research before hand as possible! Also keep in mind not everyones body will react the same way to inks.

If you put down a thin layer of Vaseline or hustle butter before you poke, it will keep the ink from pooling and you will be able to see what you're doing much better.
ty ty!!
Does it have to be not scented
@@summerrain2171 It would be preferable in case of allergies or irritation
@Gannon Edgar shut up
@Gannon Edgar such a lovely friend.
please don't put the ink back into the bottle....
you are totally right and I noticed that after, don't worry I won't be using that ink on anyone else
@@KariMay_ you were talking about bloodborne pathogens 💀
@@gothangel5654 as I said in the vid, I'm not a professional and ppl needed to do their own reserch
@@KariMay_ don't use it again on your self the ink is now dirty and your blood will cause bacteria to form in the ink which could give you an infection throw the bottle out and get a new one. never put ink back in the bottle even if you just using it for your self.

I’m not certain but I think having a deeper well of ink would ensure you don’t touch the needle tip to the bottom of the pot, which blunts it.
I simply bought some needles and some Kuro Sami ink and I think I have some pretty clean looking ones. Aftercare is KEY. Moisturize it constantly and DO NOT PICK THE SCABS if it does dry out. Don’t over stress it and i promise you’ll like what you come out with. And remember, one day when everyone from our generation is adults and has kids, were all gonna have some stupid tattoos we got as dumb teenagers :))
Don't over moisturize its better to leave it alone and only apply moisturizer to it of its extremely uncomfortable and cracking.. and a very thin layer at that!
Did my first 2 yesterday and I'm in love
I never moisturise till the scabs fall out, dry healing is the best for me
Moisturizing every time it gets dry is myth lol. You want it to scab over and heal fam that way less ink escapes from your body
OMG don't touch the bottom of the needle to any hard surface! Every time you do, the needle dulls. You should also use fresh ink in a small pot each time you do a new tattoo.
thanks for letting me know x

thank you! I like them too✨
Needles should NEVER just be thrown away. They should disposed of in an appropriate sharps container. This can vary depending on where you live, so please look up your local regulations on disposal of sharps.
i usually just sand down or break off the sharp end
@@illiteratebastard7421 And then what do you do with the part you broke off? It's not the fact that it's sharp that's the problem, though that is a concern too, it's that it potentially has biological waste or medications on it that could seriously harm someone or get them sick.
@@AirashiiTiayou oh i just meant in general, not after a tattoo. just like a needle that was used for sewing
@@illiteratebastard7421 Oh, well, they still count as sharps. Also, what do you then do with the broken off tips that are still sharp?? They may not be a biological hazard, but there is a reason that there is regulation on disposal of sharps like that (depending on the area).
Who cares
Omg! Did you just pour the leftover ink back into the bottle and used the bottle again?! This is SOOOO DANGEROUS!!! O.0
Hey, you might already realise but if not when using trancferpaper you can just draw over the same side you traced the drawing over with pen when getting the stensil on the paper, that way you it won't be backwards and will be the way you originally drew it
Hadnt realised that thanks!
2:29 that's probably just me but my mindeset is like if there's a tattoo that doesn't look good I just really don't care because I've made it and I would be proud of that regardless the result.
I also think that some tattoos that look like shit (on purpose or not) are actually funny, not in a bad of course
Yeh sure, everyone is different its such a personal choice
@@KariMay_ true
Also it's best to fill your container of ink all the way full so you don't risk touching the bottom of the plastic with your needle tip.
Your ink is no longer sterile. It’s your own blood, but can still cause infection!
It's been 3 years since you posted this video, so I'm not sure if it's still relevant, but you can use physio tape to spread the skin. Works really well :)
disposable ink wells are super low cost, as are boxes of nitrile gloves, and easily available from reputable online tattoo supply stores... while you're there... lap cloths provide a sterile surface with some absorption, they go underneath all of your equipment, on the table... dettol is nasty stuff, super harsh... 70% alcohol wipes are a better alternative.
Gloves, please use gloves
I don't care if you have clean hands, there Will most likely always be dirt under the nails or the chance that you might have missed a spot
Hi! Gloves are not sterile unless they're surgical gloves. So gloves protect you from whoevers body fluids you're coming in contact with. Like she said she wears gloves when she tattoos someone else, which is the correct way since gloves protect YOU not the person being tattooed. Proper hand hygiene and disinfectant is enough when you're tattooing yourself. Hope that cleared things up! :) (I'm a nurse)
hi, proper hand hygiene and disinfectant is not enough. even on yourself, without gloves you're risking cross contamination, which could be very harmful. Always wear gloves, even when tattooing yourself(: Plus if you don't wanna do it for the medical reasons, at least use em to avoid getting ink on your hands lol
@@kilala090 i think you should stop being nurse then if you think that is how gloves work. they protect the other person. even if you wash your hands there is still sweat and salt and dirt on your hands. so your telling us doctors only wear gloves to protect them selves hey. that is completely wrong. gloves protect you and the other person. i would not trust you as my nurse.
You only need to use gloves if you tattoo someone else.
@@whodatbitch not true there is bacteria under your nails that can get in there you should always wear gloves each time every time on your self even if you wash your hands there is still bacteria. you are 100% wrong.
I want a tiny tattoo on my pinky knuckle and no shop will do one that small so I've gotta do it myself. This has been very helpful. Thank you
How did it turn out?
@@theresagailgiordano great! My artist working on my sleeve said he's seen pros that can't get the ink to deposit as well. But I spent like 30 minutes on it so that's probably why.

I shoulda watched this before I gave myself a stick and poke with decade old ink and a safety pin - it’s been over a month and it actually looks good but I just really lucky
Man I did mine with a thumb tack and just made sure to sterilize it and used pen ink. I’m really lucky it’s not infected 😭
Dudeeee a thumbtack 😭😭
If you do anymore in the future, coming from a person whose done 23 w/ all different types of needles, I really recommend tattoo needles they make them look sm better when they’re healed and start fading a bit
I did one the other day with BIC pen ink and a pin, didnt sterilize lol, and just sat on the edge of my bed with a math packet underneath my arm while I tattood. It looked ok, was just a small flower, nothing went bad...until I decided I didn't want it so I heated up a spoon with a lighter and attempted to burn it off my skin. Now I have a big scab over it but the stupid tat is still there :(
@@incognito9313 omggg why would you do that😭
@@JTORI4 Lol
The scab flaked off a few days later and the tattoo came with it
Now I just have a scar
Plz dont do your tattoo in a towel, plastic is better and easier to clean. The ink part everybody already talked about. And the wet wipes are not proper to clean tattoos cause of some substances it has, better just paper towels and mineral water+little soap
It's not like a bad critic, just a constructive feedback. And like, your video is also part of the research about stick and poke, so it's important to be aware about those points.
thanks for the advice :) x
I bought a real stick n poke kit over Etsy from the UK, I used to get tattooed by my friend with sketchy ink from the dollar store and a needle but shit looks good and didn't fade i'm still proud of it 😂
Get a tattoo machine it'll blow your mind😝! Alot quicker process! Btw if you place the tracing paper on top of the actual transfer paper rather then behind the ink paper you will have a better result also cut it out after tracing and only the transfer paper not the ink paper and you won't get that outline ink around your stencil when you put it on your skin 😉 I've been tattooing myself for just over a year now (with the machine mind you ) original style machine not the new rotary pen machine just because they look cooler in my opinion lol I've filled my four arm and most of my legs so far started packing colour in and practicing shading (majority of my arm is colour 😊 it is a fun hobby and makes me feel proud when people ask how much it costs for my patch work sleeve and I tell them it's all my own work to watch their faces drop make me feel proud! Your doing a great job so far 👏 👍 👌
What machine do you use? I tried the stick and poke method but I want to get an actual machine and practice on fake skin and stuff
@@flamingapplepie1 its called Dragonhawk tatoo machine 😁👍 Check on Amazon they have some really good starter kits for practice comes with sillicone skin, practice ink(not for use on real skin),various needles and tubes(for practice only) transfor paper,8 machines (2 liners 2 shader and 2 packers) & power supply Awesome for starters! when your ready to work on your skin you'll have to invest in some quality tattoo ink and needles ... i went for Moms tattoo ink which is a very good quality ink... needles and tube can also be bought on Amazon 😊
@@samk3386 oh sweet thank you so much! I screenshotted this comment lots of good info here and yeah def want to do lots of practice first! I don’t want to severely screw up a design on myself beyond repair lol
that ink container looks very clean... 😷
To be fair you did a pretty good job , Ive seen some totally shocking jailhouse tattoos. I will still stick to paying a pro tattooist to do mine though.
Classical rule of sterility, dont leave the sterile stuff on non sterile surfaces, dont touch it with non sterile gloves
This is literally the first time i'm seeing your channel and the first thing I was was the rat cage and I got so exited
Me too!!!
Thanks this is very informative and I'm thinking of getting stick and poke supplies cause I want tattoos but I dont want them to be to much money so yea and if I do it my self I know that the other person won't mess it up and if I mess it up then it was just my stupidity so thanks for your info it really helps
try amazon they are super cheap stuff I recommend the brand One Tattoo World for needles
You are an absolute amazing artist!!
Hey , you’re rlly not supposed to use a towel as they hold a disgusting amount of bacteria even if clean.
do you know, if paper towels hold a smaller risk? like in general, not just tattoo related
@@fluffypuffy7511 yes they are much better than towels :)
Thank you. Great lil video, and it poked me rite in my heart.. hen I was 13, I startet exactly the same. Same storry, except, it was in 1988, and where I live there were no tattoo scene at all. A few people have some writting from army, or prison. But anyway, I love it !! Now, Im 48, I have family, profession, and I LOVE ALL MY OLD TATTOOS!!!! Ps. I have my sleeves done, and few extras, left arm all by myself....omg, I NEED NEW TATTOO !!! XXX Rone Pss. Congrats for great video. I hoe you understand my English =)...Im from Slovenia
What a wonderful story! It's so satisfying to see people happy with their old tattoos and life story.
From experience don't use pen ink for desperate people like me💀
It's not gonna stay it will peel off in a week
I used pen ink when I was thirteen and I'm 32 now and still have the ink showing as if I just did it and I have never touched it again since I did it
You should get yourself a needle holder! It’s so much easier!
ah yes something to cure my boredom until i order a tattoo gun :)
Wtf dude! Do not put used ink back in the ink bottle!! I was all for it until I saw you do that!
I just did my tattoo thanks to your video. I hope It heals well! thank you!
its like the people in these comments have never cut themselves with a knife lmao...or anything for that matter lol.
Had worse pain with papercuts 🤣
Cross contaminated the ink 😳😳
I happy to soon start my stick and poke, your vid was of great help!
Old - but Great thanks - Gloves are cheap as chips and fresh ink are important too - but you obviously wash carefully if you haven't been infected yet - so cool.
everyone says to stretch the skin so it doesn't end up just being dots but it looks like they turned out pretty well
If you put ink after a few pokes the process goes a lot faster
Since the tattoo is on the arm you could use a hair clip, clothes line clip, or something that can pinch and hold on the opposite side to keep the skin taut.
Can someone tell me what kind of pen to use and how to obtain one? I assume that you cannot use a normal pen due to the ink
Amazing thank you so much! Your voice is soothing x
I have a question what supplies do you use? I know they were put in the video but I would like to know what link it is to get to them
I'm doing a reaction video to this. I was a trained professional tattoo artist for 3 years and I'm going to include all the "mishaps" found in this video. Honestly as fun as this might seem there are huge red flags and health violations just from what I've seen.
"im doing a reaction video to this" 🤣 sad times. Man up
Girl you’re telling me everything i need to know. And i thought i was tattooing correctly?!😭😩
How do you know how deep to go with the needle? Like how does one judge it?
It's hard to describe but it will feel like it makes a pop, but you shouldn't be bleeding from it or you've gone too deep!
@@ge0rgiaeb0nyy cool thanks!
Nice Tattoos, greetings from Colombia.
Are you hitting the bottom of the contact container with the tip of your needle? Bc if the needle tip touches, scratches or pokes ANYTHING harder than skin, esp plastic, the tip dulls and or barbs and it is really hard to get the color in the skin after that. I use 10' 03RL (10 is best diameter. The 1203 rl are much thicker) and I never have to do more than 1 go around the tattoo. The color really sticks good.((((but I also use black ink from hobby lobby in the fountain pen section , they have India inks. I use those 😆. They are super black. 🤣
I've been looking for tutorials on how to do this but they never say how deep to go into the skin so where would I go to know how deep to put the Needle in
maybe a dumb question, can you use tape to help spread the skin?
Nothing's pooling. It's going better then perfesanol
i have so many stick and pokes, my asian mom is gonna kill me when she sees my new ones. To be honest sometimes i get so tired when i’m doing one that i quit and then realize i forgot to finish it so some of mine look terrible. It’s a long process though, it took me 3 hours on one i have one my arm
GUYS I STARTED ON A BIG STICK N POKE ON MY ARM AND I PAUSED BECAUSE IT HURT TOO MUCH BUT WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO START AGAIN IT HURT LIKE A B- SO IM PLANNING TO CONTINUE ON IT AGAIN IN A FEW DAYS WHEN IT DOESN’T HURT AS MUCH BUT IDK IF ITS OKAY TO DO THAT DOES ANYONE KNOW??
What kind of deodorant could you use? I ordered everything a while ago but forgot the gel 🤦♀️
gel/roll on x
do you toss the needles when youre done or?
Yes
Did you do the sun/moon tattoo as well?
no that was professionally done x
what do you all mean by “don’t put the ink back”? and, how long does this last?
it contaminates the ink bottle because of the blood on the end of the needle that gets dipped in the pot. Definitely never do that - my mistake
Did you do the sun and moon design that you put the star/sparkles next to?
No that was professional x
Heyy, I would recommend not putting used ink back into the container as it is contaminated. The needle went into your skin and then you went back into the ink. Bacteria can now grow in your ink bottle way faster and give you or someone else you tattoo an infection
I have a question on the thing of never reusing needles
If I'm using for just myself and no one else is it safe to wash and reuse since it's just my blood and stuff?
If you do more then one in a session
Did she just poor the used ink back in the jar?
What size/+shape is the needle?
Damn! You bent the shit out of them needles with the dips. We stick and poke way differently bruh
Oh no why is this like an instruction video?? So many wrong things happening here that is so dangerous for people who have no clue what they are doing. Espetially young teens. Please don't do this like that!
I see that you have a lot of "i'm not responsible" disclaimers but this is very ineffective and people gonna try to do this and it WILL be on your conscience for putting out very ill informed video where you are fine basically because "welp nothing bad happened yet"
what’s wrong with it
Wowww your work is beautiful
huh, wasnt expecting to see a prison tattoo in this
Oh god kids please do more research than this video. I remember being a teen I got my first tat in a basement drunk, we shared a needle. And sanitised worth voldka.
Don't do that.
Buy proper tattoo ink, buy ink caps, use disposable cloths and wear gloves, and dispose of your ink please!!!
Does it hurt more than a normal tattoo
when you see people in the streets with crappy tattoos "videos like this is why"
instead of the transfer paper can i just draw the design on my skin?
Yes
yeh!
Very Nice.
really helpful vid thank u !
I recommend using some tape to stretch the skin a bit.
That's a great idea. Trying to tattoo your arm and stretch the skin to the best it can is hard to do.
Wat type of ink was that
So can you use the same needle on yourself or still no?
best not to x
Can you actually use regular deodorant does it work the same for the transfer?
you can use stick deodorant not spray or roll on x
You’re so pretty girl!
Are there any kits you'd reccomend?
You’re incredible,
❤
Can u use the same needle on yourself for multiple tattoos at once?
I would say yes?? But clean in between
5 dots like that (quincunx) is a symbol of spending time in prison 🤔
The symbol has many meanings in different cultures, it can represent fertility and also has links to astrology. But yes, it also can mean you've been to prison🤷🏼♀️
can you go back over the tattoo a day later if it’s not dark enough or do you need to wait a week or two for it to heal first?
id recommend waiting2 weeks for it to heal x
2 weeks
Very good vid , just used wood dye for my first one
Jesus Christ please don't do that
I did mine with pen ink and a sewing needle 👁👄👁

its doing fine actually!
How deep should it go is my question
If I tattoo only myself, can I use the same needle?
Definitely not recommended
No gloves, porous surface, dirty ink cup. Literally a sanitation nightmare
I recommend checking out this person's stick and poke video that explains how to get a clean surface, and all the supplies you need. ruclips.net/video/EooWnp5mpBU/видео.html
Love this 😊
how bad does this hurt ??
Does is hurts, and does it fade fast?
Doesn't hurt for me. And depending on where it is and how it heals etc it'll probs need a going over
On the topic of; “Does it hurt?”: My mom asked me why I got tattoos and plan to get more, I told her it was better than cutting. It’s a release. Yes it hurts but there’s a result to the madness
Could I use tape to help spread the skin tight?
U can, but it's probably not working right. The best way to stretch ur skin to tattoo properly is to stretch it with ur fingers
What size needles did you use
5rl and 3rl
i did a stick n poke on my finger about a week ago and its starting to scab and i feel like i could just ppeel it off
It's healing. the best thing u can do is not pick the "dead" skin that's coming off. It's excess ink, ur body doesn't take. So don't pick on it, and it should heal fine
@@wauwau1923 the tattoo isnt there but i can see that itl clearly scarred and theres just like a few dots of ink that stayed in there, probbaly cause i used pen ink lol oops
What are some other kinds of deodorants you can use?
gel deodorant x
