It is a survival instinct one acquires as a way to protect themselves and know how someone is feeling just by looking at them. This is also accompanied by hyper vigilance. Or if mom slams kitchen cabinets while she’s putting dishes away, it’s probably best to stay in our room and stay away to protect ourselves or else they will take their anger out on us.
