This was my 1st big climb back in 1991. Nice to look back. Also because we were in the clouds and had no view. More ice back then.
The ladder was not there back then on the approach to the hut.

      1991!!! It's been 32 years!
I guess the glacier was much thicker back then.
      Cheers!

Great video. I couldn't see what protection, you used on the face. Did this route a long time ago, like in the 90s, and put snargs into the nevee. When we were on the Nadelgrat we saw a helicopter recue from the Lenspitze Nordwand. I guess it must have been a late starter struck by stonefall 😞

We placed a few screws, but most parties didn't place any protection.
For the ridge, we mostly protected with the rope, we placed a handful of slings and a couple of friends.

Wow, more climbers than on Everest.🤣 That traverse looked like a faff. Great weather though.

This felt like the Everest for the rockies, lol.
Luckily there weren't many bottlenecks, but falling ice was a danger

I don't understand climbing roped without clipping into any protection.

In ridges, we often protect using the rope against the rock directly. However, when the terrain is easy or unprotectable, we often keep climbing roped

@@dougdavis8986 Yet the problem ist if you put away the rope you are hesitant to take it out again.. it's always hard to decide when to put it away and when to keep it ..
