***** Pretty sure they've steered their way from religion. I mean as if this songs lyrics weren't blatant enough, check out their drummer's blog. I think its beautiful.
Doubt they left behind their faith. Just because someone swears and had doubts once in a while doesn't mean they don't believe anymore. It's rad music though. That's what really matters.
Where on earth did we get the idea that the Prince of the Planet is the Pope? Jesus uses the phrase "ruler of the world" in John 14:30 to refer to Satan, not the Pope. Just to clarify, this isn't coming from a Catholic, but I don't think that this song is calling out Catholicism at all - I think he's calling out "the lie" of consumerism and material satisfaction. "riches to rags" is in reference to the sacrifice we, as Westerners, need to make in order to "take up our cross" (Matt. 16:24). "I won't be your mannequin" is an allusion to storefront displays of the finest the store has to offer. We cannot make our lives about showing off wealth/status. That's what this song screams to me, anyway. It's not an attack of Catholicism, it's an attack of the Western model of "happiness comes from a satisfied wish-list" we don't usually admit that we have, but many of us fall to. Speaking for myself, I've believed that lie too long.
Very different from the old stuff. Didn't realize you guys were back together making content again. I've been out of the loop for a long time. Glad you guys are back. At for least for a few more years. More is better though.
been listening to ACB heavily since 2008, love all the records, each one in its particular way. THIS SONG IS REALLY GOOD. what's important about it is that ACB melodies and harmonies are pretty much recognizable, it delivers that flavour I've been longinig for during the last several years without the band. yeah, in terms of arrangement it might not be on top of whatever they're able to compose, a bit outdated. but I believe if they really spend some good time together practising and improvising, we'll hear that genuine experimental sound of ACB. anyways THANK YOU BIG TIME AS CITIES BURN. and filnally, just to make you totally sick - GOD OH GOD HOW I WISH YOU'D PUT OUT A RECORD < A NEW DAMN ALBUM cheers! much love from Moscow/Russia
This is the first song I've ever heard from this band and I like the christian undertones. The theme of this song is something I've been really thinking deeply about lately, how earthly things mean so little when we consider death and what comes after. I also like how they had that Revelation reference with the "144,000". Good stuff.
Fezzzi Prince of the Planet is a reference to biblical text, Satan as the "prince of the power of the air". Although it's interesting that they color the P O P and E, I highly doubt it's actually about the pope.
Fezzzi To add to my previous reply, they also chose to say "You accuser, Prince of the planet." Satan is repeatedly referred to as the Accuser and the Liar in the Old Testament. The coupling of these two titles suggests to me that it is not about the pope at all. Based on the first lines of the song "First things first: First World last," indicates that it is meant to wake people up from the delusion that wealth will bring peace to one's soul. Especially the line First World last, when referenced to what I mentioned before, and what Jesus said about whoever is greatest among you must become least; as Americans in a first world, we have all of these things, and these blessings, and we think we are the best, but Jesus warns us to become the least. Our pride will be the obstacle barring our entrance to heaven. It is my opinion only that this is what Cody and TJ chose to sing about.
Chris Keyes I also thought it was a title used for Satan for the same reasons you stated. Highly doubt it's directed toward the pope, but it's possible.
zombiescizor I'm honestly impressed by your comment, you basically laid out all the things I wanted to say in my original comment but I didn't want to come off as super preachy.
Why us everyone screaming "Pope"?"Prince of Earth has always meant Satan. If anyone really wants to know what the song means. Look up who wrote it and try and contact them to ask.Unless you came up wuth the song, you are wrong as to what the meaning is."
As a fan of this band ( I have their reunion tour poster next to my bedpost).... This song is the worst song I've ever heard by them. I get the feeling that this song is meant to be a joke, especially sound wise.
good but... some real criticism? This doesn't even come close to touching Come Now Sleep or anything else they've done to date. Also, the song and video remind me of DGD to the point where it feels unoriginal and samey. Why not stick with the style they worked so hard to develop instead of playing what all the other bands are doing? ~end rant. better than nothing I guess.
This is easily the most underrated ACB song of all time
THANK YOU, GOD'S CHOSEN BAND
Fantastic.

Michael Olivier Pretty sure they have not steered away. This song is filled with tons of Christian related things. Just glad to see em back :)
Hewbz this song is about how corrupt the pope and religion is. its pretty obvious

Levi Jaymes this song is about the Pope. Prince of the Planet. P.O.P.E. They even color code it at the beginning of the video.

Why us everyone screaming "Pope"?"Prince of Earth has always meant Satan.
If anyone really wants to know what the song means. Look up who wrote it and try and contact them to ask.Unless you came up wuth the song, you are wrong as to what the meaning is."
Hi
Meh.
THIS should be on spotify, not the 2018 song :(
