I loved this video! It's really interesting how the events have changed over the years, and I don't see lots of discussion on this topic. A lot of newer cubers might not have seen a magic or master magic before, and it's crazy to think that for a very long time both were seriously contested events with their own world record history and top competitors, and world champions. One thing that I'd like to point out though is that 3x3 No Inspection was never considered an official event by the WCA, but for whatever reason it appeared in the rules anyway. I recall the late Anders Larsson (competition organizer in the early 2000s) mentioning that he held 3x3 No Inspection at many competitions, but unlike the Siamese Cube he could never get it sanctioned by the board.
Thanks for the info! 3x3 no inspection was a tough one to scrounge up details for, so it's nice to hear more about the event & those who were involved. I always wished I could've attended some of these earlier events (especially Magic). Never got to a competition until a couple years after they were removed. I think it would honestly be cool to see more organizers hosting unofficial events, and even bringing back some older puzzles for fun so more new competitors can experience them.
this video feels so dark and eerie in the way it was put together despite it literally being about events removed in an organisation for twisty puzzle solving
The fact that fascinates me the most about removed WCA events is the fact that nobody will never beat their last official WR holder (I mean... officially)
I make fun of clock because I think it's goofy compared to the other WCA events, but you're probably right. I recently judged clock at a comp over this past summer, and was surprised at how many participants it had. Then again, clock can be an uncommon event to host, so any event that does host it will draw competitors from a large area.
@@konkyunk well in Bangalore, India there is a special comp series that is aimed towards Side Events every month. Even though the compertitor limit is very small (30) it gets filled very fast. It is in one of these comp there was a wr single in clock.
A history lesson every newer cuber should watch or we are doomed to have Feet as an event again sometime in the future. I also think that time is running out for Clock and nice trick at the end.
I feel like if the wca tried again with the first 3 events then I think many people would like them, including me. I mean there is oh and there was feet, so no inspection would probably be a good fill in for feet. The Rainbow Cube also might be really popular as people really like those kinds of puzzles now. I don't know about the Siamese Cube, but it might still be more popular than it could've been. If the WCA tried again with those events then they might gain A LOT of popularity than the events might have been. I personally would really love them.
You forgot about Multi-blind old-style where there was no upper limit for how much time you could get in multiblind. For example WR3 has a time of 6:03:13 and score 33/50.
Good lord, I can only imagine the logistical problems that no time limit would cause for judges & competition resources in general. Thanks for letting me know! I think I might make an entire video about blind events at some point, because they are pretty fascinating, especially to those of us who have no idea how to solve blindfolded.
The WR3 is the longest I could find by scanning the rankings and checking the profiles of those that had pretty long attempst to see if they had longer attempts that weren't a PR. Fun fact regarding this event, the rules regarding points were different then. For instance you would not get DNF for no solved cubes. As an example Mátyás Kuti (2006KUTI01) has a PR of 0/5 in 9:31
Great video mate! I after hearing about those 2007 events I wanted to make a video about this too. But I couldnt find enough information on it. Keep up the quality vids
The germ thing about feet is silly. Do people wipe their butts with their feet? Do they blow their noses with their feet? Do they shake hands, touch doorknobs, rub their eyes, cover sneezes and coughs with their feet? Hands are a hundred times dirtier than feet. It all needs to be cleaned and it will be find. I think the feet comp should be cancelled because it is goofy.
I think it's one of those things where it doesn't matter how clean & cautious the organizers are, it's just a matter of the public's perspective on the event. If you're curious as to where I found out about the issue of hygiene, here is the official event removal statement from late 2019: www.worldcubeassociation.org/posts/removing-official-status-for-3x3x3-with-feet
Was expecting a interesting wca video essay and was super surprised by how funny and well paced this was. Felt like a noncubing youtuber happened to make a video on the topic of cubing, loved every second of it and I subbed!
Very good, thought out and educational video! I know that many people have talked about all of the puzzles mentioned in this video, but no one has talked about Multi-Blind Old style, I think it could be also mentioned as a forgotten event. As I remember, the records don’t show up on wca profiles, but it could be seen in old competition result pages.
Yep, I do all of the editing & everything on the channel (for better or for worse lol). Glad you liked the video! I love making these longer form videos, even though they can take forever to put together. So I'm glad folks enjoy them.
I can't seem to find any evidence of icons for these events ever existing. I tried using the Wayback Machine on the WCA website to find out, but no icons seem to exist for any events this far back. I think you'd have to ask someone who actually competed during this time and/or in one of these events.
@@konkyunk Alright, thanks anyway! I'll probably just make my own (was asking bc of a video I plan on making someday in the future) Again, this video was great and it was nice to see some more specific information on the former WCA puzzles
After watching Tommy teach Tymon how to do clock, I do have to agree that it is a dumb event. The fact that Tymon was able to learn it in a few minutes and memorize how to do it is rediculous. Just do a little math and you can solve it without ever looking at it again, that's pretty dumb. I mean 3x3 blind is kinda the same thing, but at least for that they are actually doing something. With clock it's just a pattern and it works everh time no matter where the hands are.
Yes remove the clock not even a twisty puzzle. Only there because Rubik invented it and want to sell it the same as with the Rubik's Magic (bought it).

This is serious business we're dealing with here.
The only sad thing about this is the fact that at least a couple people dedicated to these events and I bet they were so sad when they got removed
The fact that fascinates me the most about removed WCA events is the fact that nobody will never beat their last official WR holder (I mean... officially)

how is this guy so underrated? earned a sub, man, this is quality content right here
Wtf only 562 subs
I think it's cuz Konky is a name not related to words such as Cubing, Rubik's... etc...
@@TheCubingGrandmaster Well, neither are youtubers like SoupTimmy, or Tingman
Agreed 👍
He earned a sub from me too😊

Part of the reason to cancel Feet, was that way fewer people competed in it than in any other event.

2X2 BLD should be an event
YES! I agree so much
But people already one-look 2x2 so a blindfolded event wouldn’t add that much new complexity

for reference, i believe that the day of feet being removed, the wr was broken and i don’t think it’s 15 secs, but i’m not sure
Clock is stil relevant bc in my next comp there are around the same amount of people doing clock as 5x5.

Rainbow Cube is so cool, I should get it in the future.
It's fun, just kind of expensive. I think WitEden is the only company that makes it. It's around $40.

If clock gets removed I migth actually quit its not fair for people like me who put work in the event

do you think it was fair for feet solvers?
another reason feet got removed is because people are now so attracted to them it is considered "porn" when someone isn't wearing anything on it
Purposely didn't want to bring that up in the video, but unfortunately yes.
How people even consider feet attractive is beyond me
I'm glad this video was in my recomended page 😂😂😂
