Very courageous of you to post this Chuck. Your dad would be proud. Deepest sympathy and many positive thoughts from Vermont! Take care of yourself- Brent
That was a beautiful story, Chuck. Cancer took my dad 23 years ago. No matter how many years (or decades) go by, there will always be times that your dad is the ONE person whose input or wisdom you need most. When you find yourself having one of those moments, pick up this bass and just play. The answers will come.
I’m sorry for your loss, chuck. It’s wonderful to hear that your father persisted to have you learn such a beautiful instrument, and how much pride you have in it now. Your father sounded like a wonderful man, with good advice on learning the instrument. Losing a loved one is never easy, especially to cancer. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful bass, and an even more beautiful story. Much love, and best of wishes
Hey man. I'm really sorry for your loss. I lost my mom to breast cancer last year. She's the one who started me playing clarinet in 4th grade. She's also the one that bought me my first bass (an Ovation Mark IV in '83). I sold it decades ago, but when I was sitting with her in the hospital as she approached her end of life, I found one online and re-bought it. They'll bury me with that bass. Thanks mom. F* cancer.
Sorry for your loss Cancer fucking sucks I lost my father to Cancer in 2016 and my mother in 2006 i can still hear my father yell at me you got learn more chords! and mother saying you have learn some beatles songs when I was trying to learn I'm broken lol miss them dearly FUCK Cancer!
I've always wanted a hollow body. They have a huge round tone that you can't get anywhere else. Your Yamaha looks and sounds amazing, and I'm sure it's even more valuable to you because it's connected to your dad. My stepfather, who raised me and was for all intents and purposes my father, died of pancreatic cancer in 2015. It was brutal. So I understand your pain.
I'm sorry for your loss Chuck. I know what you are going through. Lost my father the same way in 2005 when i was 25. Stay strong and keep your father in your heart...
I'm very sorry for your loss. That Yamaha bass sounds beautiful. I'm a longtime fan of the Yamaha BB basses. I lost my dad to stomach cancer in early May this year. He was 86 and a retired trucker. It's always been interesting to me: Dad was a conservative, me a dem, but we got along great and he always had interesting stories about people and places. I've had several musical idols and great friends over the years, but I had the privilege to know my dad for 55 years and he was the only hero I've ever had. My heart goes out to you and I know you will treasure your time spent with your dad. Respect. 🙏
So so sorry for your loss. Your words for your father show that he was a great human. Cancer is the worst. I know it all too well unfortunately. My daughter had leukemia at 3 and now, due to her treatments back then, she has glioblastoma at 15. It’s so fucking unfair and makes no sense. We need more funding for cancer research, especially for kids who only get about 4% of all funding from the NIH for research because it’s considered “rare.” Sorry for rambling and much love to you and your family.
That was a very touching story about your Dad, I loved how you mixed up the detail of the amp the guy was playing, it doesn't matter to us in terms of the importance of the story but the detail was soooo important to you, you just had to tell the story right. One word sums this up, Love. You love your Dad.
Sorry for your loss Amigo. Wonderful tribute. It wasnt until my Dad and I started working together that we finally started seeing eye to eye, but once we did... I was very lucky in the fact that we were not only Father and Son, but also great friends. Sounds like you were able to have that on some level as well. As much of a metal head as I am and as much of a jazz fan as he was, when I started playing bass my tastes greatly expanded and we connected through music as well. He introduced me to Joe Pass and I showed him Jaco. The last Christmas present he got me before he passed was a Master of Puppets t-shirt (my favorite/desert island album). I still have to smile when I think of this some what hale, 74 year old man, going into a mall teen/tween store and getting that for me. Just one of many reasons why looking back, and thinking of "The Ole Man" is not really a sad thing for him not being here now, but more a reason to smile for the many good and fun times we had. Salute for your Pops. He may not have known it, but he did find that thing the two of you could connect with.
Please... Make a Video about Gretsch Country Gentleman (6070 (???) One Pickup; 6071 (???) Two Pickups), Semi-Hollow 34 Inches Bass. Excelent Vídeo 👏👏👏!!!
I have one identical . Plastic around the pickups is only difference . Yours is chrome . I inherited it from my nana same deal 😢 . I always played it in the band when i was 12 so it means a lot to me .
All of your stories have been truly heartfelt and amazing. We are bonded my friends through pain and music. It will always be hard but we will make our way through it all… with music as our compass.
Im sorry for your loss Chuck , I know all too well what your going through, I lost my father to cancer in 2019. I miss him so much! Stay strong and keep on playing with all your heart! I know that music has helped me heal the loss of my father. I hope music will help you heal. Bless you!
I emailed Yamaha told them the make and model and they were able to date it for me! Give it a go Felix and lemme know if that works! Best buddy and thanks for watching
Hello! can i ask you something about the bass? I ve just got one from 68. It is not in that good condition like yours. But my doubt is about the bridge. Is attached to the the body or is kind of floating like a double bass bridge? Thank you!
Just wanted to say Thank you to everyone for your kindness. I appreciate you all very much and you have my thanks.

i have a similar bass can any one tell me where i can get a bridge pick up for it i am in the UAE
Why because 4 strings are shit lol. Hate 5 strings with my small hands
Ibanez with 16.5mm string spacing and a narrow nut would probably fit the bill.
