Fascinating Betty! I'm Not even half way through. There are so many paintings in this one piece. I pause sometimes to enjoy it before it changes. You are such a fast printer.
I’m about halfway through the video and wanted to share with you what I’ve seen in your painting. I saw a huge orange fox. Three orange cats sitting with their backs towards me and also turning their heads to look over their shoulders. I saw a huge pigeon with a pink head and neck. I saw a smaller fox. I saw a sheep and a swan. I also saw a cityscape and many other things. I think your paintings are wonderful. I’m learning so much from you. I think the reason I see so many animals is because your creativity is contagious. 🥰
Your process is liberating! You follow your intuition, don’t get hung up, and make painting both an exploration and an enjoyable experience. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Thank you, Betty. At 34 minutes I appreciated your comment about ‘shoulds.’ Thou Shalt Not Should on Thyself’ is a huge support for me as I am learning to paint. Your layers and alternating between warm and cool are really helping me find a way to relate to the canvas. I appreciate you!
You are so welcome! Yes....those "shoulds" can really get us going down the wrong path! But, like I said, it's good to try everything and figure out what works best for you. Wishing you many hours of fun and creativity!
once again, the commentary in your bluntly honest terms makes the video so valuable, thanks again for showing us your process both visually and verbally, which inspires all of us to just try to be creative. well adjusted, self actualized comes to mind.
Ok...to begin with they are incredibly joyous. The colors are magnificent. I seem to be stuck in a continual loop of your videos. I watch them over and over. Thank you for sharing. It makes my day.
I found you just in time. Thank you for sharing your process verbally,, in real time. I've reached a point in my painting journey that I want to switch from watercolor to abstract but don't trust myself to begin. Now I feel I have a partner I can paint with who is fun, forgiving and generous. I am ready to make the jump. Thank you so much.
Hi Betty have been listening to your voice for the past hour or so (sometimes repeating if my hubby disturbs me) while I do my own art. I find you so relaxing to listen to. But try as I might I cant get my head around abstract art. But I will perservere as I love flowers too. Im now a subscriber. I love long videos 🙏😊
hello, I'm a french textil artist; this summer Ihad a lot of work ti finish, hand-stitching ... ans during Istitch, I look at your videos ... and it's so a pleasure to see you painting ... the colours ... your paintbrush and your movments ... and obviously, I made a little piece of wall prepared for painting because it made me envy to paint ! the relation with colours and visions is not at all the same with textil and I miss it regulary, lol. (all my life I sketched and painted a little but it is not my principal art) So, thank you very much for showing your process, it is so good
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I'm so happy you're enjoying my videos and my paintings. Wishing you many wonderfully creating hours with your textile and paintings!
Hi Betty thanks so much for your video it really inspired me. I like that style ..and your teaching gave me Power to go to the next steps you Show me theres nothing you can make wrong..i start. Painting this year and it makes me happy and fill my life during the hard Times we all have..warm greetings from germany.. stay healthy...
Hi Nicole! I'm super happy for you for getting into creating art! Yes, this has been a difficult year for many and I'm so happy that art is a part of my life to get me through it all. Sending you sunshine from California!
I love your art! But, hands down, I really love your commentary during the process best. I found so much validation for the struggles I have as I start, work on, then finish something. There are so many inspiring gems that I’m sure I will return to watch and listen again and again. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
I really love the addition of the pencil flowers...I also love just to use pencil to make marks!. The tip of using your phone on edit to try new things without totally making a commitment is a great idea! Thanks Betty - loved the hour spent with you!
Thank you Betty....I am 57 and just starting out on abstract art....indeed art itself and was inspired, driven and excited by watching your video...watching, but also listening to your process was extremely encouraging and has added to my excitement and confidence. Thank you and I loved the end product! 😉❤️🙏
I believe I am going to get into abstract! I usually paint in detail and end up “stuck “! I’m loving the freedom that this would give me!! Plus, I Love to dance!!
Dear Betty: you make my heart sing! It’s been two weeks now that I found you and I’ve been mesmerized by your process and your art. You are such a generous teacher- thank you! As a beginner, I appreciate how you explain your process: I learn so much with each session! But also: as a beginner, thanks to you, I find myself dreaming that perhaps I too can climb into a canvas and take a stroll in my own garden as I create it and experience it grow. I look forward to taking your course once the kids return to school. Sending you bouquets of Agapanthus from my cottage garden in Cyprus, Valentina.
I'm finishing up a painting with my new paints and I'm finally starting to get it. I have tried many times, but I think k it is making sense. Thank you Betty for sharing your talent🥰
You have made me rethink my paint technique. I have been so caught up in rules and structure that I forgot to enjoy what I do. Watching you dance around and expressing your delight in colour has woken up my desire to get back into my studio and start again. Thank you Betty x
I really enjoyed watching you work. I did learn some things I want to try. I like your style and use of color so much. I love color, and that is where my focus always is.
I just watched you paint this giant painting! You really finished it beautifully! It was looking difficult in the middle of the painting and I was wondering, “ what in the world are you going to do to bring it around.” It was so good to see a difficult painting turn out with such great colors and composition and so much interest. Sometimes when I get stuck in the middle, I lose interest in the painting and don’t want to even look at it for a while. You showed me it’s so possible to turn it around and finish well. I’m in the middle of a 20x20 giving me trouble. I’m going to stick with it and try some different colors and more marks. You inspire me . ☺️
Thank you for sharing your process. It is so helpful that you include how you prepared your work space, mentioned which paints you've had success with, and explained how you hung a large canvas with the plastic. Those "practical" steps are crucial to beginners and are often never mentioned. Great video!
One brave lady ... so many times I thought stop stop its beautiful now but you moved on to pull it all together and at the end created an amazing depth almost architectural !! I get caught in the structure and don't allow the dance to take place. Very beautiful work and much appreciation for your sharing of the process with us.😊
Loving your paintings and loving your very inspirational videos. I’ve painted all my life (taught art for many years), but mostly watercolours. I’ve been experimenting with acrylics recently as have much more time to concentrate on my painting since Covid. Your videos have been really helpful. I love how you start with random marks, then cool and warm layers of colour. I no longer have that ‘preciousness’ you can get when faced with a pristine white surface. Very freeing! I also like to hear your thought processes and problem solving techniques.I’m really enjoying experimenting with abstraction and colour. Acrylics are great! Thank you
Hi Georgina! I'm so happy you enjoyed this video! I totally agree that it's very freeing in the early stages of mark making and putting down paint. Super fun! Thank you for watching and sharing!
Can’t thank you enough for sharing your work and a little bit about your evolution as an artist. It’s a relief to know that you also went through limbo like I am currently going through right now...it feels like I’ve been forever at the “finding-my-niche or my-style-“ stage. I’ve tried other things, tho not consistently (as I find something else that looks interesting and try that) So for me, the hardest part is identifying my style and what really defines me as an artist and what makes me happy. And yes, I too love dancing 💃 or listening to music when creating. Tho last night, I felt like listening to Bach which was also amazing! Kudos Betty and looking forward to your future videos 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Oh, I so understand the journey you're on. Keep on moving forward. You'll find your style...or, as I like to say, it'll find you! But, it's so important to just keep on creating. I'm sure there are parts of each style you try that are showing up more consistently for you. Start identifying those. For example, for me, it was all about layering. And then, it was all about noticing that I was noticing lines in nature. Think about what you notice and start recognizing it. It will all come together for you!
I know that struggle to find what is truly my style and perhaps trying too many mediums and things in the search. Using color is the one thing I know is consistently challenging and interesting to me, and what I’m drawn to in the work of others.
You helped me overcome a huge stuck point I was at. I only wanted to do representational impressionism and wouldn't look at anything else. I was getting bored and didn't produce enough because I was not inspired to move on and explore. I'm not sure I will do pure abstract but I certainly have started using techinques I learned from you, especially being more experimental. I was way too careful. I'm very excited.
Always love the laters showing through. Using phone to edit a good idea. Interesting that doodkes coming in as a continuation of earier works but in a more subtle way.👍
I now know how not to end up with mud. Im generally excited to put paint to canvas and mix on my paint brush as I go, but so often I ended up with mud. Sticking with only cool or warm colors only in between drying stages was the key I was missing. Thank you! Your work is stunning. Your process and the many layers create such depth. I'm a bug fan!
Wow!!! Yet another masterpiece. I love the flowers and leaves that you added on your final layer. I think this one is one of my favorites. Eager to see more if your creations. Thank you for sharing. ❤️ 🎨🖌 ❤️
Betty, What a totally brilliant start to my day. 🙏 Thank you so much for sharing your creative process and journey, your thoughts, dance moves and attitude 😃🥰😍 And I’m not even at the end yet. Pxxx
" I love to doodle" That's what led me here! I've always been an avid doodler. Your art reminds me of my doodles- just have to figure out how to incorporate that doodle love into my painting.
Very interesting , I dont know anything about abstract art ... but I think I might give it a go. That stripey chair is begging for some fabric paint and your fabulous abstract touch x
Hi Betty. Thank you so much for sharing your videos. I just love the way you do them. Speed is right and your commentary makes me feel like I’m right there with you. (Which I wish I was lol). I just love, love, love the way you use colour and you have inspired me to have a go. Thank you so much once again.
Thank you so much, Marie! Always happy to have you come along and paint with me! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Wishing you many hours of joy and creativing!
Absolutely stunning! I teach art to inner city youth in Cleveland. Just got a call from a local hospital to showcase my art - possibly- I am going to create a large piece using your techniques wish me luck!thanks for sharing......
Thank you so much, Heidi! I love Flora! But, I don't feel that my art is like hers. She uses a lot of symbols (birds, flowers, trees, etc.) in her artwork that I don't use. However, happy to be connected with her in your eyes!! Thanks for watching!
I have always thought as a sensitive, that comparison can be the thief of joy. I believe you, Betty, have a creative energy and output that is truly yours. What may feel familiar (to Flora and so many feminine creatives of this era) is that wonderful vibrancy, energy, and courage. Grateful to be in this time 🌈🌱🦩💗
@@perlagaffney4776 Oh, good point! I never thought of it in that way. I appreciate you making me aware that it's not necessarily a comparison of the images we see. Thank you, Perla!
Betty, watching this was helpful to me because it makes me feel like you truly struggled with this painting as I so often do with nonobjective work. Thankfully I am tenacious enough to see some of my paintings through to the end but not always....hopefully as I continue on this journey more and more of them will speak to me enough to help resolve them. It is helpful to hear you discuss what you aren't happy with and how you continue to step away, distance yourself to gain perspective. Thank you for your generosity.
Hi Susan! I think of each painting as a journey. It goes through so many stages before it's done. I love each stage...even when it's difficult and I don't know where I'm headed. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Thanks for sharing your fascinating and liberating process. Very inspiring, particularly how you slowly get to the point of composition through several layers. Form emerging from matter rather than being imposed on or imprinted into the material. It gives your work a fantastic and healing freedom. I try to write like this.
I'm always in awe of all the layers you incorporate into each piece!! This one is my new favorite 🤩🤩🤩 Thanks for sharing the process and the close-ups! ♡♡♡ x.o
Hi Betty, Thanks for sharing the process and the close-up. that's really beautiful painting and the colour of painting in beautiful balanced. i love it .
@@BettyFranksArt You're so welcome Betty! I cannot wait to watch your other videos :) I am new to painting so it's wonderful to witness your process like this!
I love the process you do as you create your painting. I also appreciate your common sense approach and advice your giving your viewers. I'm at the stage I'm struggling as to what I want to do. I love to sketch, trying out watercolors but feel as if I'm not getting good enough at this time to create the depth I want, still work on it. I love your abstract also because it all comes together, doesn't look chaotic. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Anna! I would recommend that you keep on creating and not put limits on the type of art you create. I think exploring all types of art helps us improve our skills and also helps us figure out what we love to do most. Thank you so much for watching my video!

Wonderful! I love that you're pausing to enjoy it before it changes again!
The idea of listening to podcasts casts to quite your critical mind is one I shall borrow, thanks.
Fantastic! I hope it works for you like it does for me!
This video confirms everything I thought about abstract ‘art’.
I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks for watching, Henry!
Watching you create has given me the push I needed to get back to painting. Your art and methods have truly inspired me and I am so grateful.
That is awesome! I always love hearing that! THANK YOU so much for your support and contribution. It means a lot to me! 🥰

Adding the dark values near the end really made everything pop!
Right?! Made a big difference. Thanks so much for watching, Di!
Yes I really enjoy these 10 minute videos Betty, and mixing colours would be great too. Thanks! ❤

I appreciate that, Andrae! Perfect imperfections is how I view my art. I'm so happy you said that!
You have made me rethink my paint technique. I have been so caught up in rules and structure that I forgot to enjoy what I do. Watching you dance around and expressing your delight in colour has woken up my desire to get back into my studio and start again. Thank you Betty x

Your art is so beautiful, it remind me of a summer day full with so much love and happiness.

Yes, I bet it will help you relax if you listen to something you love!
Amazing. It is scribbling but it works so well. The colours are fantastic
It's a very controlled scribbling! Thanks so much for watching, Barbara!
What a great harmony of colors!!
Many thanks! I appreciate you watching!
I love you painting
Many thanks! I appreciate you watching the video!

Betty you are a through legend, the canvas is how many meters, since the time I know my self, I never see this big canvas like this
Thanks! It's about 1.5 meters by 1.5 meters.
Beautiful. Great job
Much appreciated, Teresa! Thanks for watching!
Love this one. The marks, colours and composition all come together making a vibrant harmonious work...bravo!!!
Thank you so much, Alain! I appreciate you watching!

That's awesome, Jan! I'm sure you'll find a way to include doodles in your artwork. Thank you so much for watching!
Very interesting , I dont know anything about abstract art ... but I think I might give it a go.
That stripey chair is begging for some fabric paint and your fabulous abstract touch x
Go for it, Sandi! Thanks so much for watching!
I learned so much from watching this. Now, just hope I can loosen up! Thank you for sharing!
You can do it! I find that I can loosen up more if I work on paper (because it's just paper!). Have fun!
I did that too with my first Nova paints. I definitely put your name on my order😍
You are very kind! Enjoy your new paints!!
Great to see your process and how you use different tools to move forward. Thanks for sharing, so helpful, Betty. Love from west coast of Ireland.
You are so welcome, Frances! Thank you for watching from Ireland!
I love color too... bright colors always catch my eye.. . Love sharp contrast as well....
Yes! Totally agree!
It's a great abstraction. It was a great time to learn and enjoy !
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
I love your art.You are a big inspiration for me.Thank you so much. Greetings from germany.
Thank you so much, Martina! Sending you sunshine from California!
Too good. Trying to enter the abstract art direction quite some time, here I get a superb learning and inspiration. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much, Anita! Glad you found it helpful!
Absolutely stunning! I teach art to inner city youth in Cleveland. Just got a call from a local hospital to showcase my art - possibly- I am going to create a large piece using your techniques wish me luck!thanks for sharing......
Congratulations! Very exciting!
I love watching your creations come to life! Thank you for sharing. Your art reminds me very much of Flora Bowley, who I adore. 💜🎨💜
Thank you for posting your work. It was inspiring. The finished painting is a pleasure to look at.
Thank you very much, Katerine! I appreciate you watching!
It's beautiful!!
Thank you!
Excellent paintings.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for sharing your fascinating and liberating process. Very inspiring, particularly how you slowly get to the point of composition through several layers. Form emerging from matter rather than being imposed on or imprinted into the material. It gives your work a fantastic and healing freedom. I try to write like this.
Thank you, Johan! I like the way you described my process. Thank you so much for watching!
Absolutely gorgeous, Betty ❤️
Thank you so much, Sara!

I appreciate your kind message, Stacy! Thank you so much!
@@BettyFranksArt You're so welcome Betty! I cannot wait to watch your other videos :) I am new to painting so it's wonderful to witness your process like this!
BEAUTIFUL process. I love how free you look while painting. Thanks for the inspiration. I want to try on my channel!
Go for it! Enjoy the process and your time creating. Thanks so much for watching!
Gorgeous!!!
Thank you so much, Jon!
Love watching you paint, so inspiring, thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, Eva!
