That's decent HP from a 1.6L but it's just too weak of an engine for this car. Not fast or peppy by any means. I dislike the rear end which IMO looks half baked, rear seat entry is just terrible aside from the awful legroom, & I found the front seats uncomfortable.
I will admit that the car is an eye catcher, but it really does fall short of all the hype . Best waiting for the Turbo version coming soon which would make the car tolerable in some form, just not in this ugly color lol.
Update!! As of 10/13/2012, I had the opportunity to drive a Veloster & I was extremely unimpressed. It had the most obvious economy car ride, the lightest & most lifeless steering, the driver seat was too firm to be comfy after 15 mins, the Dual Clutch Automated Manual Gearbox was on the lazy side, & the entry 1.6L engine certainly doesn't provide enough pep to fit the car's attitude. Its an interesting & eye catching car to look at but thats where it ends. It's not a refined, fun, or spirited car to drive. The question now is, has Hyundai rectified any of the above noted shortcomings with the Turbo version?
This isn't a legitimate review, this is someone criticizing a car with no knowledge of it or any car it seems like.

I looked at a 2012 Veloster with tech and style package and that material you called ruff was actually pretty decent, keep in mind its not a 25,000 Scion tc or Honda Civic Si. The start up sounds pretty sporty and i currently drive a 1991 Accord which is an old car, and trust me this is very far away from that. the back seats have exceptional space and I am 5'11the electronics with the vehicle are amazing for the price and the 27.6mpg you saw was it's CITY rating, which is a big deal 40 highway.

Dude, Hyundai are know for dual clutch. Do some research before you do a review.

I drove a Veloster Turbo and loved it.
The turbo version they're coming out with should be a nice little pocket rocket. That third door is a great feature as well.
First i have my 2012 veloster 6 speed manual. Now im driving a 2013 turbo automatic and i love them both. Good price, nice looking car the turbo looks even better and also the best fuel saver.
however your video was pretty good from your perspective and the engine rev's were pretty good. remember when making reviews to look at the with an open mind because not everyone may agree with you and some may be totally with you. and the dust thing with the gear selector, just bring a paper towel or sunglass lense cloth to solve that.

before you totally rule it out check it out, i was the same way and when bored on a weekend went to go check it out, great car for the price but a little slow, always see a few reviews whenever looking at a car you have never even touch, happy car shopping!!!
Fucking terrible review! I own a Veloster and I can honestly say that the car isn't anything out of this world (see price) but I think that in terms of standard equipment the veloster beats any of its competitors hands down! It drives pretty well and I am pretty happy with it! Not sure what the reviewer drives but it must be a fucking good car cause i didn't hear a single positive comment about this car! Decent option for those looking a sporty looking car which is affordable and ok to drive!
@1bentley4ever not much more,its 140 HP on our tiburon...has a bit of pep to it since its paired to a 5 Speed manual,it actually pulls quite nicely...i imagine it being a slug with the optional 4 speed auto.
Oh and BTW the car is supposed to play a little song when it starts up, obviosuly and sadly they turned it off in this one
@JonnyFlash80 Hyundai's goal was to maximize fuel economy and reduce weight, so they got rid of the spare tire. A lot of manufacturers are doing this now for the same reason.

@BrandanCBoggs I agree that the materials are not what a premium car should feel like. But then again, this is not a car for the premium segment. I notice Hyundai's these days are often compared to cars in a different class, which i think is not fair. But then again, that is saying something about its appeal. When i went to test drive this car, i also agree that its ridiculously under power, but again, its a 40mpg vehicle. If you want a luxury car get a audi, bmw or merc.

Beautiful, don't like the 3 door thing. It's inconvenient. Like if the person to your right parks really close to you, your passengers can't get out.
Why would a car with only 2000 miles on it go to auction. Are these low mileage cars usually repos where the person could not make the first payment and the lender took the car back and is now getting money back by selling the collateral?
the only thing that makes the speaker look cheesy is the chrome dust cap...i guess they wanted you to be able to see the speaker's excursion when the music is loud and the bass is pounding :P

@BrandanCBoggs Build quality is important. If Hyundai can't attach a piece of plastic firmly inside the cabin, I'd be taking a second look at how they handle the important parts under the hood. I like how Intechdude shows what build quality of the interior is like by manhandling everything. Something I don't get with Saabkyle04's vids.

call me picky but that starter sound really throws off the rest of the car, so modern and sporty looking and then 70's starter. lol
@fanowner12 How much can a small donut tire actually weigh? 30-40 lbs? Hardly advantageous enough to outweigh the fact that if you get a flat tire you will be paying for a tow. I'd rather burn a few extra cents worth of fuel knowing I have a spare tire in the trunk.

I don't know about velosters in the U.S. but the korean version had really cheap plastics all over the interior. I mean, it had the worst interior quality among all hyundai models.
You should review Elantra GT when it comes out in the U.S. That one had good quality.
@1bentley4ever i've never heard a V6 toyota roar unless your talking about the woosh the clutch fan makes...but yes Toyota's and Honda's crank in a much more refined manner than Hyundais..but they're working on it.

I liked these when they came out but after actually looking at one I was really disappointing. It was cool looking in pictures but just awkward in person not to mention the engine is awful sounding and just not enough power for the car.
The rear end of this car is sexy. Ur eyes seem a bit half baked. They put the rear door there for IIIIIIFFFFF you want to put passengers on the rear so that it's easier, I will admit that the headroom is very limited though. I do like the way you look at things into detail such as the door frame. I feel that the cars should at least be of quality that you don't see shit like that.

I hear that Hyundai is going to have a turbo version with 201 hp this summer. I like the styling but I don't like the idea of just having 3 doors. I think they either should have 2 rear doors or just left them off altogether. The starter does sound ancient and it's something that they should change.
