It was ANYTHING but a fine engine. I owned two of them. 81/82 they came up with a couple of things that made them a smidge better than the earlier ones. A fine engine is a small block Chevy, the 300 Ford inline 6...etc. These are not even on the same planet as a "fine engine"
This here is what I call a Cadillac. This time period and before. What GM makes in todays time are not Cadillac's. They're just dressed up chevy's with a Cadillac emblem on it.
I have a 95 fleetwood brougham with 50,000 orginal miles and its never been in salt or snow or rain....a desert car in excellent condition. Built by Texans.
ONE down side to an ultra low mileage purchase like this is, if you drive (to enjoy) the car & put considerable miles on it, your "investment" goes South! I'm sure his Pricing reflects 1,300 miles. Having 23,000 or 33,000 miles would knock thousands off! I know the books indicate petty differences, i.e. a few hundred $$ difference, but this is the real world.
You must be talking about the Goodwrench 350DX Diesel engine. It was bulletproof to the first 350 diesel engines. I would've given my eye teeth for a GM diesel car in this great shape!
Tony Fleming and those interested : FYI the 5.7 Olds diesel was only installed in a Chevy or GMC truck from 1978-1981. Then came the DD 6.2. which ran from 1982-1992. Then came the DD 6.5 turbo that ran from 1993-2002. Then the 6.6 Isuzu Duramax was installed and is still the engine used today. 5.7 olds diesels were installed in Gm Passenger cars from 1978-1985.
This is unbelievable a car like this with the original tires and all original GM parts built from the factory..... Seriously what's the catch your telling me a guy that worked at a dealer and got brain new cars saved this car and never drove it -shaking my head- it's just hard to believe. If I worked at a dealer especially in the 80s (: I would of bought new cars every year.
@Marksnotebook : Why? Because you don't know anything about one? This car will get 25mpg and carry 5 passengers all day long. I lol at all the haters who know absolutely zero about diesels. I own 2 of these. and love them.
My Buick Regal isn't a classic but it's an 89 and I still have every history bill sheet with the car since my grandpa bought it new. When I restore it will look like that car. But it won't have any factory chalk marks lol. Also Buick used cheap paint when they painted my car because it started faded after a couple of years. Never trust Macao either! They don't paint you're car according to the factory vin number to which you can find the paint code with and they never gave me my rear quarter trim body side emblems back. Also found the door edge guards in the trunk which I never received a fresh set. But anyway that's the story.
Some cars had Uniroyals. I believe my parents '83 Coupe DeVille did from what I remember. My parents bought it new in the fall of 1982. A year and a half later, my dad wound up working for that very same dealership. He worked there until he passed away in 1988.
@wtl1964 diesels run hot...they have to, its part of how they work...ant that actually looks about right for maby 2500 miles, maybe 1300 in the summer.
The reason for the low miles is because it is a diesel,my father had one of these and it was a beautiful piece of junk. Also, this car has the standard interior of a coupe deville, not hte de'elegance.
Shame it's an oil burner. When you find a '76 Fleetwood Brougham mint in wrapper let me know :) D'elegance was the top trim level was it not? This looks like a base model Coupe de Ville.
I know where there is a 1981 with 77,000 miles on it! A old lady had it an it was kept under a car port it's life!! What's is worth? It looks new in and out!
My uncle had one of these new and I saw it for the first time at my dad's wake when he drove up from TX for it. He sold it shortly thereafter and bought a Lincoln LSC. The '81 was in mint condition. Before my dad passed in 1988, we were going to consider buying it from my uncle (his older brother), but I decided to pass on it. The 4-6-8 was still functional, but then again, it was a TX car.
You don't want a diesel engine...now you take the 368 engine and you got a nice big block and this was the last year that 368 was made thanks to the CAFE and gov standards that nearly broke Cadillac.
That is that is not correct. Both the 368 carbureted engine (VIN code 6) and the DFI 368 (vin code 9) were used through the 1984 model year on commercial cars (limos/short sills cowls, etc.). It was used on passenger and commercial cars in 1981 and in the Eldorado and Seville in 1980.
Yeah, no. He's right and wrong when he calls it a "second generation diesel." Yes it's a second generation Oldsmobile diesel, no it was not a truck diesel. DX block Olds diesel remedied most of the problems w/ the D block diesels. Same basic motor though. The 6.2L Detroit never was a car motor.
Unfuckingbelieveable car.....very sadly that the Caddy has an diesel. It's very strange combination of ''body style/engine type'' for american luxeury coupe ). Have no words anymore....
lowest mileage coupe deville in the world? I doubt that. gm has cars in their museum that have 0 miles on them, because they rolled right off of the assembly line into their museum and i'm willing to bet they have a classic deville with no miles on it in their museum.
At the time, gasoline had risen to over $1.00 gallon and we had just survived the 1979 gas crisis, so people were concerned but did not want to give up their big cars. So, diesel engines were popular around that time for a while. However, the GM diesel had its problems. Oddly enough a lot of folks rectified them by using strengthened cylinder head bolts. I believe ARP makes ones that work and solve the problem. By then of course, the damage had been done to GM's reputation.
Never heard an owner of a dealership sound so much like a "Used car man" - he got so much wrong about this car it was pathetic to watch. GREAT car though, might want to stick to the muscle cars handsome. LUXURY isn't a good place for ya....
It was ANYTHING but a fine engine. I owned two of them. 81/82 they came up with a couple of things that made them a smidge better than the earlier ones.

I have a 1982 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham with only 2850 km, maybe the second lowest mileage Cadillac in the world?
Tony Fleming and those interested : FYI the 5.7 Olds diesel was only installed in a Chevy or GMC truck from 1978-1981. Then came the DD 6.2. which ran from 1982-1992. Then came the DD 6.5 turbo that ran from 1993-2002. Then the 6.6 Isuzu Duramax was installed and is still the engine used today.

That is correct. They were coded as "N" on the VIN (1978-1980, 5th digit) and "N" again on the VIN (1981-1985, 8th digit). It was GM RPO code "LF9".
The myth with the early GM diesels being derived from the gasoline engine block is just that btw... a myth.
I have a 1982 Cadillac deville, with 8 thousand original miles. It was drivin less than a year. Everything original.
The 80s generation cars hear my new friend 24/7!!!!!. 1980-1989!!!!!.
now this is a car !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, same age as me this car is and it is a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah this car should be stored in Detroit they have a archive with all these new cars that rolled off the assembly line but were never driven.
Tone, you look like a made man in that Cadillac!!!! Awesome awesome piece!
This is unbelievable a car like this with the original tires and all original GM parts built from the factory..... car is the same age as me , beautiful car !!
love this car
Amazing
she's a beauty
@montey1017 ya i know that but i thought chevy would had compensatted for that but i guess they dont changed much to run a diesle than a 454
I bought a riding lawn mower once, and immediately put it in a climate controlled storage unit, cause I can. LOL.
The key buzzer is often the last ting to go out😆
Yes it is.
I may be wrong but, I was always under the impression that Michelin supplied Cadillacs with their tires while Firestone was under contract with Ford.
Some cars had Uniroyals. I believe my parents '83 Coupe DeVille did from what I remember. My parents bought it new in the fall of 1982. A year and a half later, my dad wound up working for that very same dealership. He worked there until he passed away in 1988.
why under the hood the insulation part is all chard and used
You are correct.
amazing :o even my dads cad dose not look that crisp hope it gose to a good home :3
@wtl1964 diesels run hot...they have to, its part of how they work...ant that actually looks about right for maby 2500 miles, maybe 1300 in the summer.
What did it sell for?
The reason for the low miles is because it is a diesel,my father had one of these and it was a beautiful piece of junk. Also, this car has the standard interior of a coupe deville, not hte de'elegance.
Oldsmobile 350 diesel surprised it still runs
@Marksnotebook but a small blocks more responsive
I wonder how much it sold for?
how much are u seklling this car for Id like to buy it
5.5 means that the door was repainted? :)
Wow, it never was rained on probably too.
SO ROLL ROLL, THE 83, CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE
Shame it's an oil burner. When you find a '76 Fleetwood Brougham mint in wrapper let me know :)
D'elegance was the top trim level was it not? This looks like a base model Coupe de Ville.
Are these cars for sale? If so, where?
how much you sold it? or you sitll got it?
pce

is this car still there?
Mohammed Alghamdi hello Mohammed you like classic cars?
You can disable the 8 6 4 system easy enough.
Can't do that with the diesel.
Buy any car in this condition and after a short while some fool in a new p.o.s. runs into you and there goes the car. That would suck!
I have the same vehicle with an additional 90k miles on it and this is all I worry about anymore, the original Diesel engine and trans work perfectly
Diesel Cadillacs are super rare!
It being the rair better diesel will make it worth
a lot in 20 years
You don't want a diesel engine...now you take the 368 engine and you got a nice big block and this was the last year that 368 was made thanks to the CAFE and gov standards that nearly broke Cadillac.

Lowest milage car. There's actually a 1977 VW Beetle in Ireland un-registered and has only 40 miles on the clock.
There probably is no light in the dash to alert the driver to remove water from the diesel fuel.
toyoscio
I believe these did have a Water In Fuel light if I recall right.
Great but diesels had trouble back then.....
What about LOT Rot?
+rick d He stated it was stored in a climate controlled warehouse.
Still preferable to the 8-6-4
TIME CAPSULE
I have a 1980 Cadillac broham fleetwood
WOW
Big ass car
im 16 and my parents want 2 by me a new car and i would really like to have this car is there anyway we can work a deal on this car
my 90 deville has 66k all original
is it just me or did he slam THE SHIT outta that hood
I need some parts off that thing for my 77.
Yeah, no. He's right and wrong when he calls it a "second generation diesel." Yes it's a second generation Oldsmobile diesel, no it was not a truck diesel. DX block Olds diesel remedied most of the problems w/ the D block diesels. Same basic motor though. The 6.2L Detroit never was a car motor.
i know of a 1969 catty with 1078 miles it looks like it juat rolled off the lot but looks can be deceiving the engine is in horrible shape
Unfuckingbelieveable car.....very sadly that the Caddy has an diesel. It's very strange combination of ''body style/engine type'' for american luxeury coupe ). Have no words anymore....
Just because you use caps lock doesnt mean your statement is true
NEVER slam a hood shut like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+dshmechanic Why, due to it being a GM?
Guy that knows stuff about cars is selling u a car with 1300 miles... hmmm :)
lowest mileage coupe deville in the world? I doubt that. gm has cars in their museum that have 0 miles on them, because they rolled right off of the assembly line into their museum and i'm willing to bet they have a classic deville with no miles on it in their museum.
SteelCity1981 maybe this refers to the cars actually bought...
How could they justify $18k for that piece of junk in '81? With that GM diesel, that thing would be lucky make it to 50k miles.
Sep 15 is my bday
ill give you 5000 for the car
Diesel? Nah.
diesel, boo
@georgegrasser ...lmao!!!!.
The only problem with this car is that it's a diesel
word. nothing more anti-Cadillac than putting a noisy, smelly deisel in it. Tragic.
You're a mess...lol Funny comment.
Never heard an owner of a dealership sound so much like a "Used car man" - he got so much wrong about this car it was pathetic to watch. GREAT car though, might want to stick to the muscle cars handsome. LUXURY isn't a good place for ya....
If its a 350 diesel... its crap
diesel??...sorry,no thanks..
ITS A DIESEL....NOT GONNA SELL.....
Hey Dan, This car sold 8 years ago. Guess DIESELS do sell
ITS PRETTY SWEET....
Flemings Ultimate Garage how much was the sale price?
