Nice choice of music...some Hapa there... :) I grew up most of my life in Alaska...but originally from Hawaii...I'm back in Hawaii now and miss Alaska. Thanks for sharing your video.

What a wonderful video. Thank you so much for sharing this part of the world with us. And your videos made me feel like I was there also. I even got a bit “nervous” during parts of the rapids. And I swear I could smell the fish roasting. I love Alaska, and am also eager to experience more of it next year.

Alice, thanks for your post. Alaska is special, no matter which part you visit. Have a great trip in '21. I'm hoping to return to the Noatak in '21 and float the river again.

What a great trip. I was going to float the Noatak this year but the virus stuff got in the way. At what point on the Noatak did you experience the worst rapids?

Patrick, I'd be happy to chat with you by email. My email is todlloyd9@gmail.com . The rapids lie between Douglas Creek and the Cutler River, with most of them before Atongurak Creek. Additionally there is a brief section at the beginning of the Noatak Canyon where the river turns left at a high bluff. There's a rapid there with a recirculating eddy that I wouldn't like to get caught up in. You can look at more video I shot if you look at the raw GoPro feeds for 7/31/19 and 8/01 - 8/02/19 further down in my RUclips channel.
The rapids are very river level dependent. I've been down that section of the river twice, and the rapids were really unrecognizable from one year to the next. I didn't see the Cave Rock ledge the first time, nor did I ever see what's called Jaws. But it's important to note that all the rapids are class 2+ at best. Nothing more than that.
Tell me more about your plans. I'm looking to return next year for another float trip. Maybe our paths will cross. All the best, Tod

    What month was this trip--June?

This trip, and the one two years later, both began in late july and finished, one 25 days later, the other 22 days later in mid August. You can't predict the weather, but the salmon run during that time and they're fun to catch and eat. Tod

Hi Tod, this trip looks awesome. A couple friends and I are planning a similar trip for this summer. Would you be open to a phone call sometime to let us pick your brain on best charter flight outfits, etc.?

What type of canoes are those? Did you purchase or rent?

Pete, these are inflatable canoes by Innova. They are the Baraka model, 13 1/2 feet long. We purchased them in 2019 and have used them twice on the Noatak. They are a fine boat for the trip and I would highly recommend them. Here is the website for the company; www.innovakayak.com/
I hope this is helpful. Tod Lloyd
