    I've had a pair of ramps with that type of ends and have used the crapola out of them. The hinges are a clever idea.

    I have a mobile garage, in-progress, in the bed of my 1961 Chevrolet Apache. Your ramp build looks like the perfect ticket to being able to ride my 2001 Sportster directly into its parking stall! Thank You for sharing your video.

    Thinking of trying this out when I buy a motorcycle instead of renting a truck and a trailer.

    Id suggest putting some form of retaining peg on the vehicle end to stop the ramp sliding off whilst loading

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah it came with some and I mention it in the tutorial at the description, but this rental van just didn't have any place to put them.

    Nice job. I use those for getting the snowblowers in my trailer. For me I also attached a 3ft wide sheet of plywood on top of the boards. Makes it bulky to move around but sure made loading trailer easier for me.

    Oof, this reminded me of a time when I had to move my motorcycle with haste and all I had was a rented van and a found piece of wood that was too short to be a proper ramp. Basically I put it down inside the van, set the bike on it, slid the bike back with one of the brakes on so the plank slid with the bike until it was at the end of the van, teetered off it and barely hit the ground with the bike still on it and I released the brake and voilá :D

    The hinges are a great idea. Doubling the width and keeping the boards from sliding apart takes all the thrill out of loading a motorcycle. I wonder if an angle cut on the other end to match the pavement would last or just snap off?

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  5 лет назад +2

      The pavement is so uneven in NYC that I didn't think to bother with the end that touches the ground! Perhaps eventually that edge will be worn down into the shape you describe. The wood is pressure-treated so I bet even a cut end would hold up fairly well, but I don't know if the effort/benefit ratio would work out in my favor.

    Hi! What is the name of that metal at the edge of the wood?

    Converrebbe in qualche modo ancorare le rampe al piano di carico

    Those exposed nuts does not come out very well after all. Next time the it should be sunk somehow. Applying the hinges on the top side can also do the trick (and would make the use of it more convenient), but I understand that by having the hinges on the bottom, the structure stabilizes itself.

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  5 лет назад +1

      Not 100% ideal, agreed, but still more convenient than having the boards unattached to one another, in my opinion!

    Thought about doing this but it would be a pain walking my Harley back down.

      If it works I will be riding my 2001 Sportster up it and down. Careful testing will be in order. 😀

    Adding hinges to tie the two 2x10s together is not necessary and problematic. The boards will not kick out from each other, and I know, since I have these ramps and I've used them for decades. I purchased the aluminum pieces from a company called RAMPARTS. The problem with the hinges is that it makes moving and storing the ramps more difficult because with hinges, the weight one must lift has been doubled AND it is sometimes more difficult to have a place that is big enough to have these already long pieces fit where you want them and you can't separate them to make them fit where they could fit separately, such as a pickup truck bed, van floor or a couple niche places in the garage, due to other stuff competing for space.
