    Sorry I got to throw in one more. We do not want to rely on a one-off result, like leaving Flaherty in too long last time and seeing him get in trouble or even the residual effects of Flaherty pitching like crap the next start and laaving us wonder whether he is going the way of Gavin Stone who was left in too long and turned to shit since, or Yamamoto’s being left in too long and what happened after that?
    We don’t just want to rely on even these three instances this year, there’s plenty of date on this and I remember complaining about this stuff all the way back in the 1970s where even then we had enough stats to tell us that pitch counts matter not just on that night but in future starts as well.
    Today’s game is WAY different, do you see how many pitching injuries we have now in the game and in particular with the Dodgers? Do you see how we need to provide starters with more rest and what happens when we don’’t?
    It is a balance between taxing the pen and the starters and that’s a tough spot to be in, but when we don’t pay enough attention to this with the starters, you have to take them out even earlier and this places an even bigger burden on the pen.
    We’re in serious trouble with our starting rotation right now and trying to force them into taxing themselves even more is not only not sustainable it worsens things.
    I’m no longer confident that we’ll even make the playoffs this year but if we have.a chance we will need to let the real managers decide. Armchair managers can add some good insights but the stupid ones need to be cast off and ignored.

    The Superchat person had it right: Edmund will play center and give Rojas a break at short; and when that happens, Kiermaier will play center (which is why Edmund played those 2 positions in triple A). Four bench players will be Kiki, Barnes, Heywood and Kiermaier. Taylor will not be reinstated until Sept. 1 - and will not be on the postseason roster.

    • @GOAThani
      @GOAThani 2 месяца назад

      @davidrind9545 I would take Pages over Heyward. He would replace Chris Taylor as a righty platoon option against a lefty starter. Lux and Muncy won't play if there is a lefty on the mound, while Pages and Kiki are in.

    • @davidrind9545
      @davidrind9545 2 месяца назад

      I agree but I don’t think the Dodgers would choose a rookie over a veteran; they may have in mind Outman dropping the first ball hit off Kershaw last year that started the downfall.

    They're not taking Taylor over Kiermaier as things stand right now. I rate Kiermaier higher than Heyward also.

    It is not just a matter of whether a starter is “trustworthy” enough to leave in versus bringing someone in from the pen.
    You have to look at the big picture and people easily account for the longer term load on the pen but tend to miss or discount the effect on starters, I’m looking at you Anthony, and we’re already needing to wait for Flaherty to recover from when he was left on too long during his previous start, 110 pitches. Yeah, let’s fo it again and either mess him up more or even see him go on the IL. Are not things messed up enough with our starters.
    The old-school dogmatic belief that teams should maximize their innings with starters was foolish enough in the old days but is outright dangerous in today’s game.
    The only real solution is to extend the roster spots for pitchers, at least one more starter and not one but two more reliever positions. Taxing starters too much so you don’t have to tax a bullpen that teams are not allowed to have the number of arms needed in the new pitch clock era is simply sabotage. Either this or get rid of the pitch clock.
    I’ve been a fan of baseball for over 50 years and I’ve never seen anything remotely like this as far as pitchers going down. This is a problem that needs to be addressed and the idea of leaving starter in longer as a means to improve this is simply idiotic.

    Shaky starters and injuries due to Friedman/mgmnt who consistently gets rehab guys is big issue. Outside chance they win a series this year. What's that 3 yrs now? Start next year with new manager first priority. Pitching clock not good for pitchers health,ie arm.

    I have to pause the video early to say, Anthony's tirade notwithstanding, this game had lots of positives, from the likes of Kiermaier, Kopech, Lux, Rojas, Mookie, etc. Of special note is KK is hitting .375 in his last 7 games. I didn't realize he's only 34, so it's a shame he's retiring at year's end and reportedly due to having to play mostly on unforgiving artificial turf.

  • @a.j.carisse439
    @a.j.carisse439 2 месяца назад

    We did all agree that K’s bat was dead but over the last 7 games he’s hitting .375 with a 1.000 OPS. This isn’t sustainable of course but his OPS is now over .700 in his overall time with us and that included not hitting at all for a lot of it. That Dodger magic may be rubbing off on him a little and enough that he deserves to stay on the roster at this point anyway.

  • @a.j.carisse439

    The pen pitched well last night aside from aGrove and this is what happens when you have a 5 ERA in there, he’s good enough on most nights but isn’t reliable enough to be on the roster. Joe Kelly is another one of these guys, and this stuff is contagious.
    Trying to rest the pen without placing too much strain on starters requires the starters to be more efficient, you can’t force this, but the other piece is that you need relievers who can get the job done when called upon. Grove and Kelly are not on this list. I’m not sure Brasierr is either , he sure wasnt’t when he WOs healthy and it’s only that he’s pitching well inn OKC, no runs in 8 IP so far, that he even deserves a shot.
    Pitchers like Buehler, Miller, and yes, Wrobleski who all have ERAs north of 5 in the monies at this point need to figure out how to get guys out in the minors before they should be trying to do it in the majors.
    This is indeed a performance based game but performances need to factor into things more than they do.

    My takeaway on Wrobleski is that I did not feel that he was ready for an0ther start giving now h’e’d been pitching lately for OKC and he did not surprise. I still like the kid but he needs more work to be a consistent starter in MLB.
    Knack on the other hand hasn’t shown us anything to believe he’s not ready, although we need to get rid of Buehler first to open up a regular spot for him.

    Are they going to DFA KK this close to his retirement? Really?? I mean that's going to look horrible. Specially when keeping Kiermaier for the playoffs gives a better winning chance. Or don't DFA Heyward, option Pages, get him back as a september call up and then simply don't take Heyward to playoffs

  • @a.j.carisse439
    @a.j.carisse439 2 месяца назад

    Thankfully Anthony isn’t the manager, let’s drive our starters into the ground so we can save the pen, you think we’re in trouble now?
    As so want to see starters pitch 6 or 7 innings but it has to be within a resonable pitch count and whe you don’t pay attention enough to this, this hurts you worse than an extra inning out of the pen does.
    Then, you get shaky performances from them, they let Flaherty goo too long last time and now we pay the price for this with a shaky outing and we’re left to hope he can get back on track next time out.
    The reason why I love this channel is that even though I sometimes disagree with the analysis the guys are at least doing some real thinking. Sadly, this does not include you Anthony.

    The delusion that Bobby Miller isn’t washed upright now needs to go. Hopefully the team has learned their lesson after yet another insult. Maybe he figures it out one day, but he needs to be a good minor league pitcher first, maybe he can start over in A ball and find a level he doesn’t stink at and then try to work his way back. We’ve got several exciting young arms, his is clearly no longer on the list.

    Orel brought up pitchers going much over 100 pitches as a sort of arbitrary number, which hit a nerve with me.
    Flahertty going to 110 the last game? Then he has a crappy start and that decision to leave him in that long the previous start probably costs us the game.
    The other 2 notable times we left someone in that long didn’t go so well either. We’re still waiting for Stone to recover, and we’re hoping Yamamoto will as this put him on the IL the very next start.
    Roberts does a good job managing this but mistakes can be costly and we need to avoid this happening again. No more over 100 pitches please. This is not the 1980s anymore Orel. This is a new era, the pitch clock era that is.

    Wild prediction: Just like Muncy was "cured" by a chiropractor, Miller and Buehler will be cured by a hypnotist. Hey, it could happen! Besides, nothing else seems to have worked, kind of like in Muncy's case...

  • @a.j.carisse439
    @a.j.carisse439 2 месяца назад

    I want to start by addressing the comments from the last video that if we lose in the NLDS again Roberts needs to go.
    There are various metrics in judging a manage, but trying to make a scapegoat of him isn’t a legitimate one. Managers can only do so much and if you want to criticize one you actually need to judge then by managerial actions, not a team running cold in a series or meeting a team that is hotter.
    While the playoffs involve more meaningful games, only the regular season provides a meaningful sample size, the outcome of a series is a meaningless one.
    Who we would get to replace him is the biggest question. Miggy Ro isn’t one of the options, he may become a good manager one day but it’s absurd to think we’d toss Doc and put him in the role.
    Thankfully, the team is not so capricious and don’t let whatever disappointment they feel derail their thinking and do something stupid.

    Btw, and tbh, with our bullpen current status I wouldn't be laughing at the Padres trading for Tanner Scott. I wish they traded for him even overpaying, we would have a closer now AND the roster crunch wouldn't be as complicated as it is.

      That’s what I said. Padres trading 3 of their top 5 to acquire T.Scott -is the equivalent of Dodgers 3 of their top 10-20. I mean like wtf is Friedman and Gomes doing?
      Instead of acquiring at least 2 lights out relievers to stop the bleeding in the later innings. They went and traded for old retiring and hurt gold glove pieces. LIKE WHY IN THE FK ARE YOU GOING TO NEED THOSE GOLD GLOVERS WHEN OUR TRASH RELIEVERS ARE GOING GIVE UP BOMBS THAT ARE GOING TO GO 100 FT OVER THOSE DAMN GOLD GLOVER HEADS???? 😭💀

    If they're going to loose anyway a game here and there, at least use those to really rest your bullpen. Leave Flaherty at least 1 more inning, piggyback Wrobleski and Knack to at least have a complete game or start them separately but leave them 6 inning minimum. Edit: ramp up Banda so he can go more than 1 inning, use Honeywell more....DFA Grove!!

    No question marks with Bobby Miller, he’s not the Riddler, there’s no riddle here, he can tpitch at either the makor or minor league level right now, thi is what an 8 REA looks like. Bobby is so bad he makes us salivate over bringing back Thor or Lance Lynn and makes Yarbs and Paxton look like hall of famers.
    Grove on the other hand is more like the Riddler, and the riddle is what happens when you put a 5 ERA guy in the pen? Rhe sneer is that he is good on some nights and blows up on others. Who is this pitcher? It’s you Grove!
    Here’d a real riddle. Away can’t our starters get though 6 innings consistently? It’ s not that hard to solve this one, the answer is that they are out pitching well enough to do it. Only one way out of this riddle, you hope they pitch better. Right now calls for a lot of hoping.
    Maybe Kersh gets us a quality start today and we can start there/.

    It was no real surprise that Wrobo ddn’t pitch well as he hasn’t been doing well at all in AAA since we sent him down. This was a wish and a prayer without much of a chance the prayer will be answered. It wasn’t.
    Thinking Miller, who doesn’t even belong in AAA anymore, will do anything but stink is beyond the power or prayer and in the realm of stupidity. Are we this desperate? If so, say your prayers indeed.
    Wrobo, Miller, Buehler in the rotation? Yikes. None of the above, please. On the other hand Knack continues to impress and might be the best we have at this point in time.

      I think it will come down to match ups for that final spot. If they play the Padres it's Kiermaier. If they play the Phillies it's Taylor. I can guarantee you Rob Thomson will be happy as a lark if he knows that Sanchez, Suarez and Alvarado won't have to deal with Taylor. I don't see a path for Heyward on the PS roster unless they go with 14 position players or one of Edman, Mookie or Teo is injured.
