Alittle Snorkler trivia. A buddy of mine kept his Snorkler and a 4x12 at Westlake when we worked there back in the day. it was the house amp we used on down time. Tracking for AlanisMorissette Jagged Little Pill started and they needed an amp. I rolled that bad boy into the room and I’m pretty sure most of that record was done on the Snorkler. At least the heavy choruses. Just thought “you oughta know”.
Michael you need to compile all the playing demo songs that you did and release an Album, your writing skills are way up there....No joke. Great video as always..
Great video! Bogners sound awesome. I've always felt that the signature of the Bogner sound is in the low mids. They have a lot in common with Marshalls, but the low mids are where they differentiate themselves.
Hi Angus, I’ve been loving your instagram posts! I agree. The Snorker has a less prominent low mid than the Ecstasy *To my ear. But that low mid zone is where the unique Bogner character is
Man your intros / songs are always so damn good! When are we seeing a full in depth re-reviev of the Fish preamp? With some different boosts in front etc❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸🎸🪄🪄🪄🪄 We gotta do whatever it takes to make Reinhold consider the IR-Fish build hey 😎
Hey Michael, any idea what Queensryche used on Here in The Now Frontier? I know it’s some kind of Bogner, I’m especially enamored with the slide tone (as in “Sign of The Times”)…
Thanks Michael! Great video. For some reason I remember being in LA in the 80's and seeing that fish in the store but I cannot remember the store. I wanted one and never bought it.
@@BigHairyGuitars It was in a downtown area in LA somewhere. Not a big box store at all. Is that store still there? Mr. Michael Happy New Year to you and your family, wishing you health and good fortune! May I ask you something? Obviously, when someone stands in front of a cab, the sound will hit them differently, with all the air movement and bass frequencies, right? 😄 We, on the other hand, hear the sound through the microphones, and then you apply some compression and a sort of EQ master afterward, correct? I have the Fractal FM9, which is absolutely incredible (and of course, I’m looking forward to this kind of videos from you), but I can’t quite figure out how to achieve that final result. Should I apply a low cut? A high cut? Your tone has quite a bit of bass and low mids, but it’s compressed and sounds very flat in terms of dynamics. How can I achieve that? Should I use a compressor after the amp block? But wouldn’t that make the comp hit too hard while playing? I don’t want to bother you too much! Thank you again for everything! You’re doing an amazing job, and I’ve been following your work for years! Keep it up! 🙏
I don’t add compression. There is some natural compression when sound goes through the speaker into the mic. Or even more compression if it’s going through the Power Station load box. I also try not to EQ anything. Sometime in the song I’ll add a little top end or cut some bass. But pretty minimal, trying to keep the tones faithful to the amp.
@@BigHairyGuitars The strange thing about all this is that ever since I’ve been following you, you’ve had this wonderful character. What did Jorg hint? I have the Fish and love the Shark channel as is. But I would love it even more if the Strato channel had more gain, as the Brown channel's low-mids don't really do it for me. And if there was a way to include the Triple Giant's Sharp channel (Rust in Peace tone) without taking out the Shark channel, I'd be all over it!

@@andrewraharjo Is Bogner still associated with BAD? I thought they split their ways. I hope I'm wrong, as I'd love to see what improvements could be done to the Fish! Jane’s Addiction and Saigon Kick remind me of each other. Like a photo and its negative. Both the Snorkler and Fish sound killer. I like that they can actually get sort of “thin” and not just big a big wall of sound
Saigon Kick is underrated! I think there’s this really interesting era of rock that was going on right before/during the time grunge was getting big, where rock bands were branching out of the hair metal thing more. Great Video always loved Bogner Amps! I have an Ecstacy Classic and the 3534. What do you recommend for a sub $1k interface that has guitar friendly preamps?
Kind of depends on how many inputs you need. If you don’t need a ton of inputs I live the RME Babyface pro. Sounds as good as super high end converters. Also can’t go wrong with any UAD Apollo. They hold used value well, and sound great. Phenomenal guitar DI on those
Dan Spitz solos rule! How did he get that amazing tonal swirl thing to happen in Hy Pro Glo on The Sound of White Noise? Michael, tube rack pre-amps I've not seen you mention include the single space Marshall 9000 series(which seem unique for their dual band mid controls), and the Mesa Dual Rec Recording, which is stereo. What do you think of them? Can the Mesa with a Fryette power amp deliver the crushing metal rhythm tones of a Soundgarden? Kim has said he used a Tremoverb.
It sounds to me like a Wah into a BigMuff into a Marshall/Bogner. The tone is just trying to stay alive through the pummeling! I showed a 9000 ages ago. I’ll revisit. The Mesa Rec Preamp is great! I’ll do a vid on that this year. There’ll probably be some good recto content coming.

If you roll it off it can be sparkly clean marshally, roll it up and change the mode it can be crazy heavy and it sounds badass the whole time in any mode.
Bogner should do what Soldano did with the X88IR and make a FishBallzIR preamp, I’d buy it instantly
I’d buy anything called FishBallz!
