Amtk 709 and 716 the P32AC-DM's sure did sound great chugging up around the bend and over the hill, respectively. I love those 7FDL motors.
At 2:52, the crew of Amtrak 64 repeated the defect detector over the radio. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone do such a thing. I guess I'm younger than I realize, because I find this very interesting, and a very good idea.
Very nice catch of CSX 8815 and UP 9533 with Leslie RS3L horns, and CSX 8734 with a K5H. I still miss those SD60's.
Another amazing collection of early 00s train watching. Thanks for sharing your awesome historic footage with us.

Calling out defect detectors is a CSX thing. They radio call every signal, automatic or absolute, as well. And 8734 actually had an Acela hybrid K5LA, which is extremely rare and must have been just installed at the time of this video.

@@amtrak706 I guess I need to get my Bearcat radio checked out, because I never year any of the crew call out detectors (but the detector itself will go off) but like you said, I do hear CSX call out most signals. Very interesting nonetheless. Yes, the Hybrid K5LA probably served as a replacement for the RS3L. And whoa, I just realized you already commented on the 8734 too, yet I still put in my comment anyway. Whoops... Thanks for the reply.

12:08 that SD60I has an Acela style K5LA hybrid!! Must have been a brand new horn replacement.
