Tavares (also known as The Tavares Brothers) are a successful American R&B, funk and soul music group, composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers from New Bedford, Massachusetts.
More Than a Woman song information:
'More Than a Woman' is a disco song written by the Bee Gees (credited to Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb for the soundtrack to the film Saturday Night Fever.
The soundtrack includes two versions -- one by the Bee Gees and the other by Tavares. Both versions are featured in the film as well. The song has also been done by various artists but in different forms. The Bee Gees did not release this song as a single (though in Italy it was a Top 10 hit), yet it has remained a staple on radio and one of their best known songs.
An abridged live version of the song performed by the Bee Gees is available on both the DVD and CD versions of One Night Only. The performance is from 1997.
The song has also been included on Bee Gees compilations such as Tales from the Brothers Gibb and Their Greatest Hits: The Record. The very first UK pressings of Their Greatest Hits: The Record featured the song with a mastering fault, with the audio noticeably dipping to the right briefly during the first verse. This was corrected after several thousand copies had been distributed.

TAVARES!! It’s the sound we heard on the radio, and probably more preferred in the clubs... which I was too young for. The Bee Gees were never actually a disco group, but Tavares was. The Gibbs hand selected Tavares for the song, which is a huge compliment to their talent. Additionally, like the Gibbs, they were brothers performing together, who unlike the Gibbs, could actually do some choreography:))) I LOVE the Tavares version!!! It will always be my sentimental favorite.

The Tavares version was a hit and good however The Bee Gees version just seemed to be smoother and a more intimate feeling, plus they did write the song.

hi. i just want to say that there is no better version than the other. it's from two different style groups so it's two different moods but both groups were without a doubt had class and they touched alot of people's live in such a possitive way and that's what it's all about. im one of the tavares sons and even i'm saying no version is better than the other. to set the record straight the bee gees were at a tavares show at madison square garden and they went backstage and as they were talking they told my dad and uncles they had a song written for them and it was more than a woman. my dad and uncles thought it was just talk until they got a tape sent to them in the mail. the bee gees were never supposed to record the song at all but the director of the movie saturday night fever wanted the song recorded earlier than what he stated first because tavares was in europe and they was supposed to wait til tavares got back from tour to record it so the bee gees recorded it first and then tavares recorded it when they got back so that's why both versions were in the movie and on the soundtrack. so technically tavares is the original even though most people say it's the bee gees. me personally i love both versions. thanks dad and thank you bee gees for creating such beautiful music. god bless everyone

There was no offense intended. I too like both versions. I’ve done the “this or that” to various songs on my channel as these are part of the soundtrack of my lifetime. And to that end, I grew up hearing both versions to many songs.

Soooo excited to see your post and personal connection!!!!! I am a huge bee gees fan, and love their version, but absolutely prefer the Tavares version. I think of the Bee Gees version as a demo for Tavares, and honestly think the Gibbs would say the same. I was so excited to see Tavares perform this LIVE with Jason Derulo in 2016 at the Grammy’s tribute to The Bee Gees - still singing and dancing. They were a big part of why I wanted to buy a ticket and fly out to LA!! The Gibbs were songwriters first, and having women, and Icons like Frankie Valli, and Country stars Conway Twitty transform their songs into their vision was even better than singing the songs themselves. Love to Tavares always!!!!

How to compare with Bee Gees? A clear decision. Those days, they dominated the charts worldwide. Another top-ten song, 'If I Can't Have You', given by them to Yvonne Elliman, could also led to a reaction-battle. Who do you think will win?

Bee Gees, wrote the song and gave it to Tavares to release first. they would later release their version in the Fever movie. They also wrote If I Can't Have You for Yvonne Elliman. They wrote Emotion for Samantha Sang , which Destiny's Child covered. . In the 1970's especially, they kept producing hits so fast, they were sharing those golden eggs!!! in the 1980's, the brothers were suffering from Disco backlash, and radio wouldn't play their releases, so they wrote whole ALBUMS for Streisand, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross and Diane Warwick.

Like you I was class of 85. A bit of perspective for me as a
NYC area kid(Jersey side) “Saturday Night Fever” was organic to our 24/7 lifestyle and culture. The Bee Gees wrote all of those songs without the album in mind and the director made the movie to music which is why it flows so well. Letting Tavares sing another version was a stroke of genius because when you watch the movie they danced slightly different to each version of the song…

  • @LizzieRD
    @LizzieRD 2 года назад +3

Bee gees always best. Especially since they wrote the song and suggested the Tavares sing it for the Saturday Night Fever album. The tempo is much more relaxed on the Bee Gees version. I think the Bee Gees version is also on the SNF soundtrack. Yes, just checked.

Both Versions are great. However, the Bee Gee's version has a more Romantic appeal to it.
I can't help but think of Travolta and his partner dancing to this version on the dance floor.
    Another one would be TAVARES vs. HALL & OATS: . . . . . . . " She's Gone "

Have you done this or that to Bee Gees and Al Green How do you mend a broken heart. The Bee Gees themselves liked Al Green’s remake. ❤❤
