Julian “J3PO” Pollack is a Los Angeles-based pianist/keyboardist and producer described by Timeout New York as a musician who “deftly balances virtuosity with tenderness.” Julian is known for his innovative use of keyboards and synthesizers in jazz, fusion, hip-hop, and electronic styles of music. Julian has toured extensively with the legendary artist Marcus Miller, as well as performing and recording with artists such as Talib Kweli, David Sanborn, Chris Botti, Michael League, Eric Harland, and many others. Julian has worked closely as a sound designer with keyboard/synth companies Nord Keyboards, Sequential, and Oberheim, and has created factory presets for the Prophet 5, the Oberheim OB-X8, Take 5, Nord Stage 3 & 4, Nord Wave 2, and many other commercially available keyboards. In addition to these hardware keyboard companies, Julian also has done sound design for Universal Audio (most recently, Opal, a new wavetable synthesizer), Softube, Cherry Audio, and Spectrasonics.

Had no idea there was someone making a new electric piano. Makes total sense that someone would, it just never occurred to me. So sick, and sounds amazing
It's beautiful for me to know that as the original vintage electric pianos start to get a little rare or crumbly, we will still have beautifully crafted instruments like this around. Weird seeing this thing unboxed brand new, I thought they only could be found with 50 years of character.

@@mississippijohnfahey7175 As a young guy who is far far FAR from the financial freedom to be able to drop money on a Rhodes, this was a genuine worry for me too. Very comforting to know Vintage Vibe is around.
@@Astrothunder_ true, but keep in mind if you buy a Rhodes and keep it in good condition it will always have about the same resale value as what you bought it for--maybe more
@@Astrothunder_ I don't know how expensive Rhodes are, but Vintage Vibe still isn't cheap AT ALL. The basic cheapest version costs ~$6k, which for me, here in Poland is... practically just impossible to afford. I would have to save money for it for like 15 years or something. Luxury item. Period. :/

This video is not definitely about the piano which is amazing, but about the player... WOW!!
I love the new Rhodes MK8; but that vintage vibe has a sweet dynamic sound to it. Clean and very clear; not muddy. Vintage Vibe is the bomb! Love it!😌❤️🎹🎶👍🏾
Sounds awesome. However, I don‘t understand why they kept the rounded top of the early Rhodes models which makes it difficult to put a synth on it.
Probably could build a sled to put on it to make a flat top if you wanted it that bad...maybe they didn't like the way it looked flat or something.
I put double stackers on top of mine and the Deep Mind and Prophet 5 fit fine. I wouldn't want my analog synths heating up directly on my Rhodes. Just a thought. Cheers
I think I can ask you a question I watched a documentary on vintage vibe, and the guy was saying they were having problems with some of the magnets being demagnetize. probably put another keyboard on top something about the electrical on the other keyboard may demagnetize.
@@jeffreyreid6981 it's always possible, but I doubt an analog synth placed on top would affect the magnetic coils, or vise versa. If so, that in itself is a major design flaw of this keyboard
@@iam607 as a keyboard tech. I have never found serious heat coming out of the bottom of any keyboard.
The Voice slider is such a cool feature. Stellar playing, as always.

J my jaw has been on the floor since you plugged it in, it's magic, beyond both of our MK1 RetroFlyers if I'm being honest... That's the best sounding Rhodes I've heard, and its not a Rhodes.. Well done VV! Chris is a miracle man 🤯
Love my MK1 hot-rodded with the RetroFlyer though! Thats how I first found out about Julian was while researching the RetroFlyer! I wound up sending my Rhodes (A contractor friend of mine found it in a dumpster!) up to Avion Studios to be lovingly restored by Morgen.

Man that sounds nice. I'm a bit surprised that the keys slap so hard on the rebound. Is your action customized to your liking? I've got the VV key mods on my Rhodes, and I sorta expected this action to be similar

You say Rhodes, but LOOKING t it I saw a Wurlie clone, but it does have it's own voice. Nice. The upper voices stay clear, not tinny like a FR.

Does the sound have the same weight in the sound as a real fender? I was really disappointed with the Crumar Seven, which just felt really flat.
you'd have to do a comparison with a complete.y restored Fender Rhodes to have any sort of decent comparison. Unfortunately, my Fender Rhodes from 1973 has never been touched. so it's super old and funky. Which in certain situations is ideal. But as for any sort of versatile electric piano playing, I'm turning to the VV piano.
How does it glue in a mix? Same as your 73 Rhodes?
Do you have any idea what the difference is between this one and the Matt Johnson one? I mean, other than the color and J3PO logo :D
Is this a custom or a manufacturer board.....
There's something about the overtones on this that I really don't like--it reminds me too much of that late 70s/early 80s Dyno-My-Rhodes sound rather than the warm, less brittle, early 70s Rhodes sound. I wonder if you can still adjust the overtones with screws that align the tine with the pickup coil?
