Canopy masking can be a chore, sometimes I mask the canopy to only paint the horizontal frames then re-mask to do the vertical frames...that way I don't have to stress too much about getting perfect measurements for the corners. Bubble canopies on jets are the worst...that is where the liquid masking comes in.

When lacking motivation, I sometimes force myself to go to the bench and start working. If I get past the first ten minutes, I'm often good for a couple of hours. Also, I have to work on one model at a time, or nothing gets finished. For masking, Parafilm can be good for canopies if there aren't a lot of frames. For newer models, I'll try to find a precut masking sheet.

I think this video sums it up accurately. And your suggestion of easy builds is what will work for me at times.
But another aspect of building is just being able to stay interested enough to stay at the bench longer than 45 minutes before wanting to get away. I find it nearly impossible to spend hours doing modeling in one session, unless it's something I really want to get out of the way so I can forget about it. My typical modeling day is a 30 minute session in the late morning and another in the evening of about the same length.
It's only occasionally about having to wait for paint or glue to dry. I could quite easily pick up another kit I have in work and continue working on that, but I usually don't. Short attention span perhaps?

Well thats ok. 45 min is not bad, and by all means - go and do something else for half an hour or an hour and come back and do another 45 min at the bench. I can sometimes do hours if im in the flow but often i am just putting in those 45 min slots.

All true, I also slow down at one point after the excitement of getting a new kit. A lot of the time I'm impatient because you have to wait to complete one step before going on to the next. Like painting 1/72 pilots and crew, you have to wait for each step to dry. Then putting on decals is the next phase. Kits today are very expensive, and overly detailed which is discouraging. Followed by properly painting then cleaning up the paint and airbrush. Its good to hear that I'm not alone in losing energy and starting another kit before finish it Thanks for sharing, it helps to know that other modelers have the same frustration with crossing the finish line. Cheers till the next video.

I am actually putting in quite an effort this year. Last year i just lost about the whole year by decluttering the garage, selling off a lot of my largest kits and supposedly cleaning up my model room, not that you'd notice. This year is model building full steam

I’ve been building models since the 60’s and never lost mojo. I have many kits on the go as well.
My system is to do something on as many kits as I can each day, even if it’s just one piece, that way when a model gives me grief it doesn’t affect anything, eventually the stubborn kits get to a place where things get going again and soon finished. So it’s do something no matter how small on a kit that gives you grief each day. I like the build process the best, hate the painting but like doing decals.

yip if you can just do a part or 2 , thats perfect to keep some momentum on a model. Great point.

Another great take on modelling. I do get that problem with perfectionism, and watching people build models on youtube puts increased expectations on my output. I just need to get into it, because once I start, I love it. I need to remember that I'm just a novice getting back into something that I enjoy.
Thanks again for the great video.

I've got a B-1A Lancer and Mig 25 on the go at the moment, and a stash of about 25 that I say I need to build before I buy anything else ;) I'm a huge fan of jets and would like to get an F-16' completed, and I have a plan to display my YF-22 and YF-23 together and my X-32 together with an X-35b.

I am trying to finish up all of the stagnant kits I can this year. At some point I sometimes come to the conclusion to toss the project away and always feel better after I do that. Why have it hanging over my head wrecking my enjoyment. Sometimes I wind up hating a model for no real strong reason, the airfix 1/35 M12 GMC is the last one that did this.

Yes sometimes it is legit to stop a model, let it lie on the scrapheap, maybe for a diorama one day.

Start to build new model when You do not finnish first one is a death row. One day You have 100 models to complete.
It is some kind of procrastination, and this is a problem.

I agree, and i certainly have this problem. but it does allow for batch painting and a few other aspects, but yes - tons of half completed models which is not great
