Thanks for watching.
These deck techs with TCGplayer price integration will be done twice a month. Wondering what you think of them?
Hope you're all having a great day. Thanks for watching as always
it's great :3
You should do eternal command
+TheManaSource Love them! And especially the price integration to get a better understanding of the value of unknown (at least for me) cards.
Keep up the good work, wish you the best!
+TheManaSource very nice deck i was wondering could you make a tech deck for commander i want to see a mil dimir color deck and keep up the awesome videos ^^
+BTIsaac It says in the video
new drinking game, take a drink every time wedge says "tcgplayer". you're welcome.
+gmw827 brb ded
+gmw827 yes, how dare they try to make some money from the thing they work at for a living. How dare they get a sponsorship to help support themselves. I guess a better option is the boys work for free making videos so internet trolls don't have idiotic things to say about them.
+Blakklistedd Not ded, Enabled delve.
dullest penguin dude i already said "oh, i dont have a problem with him being endorsed by tcg, or "selling out" or whatever you want to call it. i think tcgplayer is a great business, and i think the mana source is a great youtube channel" and if you read the comments before commenting, you would know that. i also said, and i quote " just starting to wonder if they give him a quota for how many times he has to say "tcgplayer" in the videos. Its rather weird to hear him change his content into a commercial." try reading the full conversation next time you have an interjection.
sinecurve9999 g
Dope video, love it. I especially appreciated the short "how to play/primer" segment towards the end. So many deck videos just cover the cards in the deck but never really explain how they interact or what plays you should make in what order. Would love to see that part expanded in future videos if you feel it's warranted. Thanks for continuing to make such great content on such a consistent basis!
Ah, my first and pet favourite Modern deck. I've been suggesting this as a budget option for ages, so it's nice to see it get some love. Thanks Wedge!
I actually love the TCGPlayer endorsement. And the deck techs!
This has been my favorite Modern deck for the longest time. Thank you for teching this!
I really like how gave an more budget version, thank you so much!
Can confirm. Built the deck after seeing this video. Played it against my friends' modern decks last night. I went 2-1 against Naya Burn, 2-1 against mill, and 3-0 against Eldrazi. I can't wait to try it against other decks.
Thanks!
Hey Wedge
Hey
Hey
Blood Moon in Mono Green Stompy Sideboard.
Whaddya think.
I love seeing budget homebrew decks. I run a mardu colored midrange deck in modern it makes me happy that we don't always have to see one thousand dollar decks
I don't always top deck, but when I do......
It's a miracle
Love deck techs. The inclusion of TCG prices is also helpful. Viable Budget Modern is great, gives me ideas for cards to trade for and slowly build a deck that wont rotate any time soon.
when I first got into modern, this is the first deck I built, tons of fun to play, I loved it!
i just realized that this deck is really similar to my first magic deck ever i built for innistrad standard ... revenge of the hunted won me sooo many games :D great video wedge ... keep up the great work :)
this list really looks my own homebrew budget vintage stompy list. i like it very much, this might even draw me into modern....oooh what a feeling
I have this deck, it's really good fun and as Wedge says can surprise people at FNM :) I run 1 x Surrak, the Hunt Caller main, 5 hasty power turn 4 can surprise people and sometimes close out a game. I'd also recommend some amount of Dismember; sometimes you just need removal and sadly its about as reliable as this deck can have. having 4 tapped lands seems a bit slow as well, this deck really doesn't want to have a turn behind on mana. Good fun INEXPENSIVE deck overall though!
Great vid as always TMS, keep it up :)
Just sold 2 Thruns and an Avatar of Resolute to a guy looking to build this deck on PucaTrade! Thanks for the influence/opportunity!
1. This looks like a ton of fun.
2. Surprising how cheap it is.
3. I already have a lot of these cards from playing green devotion in standard.
4.
LOVE STOMPY. Thank you for the deck teck
Ran a variant of this last Friday, and went 4-0. I don't currently run as many creatures, but I may throw my Thrun into the main deck and snag a few more Scoozes. I also run mutagenic in my build, which usually acts as a 2 life counterspell. Love the deck!
One card I like for mono green stompy stuff is elvish piper. Especially if you're playing stuff that costs more than about 5 or 6 to play. Another couple creatures I like are hangarback walker and it that betrays. Hangarback walker can get bigger just by tapping it. Granted you will have to wait to attack with it by doing so but it works. It that betrays just slowly takes over your opponents board and has a huge body. If you can get it on the field for a single green then why not? It's cmc is 12. It doesn't help with devotion but I didn't see any devotion reliant cards except number of forests. Maybe a couple ramp pieces early game would be nice too just to help get your stuff out a turn early potentially. Especially the good stuff. Why not put a 3 drop on the table on turn 2? It just helps out the aggro that the deck has.
I'd be totally fine if TMS became an all-deck tech channel! These are great. :) Oh but also the lore series. Those are good too. :)
I really like that you guys are doing more deck techs! They are great!
So Modern is Finally coming to my local games store thanks to so many requests we've been hounding the owner with, and I'm going to get to use this deck in a real tournament. I'm very excited
I was playing Stompy at my LGS a while before the ban. The deck is actually really good considering the cost. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants a super-budget modern deck that can actually win a good percentage of the time. I wouldn't take it to a GP, but for weekly tournaments it's a pretty good choice.
now this is a modern deck I can get behind. I gotta get this. and start playing modern. just looking at this deck makes me want to play it.
Make sure to sideboard against Affinity. Creeping Corrosion and Manglehorn. Also dismember is a great include in the main deck. This deck is actually very competitive.
I feel the need to mention that my local game store had a box of Zendikar commons and uncommons, and I got a playset of Vines of Vastwood at 60¢ (15¢ apiece).
AWESOME I love this deck
I want this deck. The only things I would think about changing are finding a place for Predator Ooze and maybe Epic Confrontation.
Really like the deck tech =)
I have a deck very similar to this, though i am a bit more on the devotion theme for a full playset of Aspect of Hydra.
I run Elvish Mystic over the Dryad Militant, Predator Ooze instead of Leatherback's, 3 Nykthos and to refill the hand 3 copies of Warrior's Lesson. "Top" of the curve woul be 3 Mistcutter Hydra and 2 Khalni Hydra. That build allows Avatar to get really big and it can pump out the Khalni Hydra super fast!
Garruk's Companion is also really strong cuz its 2 mana for a 3/2 with trample. Its a great aspect of the hydra target (it's also double green)
yes I was just thinking about this deck this morning
A great card in this deck is Surrak, the Hunt Caller ( usually a 2 of in my experience). It can help in some game steals where the already pressured opponent suddenly can't deal with a 5/4 hasted and angry SUrrak
what would you replace from this list for surrak? I have a few copies.
I've been thinking on making this deck. With possibly throwing in the super ramp legendary devotion land from Theros.
I just happen to have most of this with the exception of the Avatars and Thrun. I think I'll toss it together and give it a spin.
I have the red black eldrazi pingers deck and really liked it. Could you do a budget upgrade with oath cards? Thanks for all the great videos you've been making.
This gets played a decent amount at my lgs actually. Had to sideboard in Hibernation for it normally. Though I'm running Kiln Fiend Hyper aggro atm
Not bad, I'd also suggest adding a red splash for Ghor-Clan Rampager as a sweet ramp/trample enabler that dodges a lot of counterspells. But I guess that might be screwing with the budget part so, you know .D
I made myself a list of this deck 8D (updated for Kaladesh, kinda.)
//Lands
14 Forest
2 Oran-Rief, the Vastwood
//Spells
3 Aspect of Hydra
3 Beast Within
3 Blossoming Defense
3 Rancor
//Creatures
4 Avatar of the Resolute
4 Dryad Militant
4 Experiment One
4 Garruk's Companion
4 Leatherback Baloth
4 Scavenging Ooze
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Young Wolf
That's like...50 bucks, using TCG lowest. And it's surprisingly powerfull. It won't win you a GP or a Protour, butit WILL hold itself against tier 1 decks on your FNM. Have fun :3
This green deck looks sweet. I'm trying to build a modern deck and I'm thinking about a jund soulflayer deck and would like to see your take on the deck.
I think Tangle Golem would be a good budget replacement for Leatherback Baloth, while you can't cast him turn 3 you can cast him for 3 on turn 4, 2 on turn 5 and so on and he is a 5/4 instead of 4/5. Then since you wouldn't be running devotion i would replace Aspect of Hydra with Primal Bellow, which also gives you a good reason to only run basic forest lands (both Golem & Bellow).
I've done a variant of this for my local group, and it's even modern legal. In my case I also ran Boggart Ram Gang and Garruk Wildspeaker instead of Thrun and Dungrove, and Avatar didn't exist at the time. Dungrove seems better for a more midrange strat. Good old fashioned Troll Ascetic might be a good option as well, and now with Collected Company, there is some definite potential here. I can see the use of Oran Riefs and Treetops, but they seem far too slow for a balls-out deck like this. Lots of ways a deck like this can go, and some anti-sweeper cards in the side would be very useful IMHO. Great option for budget, but obviously in this Eldrazi dominant meta if it has any chance to win it has to be blindingly fast or have a means of grossly overpowering or resisting threats.
Howl of the Night Pack might also be a good option. It's a 7 drop, Sure, put a 2/2 Token for EACH of your Forests is amazing. I once managed to get 14 tokens in a mono green mana ramp deck when it was in Standard.
2 of Aspect I assume? I checked, you don't list the count on it in the video when you discuss it.
Aspect should always be a 4 of. He says 3 in the vid, but I think Revenge should just be the 4th Aspect.
The non-creature spells should be:
4 Rancor
4 Aspect of Hydra
4 Vines of Vastwood
Thanks for the tech Wedge! I was planning on building this before to get into Modern, I love green. What are your thoughts (or others thoughts) on using less spells in the deck?
Also note, If you play against Infect you can Vines of the Vastwood their creature to give it hexproof from them.
liked the break down and pro-tips after the deck tech.
I actually watched this on Facebook, but came here to make sure to "like" it. :)
Definitely think Nykthos would be an absolutely amazing way to upgrade to this.
This video is (g)old! Even thought it was released 5 years ago, thanks to new green creature spells, Mono-Green Stompy is still viable in Modern nowadays. Of course, it's a budget deck; only make resulta in FNM kind of event. But that's great! Today we have Pelt Collector, Hexdrinker, Barkhide Troll, Steel Leaf Champion, Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig, Old-Growth Troll and so on!
Would you ever consider running Vigor, even in the sideboard? I understand the 6 CMC is off putting but it has helped me best Zoo and Burn decks in the late game. I tend to use it in a kitschy Elf variant against my friend's Landfall Beast deck.
ok Wedge, got my brain churning once again gotta do some mods to my mono green trample and I think I could give this deck a run for its budget money
I have a question that I hope someone can lend an answer to. As I've only been playing mtg for about 6 months and am still getting the swings of things. That said my question is, HOW does one go about "Evolving" their deck to a better one without changing it completely?? For example, this deck! Love this deck! Is it a good "Move" (so-to-speak) to say, replace the Leatherback's with a set of Pimeval Titans? Or does it not really work that way because the rest of the deck has "lower" mana cost? I guess, how do you know what you should do in comparison to what you can do or what would make sense?? Wedge if you could lend an opinion. I mean the cards $8 a piece so I'd have to assume it can't just be as easy as "This is a budget deck" so that one play set we won't add because you may have to spend a little money on one set of cards. Then again, I could be wrong... Thanks
Some decks can be evolved and others can not. Stompy has a clear upper limit, you do not want Pimeval Titans in this. Thrun, Dungrove Elder, Scavenging Ooze are already the more expensive options. With other decks there is more room, replacing Duress with Thoughtseize for example.
Gotchya! Thanks
Would ad the devoition lands from thereos and cream of the crop. garruk caller of beast can refil your hand and nylea god of the hunt or primeval bounty is pure fun. one worldspine wurm played from garruk is fun as well when you pull it of.
the cards cost about 5 $ each, cream of the crop is only about 2 $ and amazing value if not removed instantly by your opponent.
I would add some Tajuru preservers to the sideboard for against sacrifice strategies (maybe 2)
I'm surprised your not running any hydra's in this. most are on the higher end of the curve but getting one down pretty much seals the game
so, I've been kicking around a scarecrow tribal deck, based around Reaper King. I don't suppose you guys could try a take on the idea? you have to run a lot of tutor effects to be sure of getting either it or something that can tutor for it in the opening hand, but repeating vindicates are fun.
Gotcha. Thanks!
wow this deck seems really strong. Nice deck tech
I have this deck and love it. What do you think about Reverent Hunter? Such a bomb in this deck
What about witchstalker instead of kolonian tusker? dodges bolt and path, grows avatar of resolute, grows as they dismember your other creatures and has the same devotion and only 1,50 each
I love these videos as a not rich person it helps me get into the modern play you should do more of these
i don't plan on getting thrun or the elder. i have the tuskers and i love it. it is such a fun deck to play
What about wilt-leaf liege as budget replacement for the decks top end? It has 3 devotion to green and buffs up your other green creatures. Also fights against discard, if Lilliana is still a thing.
What do you think about this G/W aggro modern deck? :s
x4 Experiment one
x4 Dryad militant
x4 Path to exile
x4 Fleecemane lion
x4 Thalia, guardian of Thraben
x4 Voice of resurgeance
x4 Loxodon smiter
x4 kitchen finks
x2 Brimaz, king of Oreskos
x1 Ajani caller of the pride
x3 Wilt-leaf liege
x4 Windswept heath
x4 Temple garden
x4 Sunpetal grove
x5 plains
x5 forest
I run 2 hardened scales instead of the aspects. makes giest, avatar and the ooze greater than they already are
I've never used TCGPlayer before. If we put manasource in the partner part of the URL, does that help you out like it would on Amazon?
would collected company be good in this deck?
it's a great card for the deck
YAAS
+kyle mitchell I'd mess around with it. Unlike most company decks you're mostly hitting 1 or 2 drops rather than 3 drops, so it's not the best company deck, but that card will get value in a deck like this regardless.
+kyle mitchell
I always preferred Nykthos + Lead The Stampede. Potential 5 cards for 3 mana (always hits at least 2 unless you have really bad luck), so its good hand replenishment, and Nykthos makes all the creatures you hit easy to cast in multiples.
+kyle mitchell I tried it, it`s good but not great. But as a one or two of it`s fine, since people won`t be expecting it ^^
hmm a one of Wild Defiance seems a good addition lol or multiples target it with a pump another +3/+3 for the turn.
This deck seems perfect for an Overrun type effect.
Somewhat new to Modern. Would Dryad Arbor go well with this deck, if budget wasn't much of a concern? At least, not as much of a concern.
+TheManaSource can you update the skeleton deck? Since Champion of stray souls came out, the deck can be stronger
What about Khalni Hydra and Primalcrux? They are a little bit out of the budget cards, but they would be a 4-drop 8/8 trample and a 6-drop 20/20... So they worth it, or am I wrong?
this deck is really fun, also there's a lot if info on this deck and diff. versions if it on mtgsalvation
I wouldn't say the banning of Splinter Twin helped Stompy. We had 6 maindeck answer to twin in terms of 2 dismembers and 4 vines. With it getting banned, only Burn is left that can be called a favorable matchup for Stompy from tier 1 decks.
I love how this thing is considered a budget version at over 100$ when you can get an almost, if not just as powerful version for even less. The one I'm running costed a mere 39€ and consistently does well at FNM.
Please please please post it here.
Richard Wheatley Sure can do:
19x Forest
3x Treetop Village
4x Dryad Militant (interchangeable with 4x Nettle Sentinel from the sideboard if it doesn't do much in game 1 or directly exchangeable if I'm certain the Militant won't do much. Pushes the price up a few bucks, though.)
4x Experiment One
4x Rancor
4x Vines of Vastwood
3x Aspect of Hydra
3x Prey Upon
4x Avatar of the Resolute
4x Kalonian Tusker
4x Strangleroot Geist
3x Leatherback Baloth
1x Predatory Ooze (A bit of a secret tech choice, since it is incredibly hard to get rid of if it ever lands on the field and the opponent has no exile. Has won me a huge number of games with a Rancor on it.)
Last I checked, it ended up around 39€, though with the Sentinels it's probably around 45€.
Have any suggestions for upgrading the deck, Wedge?
You left out predator ooze
GGG for an indestructible 1/1 that gets a +1/+1 every time it attacks and if a creature would die this turn and was delt damage by ooze than put a +1/+1 on it. Its super nasty and slept on.
I was playing 4 of in my Mono Green Stompy, but after some time I have to switch all of them because they're to slow for Modern. Indestructible is nice, but big downside is that it hasn't immediately impact for the game and I need to cut some 3-drop and my Steel Leaf Champions and Dungrove Elders are just better and faster. Look here: tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-mono-green-stompy-modern/?cb=1557866110
It's my actual version of budget Mono Green Stompy.
I haven't played this deck in a while but your list does seem pretty solid. I know what you mean about the ooze being slow im not sure about your meta but i dont get punished a lot for it, plus i run the hydra that doubles counters so it combos well. If im being honest the ooze doesn't win me the games because they focus on getting him off the table its a leatherback with a rancor or the 2/1 haste that close out the games for me.
@@jeffswett4579 My meta looks like bilion aggro decks and one U/W contol and some Trons. Game often ends in turn 4 (sometimes in turn 5 or 6, but sometimes turn 3 or even 2), so I can't afford be slow.
i enjoy playing my Simic Sexproof. it's a simic variant of bogles, and i feel it could be a touch more powerful than the normal version.
+Crimson Vulpes p0st list!
*****
lets see...
4 Gladecover Scoot
4 Bogles
3 Invisible Stalker
--
4 Rancor
4 Boar Umbra
4 Flavor of the Overbeing
4 Spectral Flight
2 Auramancer's Guise
--
1 Voidslime
4 Vapor Swag
4 Mana Leek/Deprive
4 Remand
--
4 Forest
4 Breeding pool
4 Hinterland Harbor
2 Yavimaya Coast
4 Island
-side-
3 Krosan Grip
2 Trickbind
2 Steel Sabotage
2 Neutralizing Blast
3 Gainsay
3 Flashfreeze
+Crimson Vulpes The problem is: It lacks Coronet. You can live without everything else white gives you, but coronet is THE biggest reaosn theplay GW instead of UG.
+Crimson Vulpes Losing lifelink to gain countermagic. I'm not sure especially in this eldorado world.
+Crimson Vulpes
Simic Sexproof......
Yeah, I think I will stick with getting GW Bogles instead....
tcgplayer has always been my favorite place to buy cards
Hey Wedge, do you think you could do a budget deck tech on Waste Not Strom?
What do you think of Blossoming Defense in this deck? Maybe over Hunt or over Aspect?
I love green. you guys made my day!!!
next time could you include possible upgrades to the deck for those who want to take the strategy further?
I play a similar decklist and really like collected company
Huh, That's basically the same as my mono green devo deck. Just replace Thrun with Polukranos, Strangleroots with Burningtrees and throw in a Nykthos and that's it. Though there is some good stuff in this video that I might add or change around.
why not some champion of lambholts? good devotion great effect and with the lots of smaller creatures it grows strong and stops opponents chump blocking your stuff
how about caustic caterpillar as artifact/enchantment hate from sb. Helps with not watering down your deck during board because it can beat in for one until you pop it.
I own like half the cards in this deck, and I have been looking for an alternative modern deck to play.
Instead of Natural State / Nature's Claim I'd suggest Deglamer/Unravel the Æther, mostly because of Wormcoil
As someone who has been playing exclusively commander and does not know much about 60 card constructed play, I am wondering if this a type of deck that wants to be attacking each turn it is able or wait until a decent board around turn 3 or 4??
Love all the dech decks!
Wedge, like the price graphic with the cards, in this deck is there any place for undergrowth champion or thragtusk?
You should do a budget modern tribal elementals deck. Five color.
Talara's Battalion is a pretty good one
Blanchwood armor? Just wondering ... Seems like the thing to have in mono green...
No Reverent Hunter ? That's a 5/5 on turn 3 after a turn 1 and 2. And it also gets +1/+1 counters for the Avatar of the Resolute. I guess it's only a 2/2 on an empty board, but I think the raw power on curve is better.
thanks dude i wanted to try modern, but wasn't quite sure, because the decks are quite expensive! Well not this one obviously!
I just found your channel I hope you come back to.making videos
Bare with me here, and I know it is not really budget, but if we have them just laying around: would you reccomend C.C. being added?
+Hannibal Lecture
Only two cards are over 3 cmc...so yes. Collected Company would work.
You don't need to worry. If a deck runs a creature curve that caps at 3 with 1-2 played at 4, it's instantly playable.
+Hannibal Lecture decent, but surrak, the hunt caller would be better because of only having a couple 3-drops and surrak smashes face.
