  • Lowering my Cushcraft R9 Antenna and mast using a winch. Guy ropes were disconnected at the base of the antenna before lowering.

      Hello. The coax cable is 150 feet of LMR 400.

    i want to do the same thing you have there. i have just one question.....i will be installing a hy-gain av-680 which is the same as the r9. have you had any problem raising it up by just the base of the antenna? seems like it bends alot because its very top heavy and i wouldnt want it to snap. thanks for the video (VE3ZYO)

      Brian Varey Yes, there is a lot of flex in the Cushcraft R9 primarily because it is very top heavy antenna since it supports 80 meters. I haven’t had any issues with pieces snapping when it’s in the down position. The AV-680 probably doesn’t flex as much as the R9. The R9 is attached to an 18 foot mast which might be hard to see in the video. The mast and antenna are attached to a winch and a couple of pulleys. The winch makes it very easy to raise and lower the mast and antenna when needed.

    People need learn how to make videos lol got their cameras like a mile away 🤣 if your gonna show something show it lol also look at your video before posting it so it actually shows what your title is just some advice.
