it was a nice video. I have been thinking of getting on. I lost one on e bay. I won the bid but did not meet the reserve,I was all I was going to bid because the time i paid shipping it was not worth it . the antenna was a year old. I can get a new one for what it would have cost me for a new one. thanks for the video. it kind of show me what is going on. .
By the way, I just built a used one and the connections of the yellow wires at the GAP center PVC is correct. Both of those screws are connected to the center of the coax. Mine works. I need to get it higher (it's only five feet above ground. I'm putting it about three feet above a shed and the square counter poise will be about that distance above the peak of the roof. If I can make it a straight line, like you suggest, it will be much easier to mount. So, what did you end up doing and how did it work. Vee W7IBB
Did your modified counterpoise work? I thought it had to make a square underneath the vertical and the length of the wire going around the four poles determines the resonant frequency of 40 Meters. Seems like you were going to run it our away from the antenna and down your PVC fence. What did you end up doing and how did it work? Thanks, Vee W7IBB
Thanks for your 411 vid, I admit the instructions could be better - they really should make a step by step assembly vid for this complicated antenna. Was that connection on the back side correct after all? It's winter now, but looks like we have a few good days to get this bugger up. It's a bit intimidating, but I hope the performance will be worth it. I've been wanting a GAP for many years, and found a nice deal on a new one on ebay - over 100$ off.
So, were the connections you showed in the video correct? I'm thinking about buying this antenna, but a bit intimidated by the apparent complexity of the assembly of it. :(
It is not difficult to put together. I do suggest getting an antenna analyzer to get the swr set correctly. Borrow one from a local ham or buy one from MFJ etc.
@@johnbesedic9432 Oh, you also mentioned counterpoise. Does this antenna need any or a lot of those? If I get it, I hope to install it on my rooftop and not sure how I can do counterpoises from the rooftop.
@@tglenn3121 There is a couterpoise I used my fence line so that the antenna did not take up so much room. The couterpoise does not have to go around the antenna. Why are you putting it on your rooftop? It does not need to be very high off the ground.
@@johnbesedic9432 I'd rather put it on the roof because it's the only area of my property that I could put with any clearnace. If it's on the ground, the only place I can put it is a very, very narow area on the side of the house.. Which means, I'd have the house within 5 ft of it in one direction and a metal fence and trees within 5 ft on the other side. Besides, I already have a mast attached to the side of the house left over from a previous vertical antenna installation.
Hey Joe Besedic, how about answering the comments and a follow up . That would be appreciated.

I got one used too. Doing my wiring and rod orientation like your video. Sounded like it was correct. We will see. TNX - KD4SIR
Can you do an update video of you antenna setup

My Gap Titan is inches above the ground and works great. Just look at my contacts on my qrz page.
Everybody says that works amazing on 40 meters. What about 20 meters? I'd like to buy it but I'm more interested on 20 than 40 meters. Thank you!

My 40m contacts were great (haven't done much hf lately) running it down the fence line. The other end of the counterpoise is for the 10m band.
I'm putting my GAP back up this weekend.
