In fact, Marilyn wore red until the launch of Orange Lipstick in 1958 by Max Factor. It was a warm red, but it was still red. There are three shades that Marilyn has been confirmed to have used, these were launched by Bésame Cosmetics after extensive research.
She played the disadvantages of cameras of that era just like silent film actresses wore clown makeup to look good on film. Does not matter that their signature lipstick was purple!
Exactly! Marilyn Monroe did none of these tricks, however; her makeup artist Allan Snyder came up with the ideas and implemented them when applying Marilyn's makeup 🤨
The lashes really gave you her exact eyes!! So cool! The shadow under the eye was a brown color if I remember correctly. Marilyn was able to put tons of Vaseline on her face due to her dry skin (she was said to wash her face several times throughout the day because she was scared of acne)
She washed her face twice a day following Erno Laszlo's instructions while using his products. If going out in the evening, she also washed her face before applying evening makeup. So that would be a total of three times for special occasions.
What people are confusing is the 50 rinses after washing at the sink. 30 lukewarm rinses followed by 20 cold rinses. That was a cold, hard rule of Erno Laszlo.
My mother was a real beauty queen back in the day and she had some really cool tips as well. One thing she always said is that your perfume should only be strong enough so that someone gets a nice scent, if they come in close enough for a hug or kiss. If it was so strong that people could smell it in the room, you had put too much on. The make up of past decades may seem a bit dramatic by todays standards, but how they went about it was very feminine and classy. I still wear my Mom's costume jewelry today because it was so classic and beautiful that it is timeless and fits into any style. One more tip that was really helpful, she was a firm believer that you shouldn't wait for an event and then go shopping in a rush. Instead she said that everyone needs certain outfits, to go to a wedding, funeral, brunch, beach ect. So whenever she had a little extra money she would buy these things ahead of a possible event. That way she was always prepared for any eventuality. She also said it was important to have at least one on trend item for your wardrobe. Women of that era didn't have a lot of clothes, but what they chose was tailored and fit well and then they styled it differently and gave it a new look through the years. It really was a completely different approach to fashion.
Our mothers really knew how to dress and behave. We daughters lost those skills. It’s nice to see our daughters, the age of this pretty model, fuss over their hair, makeup, and clothes!
I really like this approach and attitude to clothes and fashion, as you wrote. In fact, I even regret that now, because of such an abundance of cheap and low-quality clothes, so many natural resources are being spent on garbage. and fashion for everyday life has lost its value.
