Alice Cooper - 30% of what you have heard about me, or Marilyn Manson, or Ozzy is true. Everything you have heard about Keith Moon is true, and, you only know a 1/10th of it. LOL
For my very 1st concert, I went to the Super Bowl of Rock...Keith Moon & the Who, with their soon to be outlawed, laser show. There was no going back after that that full frontal, Union Jack Attack!!!! No rock band could touch them live, especially when considering the uniquely, dynamic personalities that comprised the group. Then there's that staggering catalogue of highly diverse sub-genres; early proto-punk, rock opera, pre-heavy metal, stadium rock anthems, pop rock hits, auto-destructive rock, mod rock, etc.. But the biggest factor in a live setting was their cutting edge, stage show, featuring the most ecentric mix of rock mavericks ever assembled; Mad Man Moon, Thunderfingers himself, John Entwistle, one of the genres, greatest front men & singers, Roger Daltry & the creative genius and guitar windmill, Pete Townshend.
I could only imagine seeing The Who live when they were firing on all 8 cylinders in their prime. No rock band could ever have touched them for sheer raw power, intensity, irreverence, angst, bluster, and explosiveness. They were the shit, and ANY rockers of the day would have known it. None of the guitar greats with their soloing abilities could ever generate the power and intensity of Townshend, no matter how hard they wanked their axes. He knew what he was doing- he played the fuck out of those rock anthems of his, and the fact that he deemed guitar flourishes and embellishments as outside his spectrum, instead leaving that to a powerhouse, fully overtone-savvy bassist in Entwistle, and a hurricane on the drums in Moon, distinguished The Who as a force to be reckoned with. Daltry rose to the occasion because he had no fucking choice! Together, in their prime, they were unstoppable!
@@leematheson3887 Exactly‼️ I particularily like the points about Pete knowing his strengths, (including the rest of the band), arming his batallion, knowing the enemy may have extra bullets, but their heavy artillery was aimed closer to the heart. That the proverbial battle cry would have to rise to the occasion. ♡ In retrospect, Townshend felt Tommy was Roger's graduation party. Many have their musical bias & tastes, but when you remove these factors and historically look at the who's who of the genre and ALL the collective components of these legendary groups, one group stands at the top, in a LIVE setting. The individual members of that ensemble, freakishly quagulated like The Rock Alchemist's grand formula, the stars had truly aligned! Other bands had their distinctive strengths and abilities, but NO other group can lay claim to ALL their stylistic trends, being in London at that specific time, Kingpin's of the initial British Invasion's ever expanding vocabulary, with it's leading mastermind, formulating his epic pieces. Their performances spread the new doctrine to that generation in the most bombastic, transformative vein. Jimi, himself, took it to them at Monterey, sacrificing his guitar, taking Pete & Jeff Beck's feedback & amplification wizardry to unchartered realms, adding his virtuous showmanship & stageshow...regardless, the Experience were no match for the collective, Who. ☆ He won a few battles, but the Who are still fighting the War👍
@@leematheson3887 The Who were so formidable that they stole the show with only one song (well, it was a suite of several mini-songs) at the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, and Mick kept the footage under wraps for decades!

Little Steven had a segment where he talked about Keith. He told of Alice Cooper recounting the shooting of "Sextette."(now there's a movie I wish was easier to find on DVD. Ringo was in it, as was Keith, Alice Cooper, and more). Supposedly, Mae West was trying to get all the male actors in the film to go back to her dressing room with her.
