The crowd around me were really into it (and I was too!) & given their relatively eary time slot (1:40pm) I thought they went down really well. I certainly heard people talking about them as one of their discoveries of the festival.
While The Struts are out touring with the Foo Fighters at the time of writing, this was actually a festival appearance separate from the FF tour; but yes, the crowd is not necessarily there to see them. At this point, it was over 5 hours away from the headline act (Guns N' Roses) appearing, and this was day 2 of a 3-day event. Even so, they got more out of the crowd than a lot of bands do in that sort of time slot.
Yeah I was there, didn't know they existed until before I saw them. And I was going nuts by the end of it. So I can say it was much better a reaction than this shows. Especially for the slot like others said.
I'd agree with the replies here, it was early afternoon and I for one was really, really impressed by the Struts (and I know my mates were too). I'd never really heard of them before that day, and on the strength of this pretty short festival set, I've just bought tickets for 4 shows on their UK tour next February! So yeah, the blonde on the barrier blowing her nose because she was feeling like crap, WAS having a really good time, I promise!🤘🤧

When people complain that new popular music is shitty and there's no new rock, etc. Then you see and hear this, it's fucking great, aaaand the crowd reaction at the end of the song could best be described as "polite". C'mon folks pull the stick outta yer butts, we got kids growing up listening to Queen and Zeppelin and the result is The Struts and Greta Van Fleet, and who knows what else coming down the pipeline but I'll take it! I'm 45 years old and I still think at least some kids wanna rock :)

Like the glam rock look. I think I know the problem with the audience. Download Festival is in the uk. Watched an interview with David Grohl. He likes them said they weren't popular in the uk where they're from but were really liked in the usa. That's my guess.
I'm 100% with you on that I really dont like their studio albums just because of how over produced they are they are a good band just need to lose that poppy sort of production
