    What an absolute beautiful video.

    I enjoyed every minute of it.
    After trekking the Annapurna Circuit in 2012, I will return to Nepal in February 2025.
    I am planning the Jiri to Lukla way and then to continue the Three Passes.
    Hope I have the strength to do it (57 year old lady - somewhat fit)
    What time of the year did you do your trek???
    Thank you again for the wonderful video.

    35:07 those lodges further up are not "base camp" lodges but Dairy Lodges. The first lone Shangri La lodge is the "BC" or High Camp lodge. Jasmane Bhanjyang is not any kind of Base Camp for anything, I dislike the BC attached just about anything now, unless we really are talking about climbing and camping.
    In other ways really nice video (without a talking face filling the screen 80% of the time...).

    • @ecoodysseys
      @ecoodysseys  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching. Historically Pikey BC was known as such - in the past trekkers probably camped because there were no lodges - and most people hike up to Pikey Peak and back down to the same location, so I guess they are treated like a "base camp". In fact many places just before high passes in Nepal are also called base camp or high camp.

    • @tapioportimo2551
      @tapioportimo2551 6 месяцев назад

      @@ecoodysseys No, they are not, this is a recent development. The foot of the pass is called "Phedi". There were no "base camps" before climbing became fashionable. As first Everest Base Camp became quite firmly established in trekking circles then Annapurna Sanctuary started to be called "ABC" the "BC" label has been stamped on all possible lodge clusters below some particular point. Like "Tilicho BC" or now this "Pikey Peak BC". Nobody has ever camped in those places planning to attempt to summit Tilicho Lake or Pikey Peak. It is all stupid marketing jargon trying to use the adventure aura of "Base Camp" for financial gain.
      Very few people bother to hike up from Jiri just to summit Pikey Peak and turn back, I bet almost all continue either to Jumbesi or Salleri. So nobody returns to the PP BC lodge, or the Dairy Lodges either. So there is one less reason to call them "BC", they are just lodges like any else.
      (I have walked the Jiri - Namche route 5 times since 1985 and also Dhap - PP - Jumbesi, so I am somewhat familiar with the area. I also stayed at the Thupten Choling monastery overnight when visiting the place in 2024, also crossed straight from Dudh Kund lake to Ghat, which has been done by only about 5 foreigners so far).

      Hi@@tapioportimo2551. Pikey was not known to the world until probably 5-7 years ago. When I attempt it, it was quite rough (not so much as Numbur Cheese- shh...) and we had to camp! no lodges, and it was also snowing on the night before our ascent the next day to the peak! Well, your explanation about BC makes sense too. I can confirm that Pikey BC was not familiar to my ears back then! Haha... I did remembered the very beautiful valleys near Bhandar and we had rakshi and dancing with the singing through the night!

      @@turgonmiyantur5974 A friend of mine did make the detour from Lamjura La to PP some 20 years ago, but that was not usual then, even now most trekkers coming up from Jiri/Shivalaya/Bhandar direction just pass by, even though there are now several lodges making the climb easily possible with maybe one extra day added. I visited PP in 2018 from Dhap on my way to Dudh Kunda lake and then straight to Ghat - Namche over the high ridges.

      @@tapioportimo2551 For all practical purposes, everyone calls the lodges Pikey Base Camp. As is written on both paper and digital maps.
      We’re not in 1985 anymore arkienkeli. There is however a cheese factory just above to Ngaur.

    Thank you so much for sharing very similar experience of the past (at least, for yours truly)! Was surprised that Pikey connects both Jiri, enroute to Lukla. Jiri's start was encouraging, right before the crowd after Lukla. Pikey peak was more barren and rougher (without signs!) and only camping back in the old days.. (did that separately over a few years apart) Actually, I halted at Monjo village just before Namchee where I need to pay to go on! Unsure if I can afford the high cost (that time), the return to Lukla was necessary. Haha, I didn't have the luxury to fly away like Talons in the sky! So I went back to Jiri, and Salleri and jeep back to Kathmandu city; yes, more days but it was the adventure of my life (with a Sherpa guide). Junbesi was mesmerising when snow falls! And you also visited Thupten Choling! A very rare excursion, well, it was more rustic and less ornamental when I last remembered its enchanting pathways up the serene monastery. Wow! You had such a wonderful time with the monks there :) Your narration and choice of ambience coupled with ya vids (I wondered, how did you know all the details of stuff you saw, happened or pointed out on your own? Ya research is surely thorough and interesting!). Thanks again for bringing back all my 'lost' memories, many that I can reminisce and cherish about. Salute and respect to you! :)

      Thank you for your kind words. Pikey is a slight detour if coming from Bhandar (most people go to Kinja and Lamjura La), and ita popularity has resulted in well-constructed trails and lodges around it. It must have been quite an adventure when you went.

      Thanks for watching. I was not enjoying the section once I hit the main trail. I like places without many tourists, and the Everest region was a bit too commercialized for me. My main objective was to experience the culture of the villages along the journey. I had also hurt my knee trekking in Kanchenjunga earlier, otherwise my alternate objective was the 3 Passes. Maybe I will return to do that another day. I do not really have an objective to go to EBC as I have trekked to EBC North in 2001 and the view of Everest from there is magnificent.

      Precisely!@@ecoodysseys My guide (and dear friend) didn't quite understand my detour as well. Haha.. I guessed what we had seen after Jiri until Lukla was way more interesting than reaching to the EBC! Cost and tourist and probably donkeys (and dungs) may ruined the adventure part of a personal odyssey!
