  • In this video I show you how to modify an old Bachmann HO scale Gandy Dancer for use in HO and On30 rail projects. This small motive power will suffice for a small scatch built project that is only limited by your imagination.
I share with you a few projects that I have completed.
And I have more ideas in the works.

Thats a very cool idea.. I have a Gandy Dancer but will look for another as I think all model train sets need a few different trains from time to time to run around the track.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of using the Gandy Dancer for these! That's definitely an easy way to power those small speeders.
I powered one of those Jordan 15-ton kits a while back using a slightly modified Bachmann 44-Tonner truck (old style). It was a tight fit, but it works!

That is cool what you did with the 44 Tonner truck.
The Jordan Mack 15 Ton kit had a small notation at the bottom on how to modify the Gandy Dancer to fit the 15 Ton shell but more carving was required and I shoe-horned the light bulb in there. Next time I might use a micro LED... if there is a next time. Some people like little critters so there may be a next time. LOL!

What about a DCC decoder and Keep alive?

Marten - The size of this is would make fitting a decoder inside impossible. I have in some cases, added a passemger car behind a locomotive to wire additional features. I do not use DCC or keep alives but that would be a cool feature.

Where can I get that wood style top?

Steve - The fully enclosed wood speeder in HO was 3D printed. I only had 2 ordered but trying to get more printed.
The larger, open wood speeder is in On30 and the video featured my original scratch built speeder from wood and styrene. I have since created a 3D design of it and we are doing test prints. We need to finish the roof before we can offer those.
