I found the segment with Kageyama-san honestly quite touching. I'm glad he could see the impact his work had on people and even happier that it rekindled his passion.
Masashi Kageyama (the composer from Gimmick) is the sweetest thing I've seen all week. Really made me want to hug him. Thanx, Red Bull, for this series. Can't say I like your drinks or marketing particularely, but some of your efforts in the world of arts and sports are just fantastic. Good job on unearthing some of the composers in this docu series, too. Splendid job.
This is such a great and cool idea for a documentary. You guys must have known the audience for it couldn't be that enormous but went ahead and a kick-ass job anyways. Just wanted to say thank you, and I hope the team that put it together can see that their work is appreciated!
The men and women who made games back then are supremely underrecognized for their craftsmanship. A man as supremely talented as Kageyama-san deserves a lot more recognition than he has, both at home and abroad, because Gimmick!'s soundtrack is one of the greatest scores I've ever heard in anything, not just video games. It's amazing stuff, by an amazing dude, I wish I could send him a hug!
Ow man, Gremlins 2 and Mr. Gimmick soundtrack are truly master pieces! Not to mention Castlevania's.... It's very nice to see the feelings and inspirations Gimmick composer worked on his songs. True sensitive work of art, with very rich meanings!
I like how these composer are so dedicated in there work even though they're sorta of that behind the door people, which is a shame like the gimmick composer who ended up quitting. Though good thing stuff like this makes us more aware to video game music which is goood.
MoriyaMug Lagrange Point uses the Yamaha YM2413 FM synthesis sound chip, which was previously used in the Japanese Sega Master System and is a predecessor of the Yamaha YM2612 FM synthesis sound chip used in the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
That's probably because the chip used in Lagrange Point, Konami's VRC7 chip, had audio capabilities heavily based on the Yamaha YM2413, which is an FM synthesis chip. The Genesis/Megadrive used a Yamaha YM2612, also an FM chip, which was also commonly found in Sega's arcade games. A lot of FM synthesis stuff sounds identical/similar. It sounds out of phase. Whether that's because they mixed down wrong in the export or screwed up something in post I don't know... Hilarious newbie error.
Okay we only have time to do one take, don't fuck it up. "Contra? I mean come on. The.. um.. illest.. It-.. too ill. Action! Gets you.. hyped up..." UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
***** Actually it has the feel of a reggae track, but has the sound of dub step with the sound chip producing a synthesizer sound and the sampled drums. So in a way it makes sense Jagged! I mean what are dub step producers using today? Synths and sampled drums. Case in point!
Can anybody possible link me to a Video that Masashi Kageyama (Gimmick!) was reffering to about his Msuic being played live? I can't find any! >___< Thanks!
This is so far out of left field for an energy drink company that it feels wrong. I don't know what scheme is being cooked up but I don't like or trust it.

I'm the translator of English sub. If you read it and felt something from it, it is my great honor.

The Gimmick composer seems like a really nice guy. And he looks like a Japanese Freddie Mercury, so hey, bonus.
He might be a Freddie Mercury fan?
Mr. Masashi Kageyama is a very nice guy.
"When you reach a tricky stage"
For Gimmick that's the entire game
"For Children"
Getting those hidden relics was so hard and. It was so worth it though, what a beautiful game
Masashi Kageyama was probably one of the greatest composers of the NES era
The men and women who made games back then are supremely underrecognized for their craftsmanship. My favourite track from Gimmick, sadly didn't make it into the game. You can hear it on RUclips, though. It's called "Strange Memories of Death".
My right ear feels so neglected
I’m so thankful for soundchips for existing,
Without them, there would be no music in games.
That gimmick track Sophia is DOPE
I like how these composer are so dedicated in there work even though they're sorta of that behind the door people, which is a shame like the gimmick composer who ended up quitting. Though good thing stuff like this makes us more aware to video game music which is goood.
That Sunsoft bass! Truly amazing sounding in games like Journey to Silius!
The Gimmick tune Happy Birthday is one of the best tunes ever on NES. It's stage 1 of the game. The game is super cute too. hahaha.
The others are better
the other themes are WAY BETTER WAY BETTER
@@sluggy68 😐 (?)
I'm really glad they put some stuff from Gimmick in the Famistudio demos as a tribute to that masterpiece.
i would love to hear another game ost from kageyama-san, with the current landscape of games it'd be wonderful to hear him make another one
I love the cinematography of this series!
The Konami part made me teary eyed hehe, lots of memories.
Damn, that Lagrange Point music sounds kind of like something that would come out of a Genesis.

Well, that's neat. I didn't know there was a VRC7. I always thought the VRC6 was the most advanced NES expansion sound chip.
I think if I'm correct those chips where first used in the Namco and Atari motherboard arcades?-Paz
5:48 the most beautiful moment in this episode
Thanks for fixing the subtitles
This is a really interesting series
yes
The stereo panning sounds wrong, more on left... on a documentary about music. Could you fix that, Red Bull Music? Thanks!
It sounds out of phase. Whether that's because they mixed down wrong in the export or screwed up something in post I don't know... Hilarious newbie error.
The NES only output mono.
I'm talking about the sound of the documentary, not about nes.. still weird panning.
sanderstrebor yea, they did this on purpose right? hahahaha
Okay we only have time to do one take, don't fuck it up.
"Contra? I mean come on. The.. um.. illest.. It-.. too ill. Action! Gets you.. hyped up..."
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
i love this type of documentaries! thanks red bull ;)
If real life had an 8-bit soundtrack there would be no depressed people
Gimmick is so goooood
That "Sophia" track from Gimmick almost sounds like a proto-dubstep track (but without the annoying brostep sounds).
No it doesn't.
*****

Dubstep is annoying as heck
Sounds like rap
Time stamp: 10:50
Omg, thank you for this. I absolutely love Sunsoft, I can't believe I can finally watch interviews with them
I was kinda hoping that "Good Morning" would be played during the interview.
Same
FUCK YEAH CASTLEVANIA IS THE BEST SO HARD BUT SO ADDICTIVE AND AMAZING THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH
Can anybody possible link me to a Video that Masashi Kageyama (Gimmick!) was reffering to about his Msuic being played live? I can't find any! >___<
Thanks!
I'd love to see this too. I did manage to find a couple of other live performances and covers though.
This is pure gold! Thank you so much!
Why have I not already seen this? Lovin' it...
There´s a problem with the audio on this one.
*****
You can also watch it on their own website though, where the sound is fine.

5:27 Konami VRC7, that actually had 6 FM Channels.
Man I wish jun chikuma was on this one
Talking about Sunsoft music and no Naoki Kodaka? How???
we need to save theses vidéos
Konami and Sunsoft were truly the best.
The NES was a great console...
In the captions I get "French, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish", no English
Very great!!!
No english on the subs. Can this be fixed please
Now English subs are available.
Wow, great documentary.
What is the name of the plants at 12:02?
It's tea plant (you know, black tea or green tea. THAT tea). Shizuoka, where he lives, is famous for tea production.
2:01 - Stole my bike. Nigga stole my bike.
The name of the theme at 15:14 plz :)
That comes from Hebereke (Ufouria: The Saga).

Unforgivable! You have forgotten MSX SCC music ...
