Often called “factory hot rods” because of their resemblance to production-based automobiles, Pro Stock cars are some of the most technologically advanced machines in drag racing. Built around a sophisticated tube chassis and four-link rear suspension, Pro Stock cars must conform to precise measurements and weigh no less than 2,350 pounds. Pro Stock engines use electronic fuel injection and spec gasoline and are restricted to a maximum of 500 cubic inches. They can make in excess of 1,300 horsepower. A competitive Pro Stock car can run in the 6.5s at more than 210 mph.
Pro stock for me is king category in drag racing. Love it.

Just nothin like PROStocks..in 2004 I went to the U.S NATIONALS..I really wasn't a drag racing fan..but as soon as I got there..and cracked open a Cold Beer the PROStocks started qualifying..I was absofukinlutly hooked...loved them every since

Todays NHRA Pro Stock has relegated me to watching 1980’s-90’s reruns of all the great races. Thank goodness they are available. The competition then was just as close and it was the most expensive form of drag racing there was. But the drivers worked on their own cars and an Olds was an Olds. And a Ford was a Ford. Of course all the cars at the dealers look alike now. Why not Pro Stock? Maybe that’s the thinking.
Been watching drag racing since 1960 and think I know what fans like to watch. First, put the carburetors and hood scoops back on Pro Stock. NOBODY cares about EFI and humpy hoods. And do ya want more fans to fill your half full stands? BRING BACK MODIFIED ELIMINATOR! MAYBE SOME EARLY GAS COUPE/SEDANS! TRY IT NHRA! What you’re doing now ain’t workin! And maybe, just maybe some blue collar folks, like myself who are purchasing the majority of event tickets, could afford to watch and even race in some non-professional classes. Anybody listening?

Spot on. Is efi cheaper? Don't tell me no scoops make them look more attractive, they don't, Hood scoops are Drag Racing! One more thing, No one wants to see 16 Camaros is race each other

Nothing in the NHRA leaves the starting line like a Pro Stock car. They're like slot cars.
Yeah except top fuel and funny car
T/F and Funny are obviously faster but, when they leave the line they buck and kick. Pro Stock cars just go.

No but they 60 foot about as fast they run 6.5 at 210 for the fast cars and pro mods run 5.5 at like 250
Sadly I don't think they plan on changing pro stock anytime soon as much as people want it to happen.

Definitely. I just came from a "Glidden vs. Shepherd" video by CompetitionTV with footage of pro stock cars from 1980. They said the class required you to actually start with an actual production street car and maintain the look of it. This is totally different. Mostly its just the paint that resembles the street car.
I covered the 1981 Cajun Nationals where Glidden & Shepherd battled. I have lots of great pictures from that era, Pro Stocks specifically. Glidden was running the Fairmont & Lee in the Camaro.
I came on here to say the same thing. Really miss real car racing. Nascar doing the same thing now. Losing identity of the manufacturer.
Pro Stock? My Ass! They look like Funny Cars! Nose is too long, The Rear..... well, I don't know what to make of that Monstrosity! At least make them look Stock! You know.... something you would see on the road or maybe even your own car. Miss you Bob Glidden!
Is every single pro stock a Camaro? I’m a Chevy guy but these cars are kind of boring when they are all the same!

I watch the whole thing and missed whatever 210 mile an hour run there was. I didn't see a single one.
compared to Super Stock Pro stock is boring AF!!! Everyone one of these cars looks exactly alike. The only thing different is the paint. In Super Stock every car looks like they did when they left the dealership with the exception of the 14.5 inch back tires. Not one of these Pro Stockers ever seen a dealership which boils down to cars that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to build.
NHRA is losing viewers by the boatload.
I lost interest when Pro Stock quit having real, stock, steel bodies. I have no brand loyalty to Pro Carbon Blob with Manufacturer Grille and Sticker Set Number Five on it.
No one cares about Pro Stock.
Here's a better idea: bone stock cars, fully loaded, with air conditioning, full interiors, power windows, everything.
Modifications:
Tubs
Wheelie bars
Monster scoop
Roll cage/tube frame
Naturally aspirated engines of ANY type that came with at least 2000 of the cars. DOHC, SOHC, OHV, Hemi, Porcupine, Blue Crescent, Wedge, anything they have sold 2000 units of in that body style WITH THAT OPTION PACKAGE WHICH MEANS FULLY LOADED.
Same weight
No other limits on engines other than "gasoline."
Build brand loyalty again.
Oh, and any induction system they care to use. Injected, injectors, carbs, direct injection, whatever.
No rev limits.
Then, have the factory teams, (this means Ford, GM, Chrysler, ONLY) go around the country and "pick fights" with anyone who wants to run. ANYONE.
Also, compete in NHRA and IHRA Pro Stock classes.
Sponsorship graphics and decals can cover only 10 percent of the car body.
If they had wings on 2000 of the cars, then they can have that exact same wing without any alterations.

The present cars may as well be alien spaceships. No attachment to anyone or from anyone. Blow-molded things that look like they may have dropped from a shark's egg-layer or a dog's butt.
Like someone else here already said pro stock is " boring. " I prefer Pro Mod

Ford’s and MOPARS are welcome but they all stayed home because they can’t compete.

Pro Stock has become a joke. All the same make and none of them are anything close to looking like a street car. Much like NASCAR NHRA is dead!
