Is This Wagyu Steak Worth $240?

- We tried a 16-ounce, $240 A5 Olive Wagyu rib eye from Crowd Cow, an online meat distributor and the first to import Olive Wagyu to the United States. From the moment we unboxed the steak it was obvious it stood apart from the others, but was it worth $240?
Olive Wagyu gets its name from the toasted olive peels ranchers feed cattle. "Wagyu" literally translates to "Japanese cow" and there are some 300 brands including the most famouys, Kobe.
Olive Wagyu cattle are raised on a small island in Japan called Shodoshima, which is famous for its olive oil. Cattle farmer Masaki Ishii developed the breed as a way to use the by-product of olive oil production as cattle feed.

Is This A5 Olive Wagyu Steak Worth $240? Развлечения
At what point does it stop being steak and become a slice of fat
Whenever you want to start putting your health first. Before that, it's all fair game
right before they slaughter the cow. they're reeeeeeal nice to it up to that point. & no, I'm not a vegetarian. I just find the way they talk about the cow's lifestyle humorous. "To Serve Cow." for dinner, that is.
When it starts getting described as 'buttery', or 'wax coated your tongue'.
@@TheRybka30 Agreed. To me it's a pretentious piece of meat. Like bottling a fart on the moon, than selling it as a fresher, more expensive alternative.
Yeah, this doesn’t look appealing at all.

So if wagyu means 'japanese cow'
Then japanese wagyu is japanese japanese cow :|
MR. Lobster so why is it called American Wagyu when wagyu means Japanese cow 😂
Japanese^2 Wagtu
Japanese² Cow
Yup
It’s just to tell the cow was born, fed and killed in Japan.
You can hear sometimes « American wagyu »because Japan exports some young cows every year, and these cows are fed and killed where they were exported. These countries try a mix between the traditional Japanese breeding and their own. Hence the different marbling and taste. Japanese wagyu A5 is too fat for me. A4 is perfect.
My mother once made a steak that literally melted in my mouth
she forgot to defrost it...
But were your arms heavy?
Knees weak?
vomit on your sweater already?
Mom's forgetting?
And he’s choking
I had A5 Waygu beef at Kuromon, Osaka and it was great. The problem is now it ruined all subsequent beef afterwards. Now a ribeye in prime grade in US tastes ok.
Not sure I want to experience something that will make me stop enjoying prime rib as much as I do.
Tried A5, and everything is meh afterward. Ok is like super quality already
dude, kuromon at osaka is a tourist place. wait till you go to the REAL LOCAL-style A5 Wagyu beef place. I never really spend on food anymore in my home country, I just eat for sustenance and wait till I go back to Japan again.
You cant eat a5 wagyu like a prime. Its just too rich and fatty.
@@AbsoluteFidelity
Personally I'm not fan, it's way too rich for my taste buds, it's heavy on the palette and has a very fatty/greasy aftertaste. When I first tried it I was blown away but my boss who with a little alcohol went nuts and kept the very expensive meat coming, I instantly got sick of eating it after a few bites. I know I'm going to get flak for this but I find AAA Canadian Prime Rib Eye Steaks to be just perfect in consistency and flavor, they're also pretty cheap at 12 x 16 oz steaks for $130USD.
I'ma cover a stick of butter with steak seasoning. Then bite a nice chunk out of it. No need to spend 240$

Tajima beef won last year. But that's only because Matsuzaka didn't join. Matsuzaka is pretty much the best that they probably don't care about wagyu competitions anymore. However, Matsuzaka beef is something like national secret, you need to get a local to guide you to one. Otherwise, you'd just get beef grown in Matsuzaka. There is a difference in quality between Matsuzaka Beef and beef from Matsuzaka just like how there's a difference in quality between Kobe Beef and beef from Kobe.

Honestly it's fine because he's speaking English. There's nothing wrong with pronouncing properly a word while speaking a different language to it, but it's kinda silly to correct people in this context imo especially if there's no comparable English version of the word. It's like if a Japanese person is speaking Japanese and says "pinku" and you correct them with "pink".

I've been sitting here watching videos of people eating wagyu beef for like an hour now and I'm drooling and should probably go to bed
It's exactly what he said. Olive wagyu is a one bite wonder. After the initial bite, it gets disgustingly greasy and rich.
Even the A3 he mentioned is too much to enjoy as a steak.
The American/Australian wagyu is your best bet for a tender beef that you can keep eating day after day.
exactly lol when i was a kid, because i lived in a place where we got access to different kinds of beef around the world. used to love wagyu, you name it i probably ate it. but now a days i prefer angus beef over any wagyu. wagyu beef imo if you eat it often enough it gets sickening.
@@drkInxgud I know right? I sell wagyu for a living, and what I don't sell, I eat.
After a while, I reached a point where just the thought of eating it makes me feel sick.
Nowadays, when it comes time to eat wagyu, I try to find a way to get rid of as much fat as possible. Even made it into a jerky once. LOL.
@@iPat6G You need some kind of palate cleanser between bites if you're gonna eat more than 4 ounces at once, and with A5 it's much better to have more surface area seared. One of my favorite preparations is actually aburi ngiri, the vinegar and sugar in the rice really help cut through and compliment the richness.
Same with the best beef brisket bbq in Texas. It's so unbelievably delicious if you have it occasionally, but its sooo rich and fatty, its hard to eat every week. A lot of BBQ pitmasters prefer Tex Mex or other local food less intensely decadent than BBQ. And even then BBQ in Texas is eaten with raw white onion and pickles to cut the richness.

DMS the yu in Hyundai actually isn't pronounced like the yu in Wagyu. "Famous of them all...kobe"
Mind: *KOBE*
I'm happy with my Sizzler steak and shrimp combo, thank you.
😂😂😂. Best comment!!!!!
"Never ending fountain of meat juice".... I thought this would be safe for work.
1:51 a lot of people don’t know
Michelin stars come from the Michelin fire brand but the history of it is quite interesting
I love that last line. A3 preferred and the difference in your 401k . I love it. More food/financal lines please
"It will literally melt in your mouth like an ethereal beef from god"
Al - live wah - gu.... is that like the new way of pronouncing olive wagyu lol
But where can you find A4 or less wagyu online? I've been searching and can only find A5.
I had 6oz of A5 Wagyu stripsteak in Vegas. It was good, but a little too fatty. It does melt in your mouth. A little goes a long way, 4-6 ounces is plenty. My buddy loved it. Bucket list item.
Take my money now I want that olive waygu
Wagyu 🤣
WAYGOO
Somethings in life are priceless, including wagyu steak.
except wagyu steak does have a price
This makes me hungry and it’s midnight so I guess I’ll just suffer
Juuuust a “little” out of my price range!
"Its like never ending fountain of meat juice" okaaaay
Ever flowing eruption of meat goo...? Is that better?
God or universe: Hey here's a unique ability I'm going to give to you specific group of cows.
Humans: Not on my watch *heavy breathing*
Finally a decent review . A5 is really not all that . It is just way to rich for my liking and I actually got sick of it after two bites . In my opinion , A3 is the perfect balance !!!!
Old post, I know. But I agree with this. In fact when I tried A5 for the first time, I was actually disappointed, and also felt nauseated the more I ate because it's literally just fat with a hint of beef. It's pure overkill with fat which is kind of disgusting. I also agree that A3 is a good balance of beef and fat as well.
Thanks for telling me to invest in my retirement towards the end, almost forgot.
For that type of beef, you measure the interfat-ular muscle
Maybe my phone is broken because I can't taste that waggggyuuuuuu beeeef!
0:46 the cow is like yummy, human wagyu.
When you eat it does it give you super powers?
its called wasting money power
Form of.... clogged arteries!
Me Listening the Speaker say Wagyu wrong the whole time. (I’m Japanese)
RIP
NeOnPvP10 LiGhTnInG and when he mispronounced Kobe
How.... How do we say them?
Wah goo
Jack Bigler no lmao
Never ending fountain of meat juice. Oh boi...
I really like this kind of series i recalled the Pizza Munchies which is closer to both taste and money common folk style...But when it comes to good food well done high or low to make your mood for a day who can possibly say no?
Today I will have my rice while watching this . It will just melt in my mouth.
All uncooked stakes are rare haha (get it)
Now you can conclude that *Japanese black is way more expensive than American black*
where is this place and where can i have this?
This is my dream to try this one time or at least some type of Kobe or wagyu
Everytime he calls the steak Wagoo it hurts me
SAY WAGYU RIGHT! 'WAH-GYOO' .
You said "WAY-GOO" LIKE WTF DUDE. My goodness, I never felt so tilted.
Calm tf down.
you'd think after hearing other people say Wagyu that he'd correct the way he says it
Up next on: _Expensive chicken eggs_
Watching this while you're hungry is torture
indeed。
I don't know why I am here?
Can't afford, still I am here.😂😂
Well, I guess one can dream, and live vicariously through watching RUclips videos. But to be honest, I don't think I'd really want it, it looks too fatty to me. Like he said, I'd rather go for A3 and save some dough, or even that American Wagyu; I mean,, I want to eat a steak, not beef bacon.
The closest I've ever came to eating wagyu was butter poached steak lol it not something we made a habit of eating but tasted awesome!
Mr Nate was on the verge of crying for half this video. And I felt it too.
