Got my license in the 80s(extra). Was very active on the air and with local club. Then started moving around and was not active for a few years. Got back into things this year and WOW, things have changed a lot. Cheap HT radios, no code requirements, huge digital increase, and it was almost like starting over with all the options. CW and SSB are still going, and I am having a ball with the digital modes (JS8call, Fldigi, etc). It is a great time to get started if you are not already.

I have no ‘base’ stations, but I have HT’s and mobile. Tech Class, KC0MCR. One radio in my vehicles is X-band capable. Have reached out to 60-mile on 70cm w/HT at 5-watts on a scanner antenna. Reached over 100 miles on 2m at 50-watt with 1/4-wave mag-mount on roof of car

"Weak Signal" or SSB on 6 and 2 meters is a lot of fun, too. I've talked with a guy in *IRELAND* on six, using only 5 watts!
