Thank you so much friends for all your excitement about this series! I’m excited too. Next episode will be about the best fabric choices and it’ll be super practical. Please share this video if you’d love your friends to join in the pant making fun too. See you soon.
So, I am going to be brave and make pants soon. It helps that I have a friend who’s also going to sew pants. I am pear shaped. Fun! I haven’t made pants since 1979 or so! I made a pair or 2 only. I have the Cashmerette Calder pattern. I will try to remember to let you know how they turn out. Meanwhile, I am watching your miniseries.
Accidently came across this video! I have been asking, begging for this! Finally, someone who really knows what we all need to know about pants patterns. I thank you with all my heart!
Hi Karina. This is very helpful. I have sewn pants. Biggest struggle is fit. Pants are graded based on a larger hip to waist ratio. My hips are narrow with an average waist. In my case 36-37” hips and a 31” waist. This usually puts me in the category of grading smaller at the hips if I want the waist to fit. I do not like too much ease in hips. This is not easily accomplished in many patterns. I’ve gotten better at looking at finished garment measurements, and making easy adjustments but I still have a lot of fails. Thank you for your support of the sewing community. I appreciate you!
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles definitely interested in hearing more about this and possible solutions . My waist and hips only have a few inches difference...this is why I have only attempted elastic waist pants so far.
This is great. I have made pants but have never perfected them. Another sewist suggested altering for a longer rise. I learned to measure, alter the pattern and fit that. Last pants, rise perfected; but then I messed up the waistband. It was a pair with a zipper. Picking the right fabric and knowing when to use a print vs a solid will be a huge help! Looking forward to your next video. I am going to love this series! Thank you. :)
I like your series of work, thank you very much. I stumbled into your tutorial while I was searching on how to make female pants. I really like what I saw here so charming. Weldone Ma' am
I made the Arden pants. They were fairly easy. I wish I would have made a full belly adjustment. I really like the paper cut pattern palisade pants. They fit me well and my full belly wasn’t an issue. I look forward to seeing the next video!
The first pair always has things to teach us and then we improve as we go along. I like the Palisdale pockets! The Arden are slimmer fit than the Palisdale.
Thank you very much for sharing your talent. I very new to sewing! I'm excited, but overwhelmed! , there is so much to learn, and I want to create beautiful garments for myself. I click on your site because it said TOP 5 beginner friendly!. I want thing to be simple as possible. So, I have subscribed with hopes of learning to make pant. It was suggested that I start with pajamas, so that what I've been working own, so far. thanks for the beginner friendly pant patterns(independent companies). I'll take a look at those again. Looking forward to the next series!
Yay Karina! I am excited about this video! The reason I don’t like to sew pants is I have extra fabric in the front. The only way to explain this is that if I want the pant to fit the crotch area, I have to fold over the waistband. Hoping this makes since...lol
Karina, I just made a pair of the Allegro pants in linen after I watched this video. They turned out so pretty! Thank you for the encouragement as you gave me the confidence to try this pattern.
I have made ski suits and coats but never pants. Being an apple shape with a large tummy EVERYTHING that is an issue with fitting pants. Thanks for the recommendations. I think the Calder Pants sound like a good place to start.
I agree about the Calder pants. They seem to have considered different body shapes and that’s awesome. Having a pair to fit you would be a golden opportunity:)
I have been making pants for a long time... but always looking for new ideas... great explanations and hopefully will help more on their sewing journey... thanks for sharing 💕
Thank you so much for this. I just stumbled upon your channel. I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes, so that I can make something that fits my body type.
I found this series because you just posted a series on woven tops. I'm going to do this one and the top. Thank you for doing these. I'm apple shaped and have a terrible time finding pants.
Thank you for doing this series. You hit the nail on the head when you said pants are intimidating to make. I’ve made a couple of Love Notions tops and I have the Allegro pattern. I’m looking forward to watching this series.
So excited for this series. I have made the Pietra Pants, but I could t have done this without watching your video about how you altered the fit. I was so pleased with them. But scared to try any other trousers, no idea why! So I’ll be watching this series for sure xx
THANK YOU! I did a toile of a pair of jeans and it was way off on size - I was thinking that before I try again i should make something simpler. This is just the ticket! Thank you!
What a super idea, Karina! It's been years since I sewed pants (well proper trousers with fitted waistband, zips etc) and it does take a while to get everything just right ... but so nice once you get there! Thanks. 💚💚💚
I have the Allegro pattern and plan to make them soon (I have the old version). My very first garment was a pair of pull-on pants for my home-ec class when I was in the 7th grade. Pants have always been my favorite thing to make. I have used the Palmer-Pletch fitting method to really get my fit down. Looking forward to this series.
Looking forward to watching this series. Although I'm late to the party so happy to find the info available. I made a pair of Allegro shorts over the summer. They sewed-up nicely but I do need to make some adjustments ... I'll try a longer version as my intro to pants.
I think this is a common issue because a lot of pattern makers make the rise a tad longer to be “high waisted” and that could carry some fitting issues.
Karina, I am hoping to make pants that fit my crazy body. I found this 1st of series of yours for making pants. I have the Bahama Bottoms ready to alter for me. I have made two pairs of pants in the past year and am not happy with either. I'm looking forward to your videos on this.
Great! Can't wait. Have trouble with fitting my waistband sitting well in relation to hips. Have recently purchased Allegro pattern but haven't sewn it yet. Keep safe.
Hi. Your video for recommended to me by Alisa from Thoughtfull Creativity. I am about to do my first trousers this week. I chose jersey trousers by love sewing magazine.
My waist is much smaller than my largest part of my hips, plus I'm sway back. I have to go up 3 / 4 sizes from waist to hip.. I'm a very hard fit so I mostly wear dresses. I would love to learn how in the world to grade from the different sizes smoothly. I love your videos.
I have made the free range pants out of beautiful linen with beautiful French felled seams etc. I thought I had measured extensively but they turned out Huge! The waistband almost came up to my bustline! I could have fitted a full term pregnancy in the excess fabric at the front. I have only tried trousers once since. The Luna pants pattern by made by Rae. They were a beautiful shape on me and fitted perfectly but when I sat down the back seam tore open. 🙈🤷🏻♀️ I have said never again but hopefully you’ll shed some light on this problem? 🙏🏻😁🌺
I love this mini-series!!! I have sewn pants a few times, but I need more options in my wardrobe, so I am excited to join in and learn from your expertise!
Thank you for posting these great videos! You've done a wonderful job of showing and explaining the manipulations. I haven't made pants terribly successfully in a looooong time and am about to try to remedy that. My question has to do with the waistband. All the simple pants patterns you highlight here have separate waistband pieces, rather than casings formed by folded-over top edges. Do you feel that using a separate waistband, even if it's just elasticized all the way around (no flat front), makes the pants stay in place at the waist better than ones made with just a casing? I suspect that must be the reason for your selection, but would like to know for sure. If so, I can just draft a separate waistband piece for the pants I intend to try making. Thank you so much!!
I am on my 5th pair of Arden pants...have made 2 as shorts, 2 as crops with batik that I love and am finishing up a full length pair....its a great pattern! Have also made 2 allegro skirts with the earlier pattern version...but when I tried the same size as shorts they were much too small with a very low rise. Happy to hear the new version has a higher rise. I would love to make the cashmerette pants...they feel like a dressier pant and I wonder if you think a tencel twill would work for them
Such useful information here. TYSM for making this series on your channel. I have a question about putting in the elastic, though. I just dislike it so much when the elastic in the waist bands curls up inside the encasing it's in. Are there any tips you can give me where I can attach the elastic to the waist band so that it won't curl - up on me when I'm wearing the pants ? If you have a way to sew it to the pants waist, would you please let me know step - by - step how you sew it all ? (For example: If/when you stretch the elastic, and, how much you stretch it, please. ) I really appreciate any advice and help you can give me. Love your channel !!! 😻
Just finished my Allegro Capri's in linen. Really like the Love Notions patterns. I've finally made my Duets as well. Can't wait to see what fabrics you recommend. Great series!
Looking forward to this series. I have extra fabric in the upper back area (sway back?) and when I sit down the front inseam bubbles up ( too much fabric?)
I love your channel. My hearing is shot, so I always use CC on RUclips videos. This one is trying to auto-translate from Korean to English. What must I do to fix it? ...or is it in the video settings?
There is a glitch on RUclips with CC sometimes. When I get home I’ll go into the back and and see what I can do to get it in English. I have already set English as default.
Lovely Karina thankyou , I have ordered pattern Simplicity 8841 because I thought it looked easy , like you say I have always concentrated on the top part but would love to make a pair of cropped pants , (very scary ), I am a very typical pair shape and it’s so difficult finding the right fit for my body so I would appreciate your thoughts on the above pattern or perhaps it’s not a good pattern for somebody who has only sewn jersey tops .. Very much enjoyed listening to you as always , so well explained ,look forward to the next time 🌈 !!
Please stay safe and at home! What I am hearing on the news from Brazil is that the virus is running rampant, especially in the big cities. I remember you are in a rural area. Rural areas are now getting hit very hard here in the U.S.A. Hopefully, your husband has protective equipment, mask, gloves, etc. so he doesn't bring it home with him. I get nervous about getting it here, I can only imagine what it is like for you! Thank you for doing this series. I can never learn enough about proper fitting, especially pants!

Hi Karina How how much fabric to buy for knee shorts , I am size 18 I just started sewing my own clothes, and I just love your talks on RUclips, helps a lot Regards Lorraine
Hi Karina, I hope you are safe and doing well. I was wondering if you can help me decide what size and kind of elastic you prefer for pants. I am making a very pretty pair of yellow linen pants. So far so good so wish me luck! I love watching your videos!
Tank you so much for your videos. The instructions are always so clear and easy to follow. This is why I'm going to use this series as my guide for sewing some pants. I have a question regarding comparing the Arden Pant to the Allegro - I would like the pant to sit at the waist or just a tiny bit lower, and I would prefer a less tapered leg - which would be best for those preferences - or would these be adjustments that are not too complicated? Thank you so much for the help 🙂💖
Hi Karina....I wasn't sure were to put this or If you would even see it??? I have been following you for years and I have a question about developing a pants sloper. Do you have two completely separate slopers for Woven and Knit? I'm pretty close on my "perfect" woven but then I'm not sure how to approach the knit issues that come up. Ideally some might have two separate ones but I was hoping you might have developed a formula of some kind (since you love math!) to apply to a knitted version of the pattern. Sorry this is so long for this forum...just wasn't sure how else to reach you. ANY light you could shed on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks...
I have not made a pant sloper for knits or for wovens and they would definitely need to be totally different. Knit pants look and fit better with some negative ease, including vertical negative ease on the rise. That concept is not there with woven pants, which need positive ease.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Unfortunately, you confirmed what I knew in my heart. You are just so cleaver … I was just hoping you might have a trick or two up your sleeve. I will “master” this woven one and see how many ways I can make it work for me…now it’s more of a dressy slack pattern with a contoured waistband. I already have some knit leggings patterns and the Mtn View jeans I love…so Hopefully once I get this pattern to where I want it, I’ll be good to go. Thanks again… i appreciate your input.
what a great idea really need to karina learn i will take part in the sewing of the pants cant wait till the next one because i dont know much about the different fabrics i also hope one of the tutorials is about fit i have a hard time finding the right fit they are always way to big on the crotch area thank u im excited to learn to make pants thank you
Thanks for the miniserie. I made Two pants, ginger jeans i love and Pietra pants big fail... for me fitting the crotch area is hard, i can’t make it... it is always too big. I think i will try seamwork joss, looks easy to short the crotch and similar to the versions you mentioned in this video.
I made my first pair of trousers last year. The sew over it Carrie trousers which are not a good fit at all. Too many pleats are the front makes my stomach look huge! Badly fitting pattern overall. I recently made some Ash jeans which again don’t fit great a bit baggy at the crotch. I made again but are too tight. So not too much success with trousers. I’m going to try the allegro trousers after making the long line skirt tonight with success. So fingers crossed with a nice floaty rayon.
I have a story with the Carrie trousers too but salvaged them to make them wearable. Jeans definitely need a muslin before making the real deal. The allegros: make sure to stay Stitch the raw waistline asap so it doesn’t stretch out before putting on the waistband :) all the best!
Hi Karina! I love your videos! ❤ Can you tell me where to find Rayon Twill in the US? Is it called anything else? I'm having trouble finding it. Thanks!!
My biggest problem that my waist and hips are almost the same size. All pants are scary when you have a 39 waist and 41 hips. I never know if grading down two or three sizes from waists to hips will work. Any advise, it seems like few women have my issue.
While my waist does have a bit more definition from my hips, my waist measurement is still at least two sizes bigger than my hip measurement calls for. So I would say this is an issue for me too! I'm so glad this will be addressed! Because of this I have only ever sewn pull on elastic waist pants. Looking forward to it. Thank you, Karina!
I have just made some pants - I’ve made the Arden pants out of a cotton drill fabric - they are a great pant but I did find when I muslined them that they came out a bit big, so I actually came down a size. I have also made several pairs of the Closet Case Pietra pants, which I absolutely love ! I have bought the Calder pants to try too! I am looking forward to seeing your fabric suggestions as I have pretty much stuck to using linen or drill. 😍👍
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Yes I know. After listening to your recommendations and clicked on the Calder link in your description, I was at their we site filling out their sizing calculator when it said my measurements were under their sizing lol .
Due to my body shape, if the pant fits when I am standing, the pant is too tight when I sit down. I've made pants and it was a complete disaster. I prefer woven cottons because I live in a warm and humid climate.
Have you checked the finished hip measurements of the garment and whether the ease around the his corresponds with the ease you need? To measure the ease you need, Put the measuring tape around the widest part of your hips and hold the measuring tape while you sit down. The width you measure while sitting down is what you need as the hip width of the finished garment. So for me my hip width standing is 109cm and when sitting it’s 117cm so I need a hip ease of 8 cm.
Thanks for this tutorial. you are doing well. Pls I just subscribed to your channel and am a beginner, pls I need a video on how to cut pants. Thanks. Waiting for your reply .
I’m not planning a video on how to cut a pant pattern from measurements. It’s advanced and you need to take a class for that. Thank you so much for watching. The series is based on using patterns 😊.
Manervacrafts.com is made the Alegro pants , I am looking for lower waist pattern with not bulk around hips and waist . Preferably a woven with some streach
Dear Karina, last year I made my first pair of pants. My cousin helped me with the fitting. Standing in front of the mirror these are perfect BUT I can't sit down 😢 when trying to sit the back waistband is pulled down so far that the 'cleavage' shows. What is the problem? I would love your advice for my next pair. My body is extremely apple shaped, my tummy is bigger than my hips. Please help 🙏

That pattern is perfect 👌🏻. Should be a fun make and it’s similar to the ones I mentioned :)
What is positive ease? Thank you.
The extra space the garment has to go around your body. It can’t be skin tight and exactly the same as your measurements.
The big 4 patterns usually have a huge amount of ease in their patterns.
Yup. That’s why I measure the pattern extensively before choosing that size to sew. They make it quite the lengthy experience.
For sure!
good morning i cannot access the pdf to download

Hi Karina

I just started sewing my own clothes, and I just love your talks on RUclips, helps a lot
Regards

Hi Karina, I hope you are safe and doing well. I was wondering if you can help me decide what size and kind of elastic you prefer for pants. I am making a very pretty pair of yellow linen pants. So far so good so wish me luck! I love watching your videos!
I like 1 1/4” elastic best but it depends on the width of your waistband and what the pattern suggests also :)
When you make a muslin, from the knee down, try to straighten the leg both on the sides and inseam to have it less tapered :)
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles brilliant! Thank you so much
Hi Karina....I wasn't sure were to put this or If you would even see it???
Does this apply for men's pants?
what a great idea really need to karina learn i will take part in the sewing of the pants cant wait till the next one because i dont know much about the different fabrics i also hope one of the tutorials is about fit i have a hard time finding the right fit they are always way to big on the crotch area thank u im excited to learn to make pants thank you
By big do you mean long on the top of your body? This seems to be very common, even for me with some patterns.
Thanks!!
I answered on your other question :)
My biggest problem that my waist and hips are almost the same size. All pants are scary when you have a 39 waist and 41 hips. I never know if grading down two or three sizes from waists to hips will work. Any advise, it seems like few women have my issue.
I totally understand this. My mother also has a similar waist and hip and yes, blending sizes can be done. I will cover this for sure :)
The fabric video will be fun! I'm glad you've made pants yay!
Anyone know how to get an English transcript? Mine is only in Korean, although I’m in the US.
Dear Karina. Stay safe you and your family. I heard that Brazil has the virus bad 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yes it's true and we are keeping safe at home. Our rural area actually has no cases so far.
how do i download the pattern
These patterns are not free. I have all the links for them in the description box of this video.
Calder size calculator said I needed a size down from their smallest size and to contact them for help.
I don’t understand the point of your comment here. I’m not affiliated to Cashmerette patterns at all.
Can we make pant from crepe fabric... Plz reply me
Only if it’s heavier weight, not see through and for a wide leg pant style.
❤️
Manervacrafts.com is made the Alegro pants , I am looking for lower waist pattern with not bulk around hips and waist . Preferably a woven with some streach
Dear Karina, last year I made my first pair of pants. My cousin helped me with the fitting. Standing in front of the mirror these are perfect BUT I can't sit down 😢 when trying to sit the back waistband is pulled down so far that the 'cleavage' shows. What is the problem? I would love your advice for my next pair. My body is extremely apple shaped, my tummy is bigger than my hips. Please help 🙏
I have the McCalls pattern and it does have pockets. The instructions were not good.
