Glad to see Thousand Year Door getting some love. I think what makes the bosses of that game even more memorable is the soundtrack they were paired with. Hooktail's sick percussion line. Rawk Hawk's metal rock banger. And Doopliss's theme is by far my favorite (and I usually don't even like haunted levels that much).
To be fair, Ocarina of Time's bosses all adopted the same basic strategy: stun it with the weapon found in the dungeon, attack, rinse and repeat. Granted, each boss had a unique look and style to it, Volvagia was a volcano-dwelling dragon of fire and death (My favorite kind!), Morpha was a pool-filling evil slime, TwinRova were two witch sisters who did the Fusion Dance, and Bongo Bongo... was an invisible eldritch horror that played a drum. That said, their strategies weren't all that varied, and I understand why Firebrand put Twilight Princess on the list over Ocarina of Time.

@@aardbei54 and king dodongo and barinade are way too easy. honestly other than the final boss the only ones that are exceptional are phantom ganon and twinrova
Not a bad list. Glad to see Thousand Year Door, Kingdom Hearts, and Undertale on this list. But my favorite game ever - one whose bosses are a huge reason it's my favorite game in the first place - is sadly absent. And that game is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. This game has some of the most fun, satisfying boss fights I've ever played. Whether it's msking Burt the Bashful lose his pants, pushing Roger the Potted Ghost over the edge, battling inside Prince Froogy's stomach, or chasing down Raphael the Raven on a spinning planet, every boss has its unique gimmicks, weaknesses, and personality... not to mention some sweet graphics. The final battle against Baby Bowser is so intense, it may be better than any of Mario's battles against his adult counterpart.
A lot of the bosses in Final Fantasy XIV are great. Yeah, each boss fight boils down to "how can I do my rotation as much as possible", but later bosses tend to have some interesting twist to them. The remixed Primal fights in Shadowbringers' Eden raids are all just...so good. My personal favorite...is a tie between E6 and E8. E6 has your party face off against Ifrit and Garuda at the same time...until they decide to combine their powers and become an entirely new enemy. E8 has Shiva, who's shifting between Ice and Light attacks. The Savage raids really take things to the extreme too.
I completely agree with Number 2. The music for each boss's theme is its own form of incredible. I'm very glad that one of these themes made it into Smash Bros.
This is a very hard time. The voice of Soldier: Rick May has passed away due to having a stroke in February, then eventually dying from it on April 8th, 2020. Rest In Peace Rick May. You were an awesome voice for Soldier.
I'm honestly disappointed that you didn't put any of the Kirby games on this list, with boss battles that seriously deserve recognition. Other than that, great video. The rap was glorious!
I honestly expected Kirby: Planet Robobot to be #1 given how amazing the bosses are in that game, should've gotten an honorable mention. Either way, great list!
Kinda sad no Final Fantasy entry, but it's understandable. That said, Josh, will we be seeing stuff from the remake on your lists in the near future? Or possibly a playthrough?
Personally, I would pick 9. It's often the underdog of the FF franchise, but BOY did they put their all into it ! (if you can forget Death at the end, of course) EDIT : I mean, SERIOUSLY !?! An optional boss in the middle of a tense timed section !?! that rewards you with the 'Haste' item WAY earlier than you should ? heck yeah !
@@pierre-mariecaulliez6285 Yeah, all the bosses in 9 are enjoyable, well-written, and can be challenging if you don't know the strategies. The disc 4 Memoria bosses and Necron notwithstanding, of course.
Don't forget the Optional bosses in Asura's Wrath, whom of which were brought over from Street Fighter. Ryu and Akuma, who you fight Ryu first in a Street Fighter 4 style fight until you beat him so hard it turns into a proper arena fight with Hadouken Barrages, Super powered Shoryukens and combo's galore, and that's before he turns into Evil Ryu where he turns up the pace 10 fold to keep you on your toes. Then you have Akuma, who arrives once Ryu is beaten and you have to do it all again, but this time with Akuma transforming into Oni! The fight with Oni is so immense that you actually clash Raging Demons and attempt to out punch the godlike demon himself! The fight ends with a climax where both Asura and Akuma become petrified in stone due to all their clashes and then wind up for one last blow. Honestly, as optional bosses, this is how you do your strongest street fighter justice and it only becomes more hype when you watch someone like Maxmillian-Dood undertake this feat on the hardest difficulty. Man that shit was so hype!!
10. The Beat Em Up Crew Rap was amazing. And i say that unironically. 9. I GIVE MY LIFE. NOT FOR HONOR, BUT FOR YOUUUUUU 8. A World full of WarCrafting Bosses 7. Every Day is Pick on Pit Day 6. TP is definitely one of my all time favorites. 5. I T ' S A C O N S P I R A C Y ! 4. Asura's Wrath would've been lit as an Anime. 3. "Oh wow, who saw that coming?" 2. Oh yeah. it's all coming together 1. Eventually, JK Dormin reveals that you, the player, were the boss all along
I’m bummed Cuphead didn’t get an honorable mention. It’s basically Boss Battles: The Game and is why I wanted to get it. All of the bosses are unique and require you to be on your toes at all times while figuring out the right pattern to deal with them which still doesn’t ensure a win due to how challenging they are.
Dark Souls 3, get past the weaker/gimmick ones and you have one of the best boss collections of any video game. This doesn't even factor in the incredible soundtracks that go with the fights.
Personally, I’ll defend you for picking TP over OoT. You had to limit yourself to one per franchise, otherwise LoZ would have multiple slots. OoT and TP are neck and neck when it comes to bosses but I would agree. TP just manages to edge OoT out.
My top 10: 10. *Shovel Knight* 9. *Yakuza 0* 8. *Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door* 7. *MadWorld* 6. *The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword* 5. *Undertale* 4. *Shadow of the Colossus* 3. *A Hat in Time* 2. *Okami* 1. *No More Heroes* and *No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle* Honourable mentions: _Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Tales of Symphonia, Viewtiful Joe, Kingdom Hearts 2, The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, Super Mario Odyssey, Rogue Galaxy, Little King's Story,_ and _Kid Icarus Uprising._
Those are considered character action games. Beat em ups are stuff like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Castle Crashers etc. 3D beat em ups are more like Shenmue & Yakuza.
YAY! IT'S NOT A FAIL COUNTDOWN! ...NOOOOO! NEVER RAP AGAIN! Good list. Also... Monster Hunter World. Boss battles, the game, and each new monster either teaches a new skill, sets a new twist to fighting the monsters to overcome, or tests a combination of previous skills/obstacles.
Herman Cillo I really hope that game comes to the Switch sometime. Just tried out MH4U a couple months back and I’m loving the structure of the gameplay (though I definitely need to improve a ton still!)
@@emblemblade9245 OH! I have two games that are system sellers for me for the Switch. Metroid Prime 4, and the Monster Hunter games. Edit: It takes time to improve, given the number of monsters. I'm at around 500 hours in MHW, and some monsters still bat me around. Especially Raging Brachydios. He's like an angry George Foreman with explosives on his gloves!
Hey Josh. I'm curious since I know you love Kingdom Hearts 2 final mix so much. What do you think of Kingdom Heart 3's DLC. Or rather the Organization 13 data fights and the secret boss fight. Are they as fun as the Kingdom Hearts 2 bosses?
AH HA! Josh you've done it again! You made us believe that there were only ten bosses on this list, includingTheOpeningMusicalNumber#10. You surprise us with the secret End Boss, The Angry OoT Mob! I hope you packed plenty of Elixirs, Phoenix Downs, and Bottled Fairies. It's going to be a long night.
*Before Number 1 comes up* He's going to put Shadow of the Colossus at #1 isn't he? *Sees it* Called it. Glad to see Twilight Princess be the Zelda pick here. When coming up with my written list of my fav Zelda Bosses (not including final or mini bosses), TP had the most entries, even though Bongo Bongo is still my fav boss in Zelda franchise. I actually love Blizzetta, that was fun. I never did KH2 Final Mix, but yeah KH2 still has the best bosses with the best final boss in the franchise. But if I had to pick a game that had my fav bosses in it, it would Skies of Arcadia (only own the Dreamcast version). Ever single major battle I enjoyed, even though a few I had a love/hate relationship to it (look at you Executioner). It had great land battles and epic Ship battles. The nice thing about this game was you didn't have to grind that much. I only grind alot towards the beginning (3 lvls) because the 4th ground boss (the Executioner) has a difficulty spike, but after that all of the bosses difficulty are pretty consistent.
This might be because I'm on a Castlevania high right now, but I'd put Dracula X Chronicles in my own personal choice. The fight with Death on top of the ships main mast was pretty neat, if frustrating with the extra sickles. Not to mention your first boss being either a wyvern or a sea serpent, the Minotaur and werewolf battle, the quick boss rush Shaft gives you with the bosses from the first game, and one of the best Dracula fights. I will absolutely agree on the DMC 3 choice.
I've thought about getting #4 at times... then I remember that the final boss is DLC. Not bothering with that nonsense. Though to clarify, I wouldn't have problems getting the DLC that is NOT story-based, or that one "intermission" chapter, but I don't take kindly to having to pay twice to get the base game.
10: No More Heroes 9: Pokémon Sun 8: Mega Man 9 + X4 7: Kid Icarus Uprising 6: SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom 5: Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess 4: Undertale 3: Kirby Return to Dreamland 2: Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon 1: Sonic Colors
while all good choices, I still love the boss lineup in Resident Evil 4 from El Gigante, Del Lago, and Chief Mendez, to the Verdugo, Garrador, and Salazar, to Jack Krauser, the U3, and Osmund Saddler. all of these bosses are good bosses and is one of the reasons why I like this game
ZeroRanger, Hellsinker, Metal Gear Rising, Hollow Knight and Dark Souls 3 for me. Probably more that I can't quite remember as of now, but those are the ones that I can think of at the top of my head.
I am honestly surprised that there wasn't a mention of Final Fantasy in this. Be real here, most of the bosses in those games, especially recently, are awesome. You have the Holly Kefka that makes you feel tense, Sephiroth who is a literal death Angel, XIII had multiple God like entities you could kill throughout the series, X had Sin which was creative in design, then there's XV where everything is so giant that when you finally fight Ardyn you feel like you found your equal. Love it or hate it, Final Fantasy just has really good bosses that I'm surprised the series wasn't even mentioned.
18:17 - I was just about to comment about Jafar. If a boss ends up being a pushover to me on my first playthrough, on CRITICAL mode, clearly something's wrong.
Love that Twilight Princess and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door were on the list. May have never played the second game myself. But both deserve to be on here. C: Also I actually loved the rap cx
I agree with your list! One of my favorite sets of bosses so far is in Smash Ultimate. Despite having the exact same number as in Brawl, most of them are all really good! Rathalos, Ganon, Marx and Dracula particularly stand out as being more faithful to their respective series than SSE’s bosses.
How about when a boss is used to demonstrate in the story that while you've come far from where you began, there's a foe out there your completely outmatched by? When even the game tells you _"Escape is the only chance for survival."_ Also, It Half Hot Mum, is hilarious. More clips of that in these please.
I didn't expect it to be on the list (and it wasn't), but one game that has some of my favorite bosses is Sonic Generations ( I haven't played many games). The rivals all have a similar fight style, but I could care less. They're all improvements over their previous fights. The Death Egg Robot is more in-depth than before. Perfect Chaos is much more imposing and tests platforming better. Egg Dragoon is a change of pace. (NOT SORRY LOLOLOL) Another game I feel like mentioning is NiGHTS into Dreams. Every boss is a simple math equation. Drill Dash + a catch that means you can't go all gungho + great music = fun. Well, Gillwing, the first boss is pretty mindless, actually. The dragon gave a loud scream can distract me from that, though. Oh, and let's not forget Super Mario Sunshine. We have a bad message (water is good for you), hentai, sand dune making, space mountain, dentist work, gambling, and the Bad-Dub Hot-Tub.

@@aardbei54 and king dodongo and barinade are way too easy. honestly other than the final boss the only ones that are exceptional are phantom ganon and twinrova
*intense wheeze*
That number 10 left me wheezing, wasn’t expecting that
I completely agree with Number 2.
Top 10 metal gear bosses
Top 10 fire emblem bosses
Top 10 tragic bosses
Top 10 final fantasy bosses
For suggestions lol
That rap was beautiful.
Either way, great list!
beat-em up crew was hilarious. I feel like it should include Astral Chain, Wonderful 101 and Metal Gear Rising too....
If he does a reprise, he should get Dan Bull or someone who does gaming raps. It was funny, but still.
"Mob comes to his door"
Josh: Honey, grab my amps. It's "Fight The Knight" time!
Terraria, Cuphead, Asuras Wrath, Undertale, Shadow of the Colossus
I always thought Twilight Princess had the visual scare and what-the-crudery. I support that choice 100%.
(if you can forget Death at the end, of course)
EDIT : I mean, SERIOUSLY !?!
Wait, NO Kefka!? That's a crime.
NOT FOR HONOR, BUT FOR YOUUUUUU
8. A World full of WarCrafting Bosses
7. Every Day is Pick on Pit Day
6. TP is definitely one of my all time favorites.
5. I T ' S A C O N S P I R A C Y !
4. Asura's Wrath would've been lit as an Anime.
3. "Oh wow, who saw that coming?"
2. Oh yeah. it's all coming together
1. Eventually, JK Dormin reveals that you, the player, were the boss all along
You were having fun with number 10
I’m bummed Cuphead didn’t get an honorable mention. It’s basically Boss Battles: The Game and is why I wanted to get it. All of the bosses are unique and require you to be on your toes at all times while figuring out the right pattern to deal with them which still doesn’t ensure a win due to how challenging they are.
The lack of cuphead and soulsbourne series immediately told me all I needed to know about this particular opinion
"I'm part of the mob!" I love that.
Asura's Wrath should've At Least been Top 3 with all it's Massive feeling All Out Brawls, the Music Alone makes those Boss Fights feel So Hype!
...Josh. It's freaking midnight over here.
Patrick: Oh boy 3am.
12:11 as a Beyblade fan, I approve. A lot.
Honorable Mentions:
*Batman Arkham series
*Persona 5
*Megaman Series
*Souls Series
And
*Monster Hunter
No Cuphead!?
@@ForrestFox626: I haven't played Cuphead. ...yet.
@@andrewhaase1826 Shame, I'm sure you'll enjoy it one you get a chance to play it.
12:47 - Seeing something that can scar you be like "NOPE, NOPE, NOPE! The Land of 10,000 Nopes!"
Isshin the Sword Saint & Slave Knight Gael.
Canadian Mike TV Soulsborne should be number 1 instead of SOTC.
Dark Souls 3, get past the weaker/gimmick ones and you have one of the best boss collections of any video game. This doesn't even factor in the incredible soundtracks that go with the fights.
A Top 10 on bosses huh , a bit typical but I'll definitely still find enjoyment in it .
Best Bosses in total
Personally, I’ll defend you for picking TP over OoT. You had to limit yourself to one per franchise, otherwise LoZ would have multiple slots. OoT and TP are neck and neck when it comes to bosses but I would agree. TP just manages to edge OoT out.
My top 10:
10. *Shovel Knight*
9. *Yakuza 0*
8. *Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door*
7. *MadWorld*
6. *The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword*
5. *Undertale*
4. *Shadow of the Colossus*
3. *A Hat in Time*
2. *Okami*
1. *No More Heroes* and *No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle*
Honourable mentions: _Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Tales of Symphonia, Viewtiful Joe, Kingdom Hearts 2, The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, Super Mario Odyssey, Rogue Galaxy, Little King's Story,_ and _Kid Icarus Uprising._
Those are considered character action games. Beat em ups are stuff like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Castle Crashers etc. 3D beat em ups are more like Shenmue & Yakuza.
Oh this countdown is going to be FUN!
RULES OF NATURE!
DJsquare3 Josh’s KH2: Final Mix let’s play has ruined *Rules of Nature* for me.
Well Josh.....Thanks to you, now I'm never going to be able to fight in Agrabah again without seeing Mr. Popo spitting fireballs at Sora!
I would say they are just as good if not better personally I feel like Yozora is one of the most well constructed superbosses I've ever faced
@@KeyBladeMaster-Dan Agreed. They were all really fun and really tough fights. =) Yozora of course was by far the most fun and thrilling.
I better not be the Donald here
@@AramautheFierySecretary no, never! you could be Aranea. I mean you do have the eyes in the skies.
Twilight Princess bosses in a nutshell. Man, that boss looks really cool this is gonna be a great figh- oh wait he's dead
The jumpscare at the start of Blizzeta's boss battle gets me every fucking time
Holy cow, there's a version where you fight Gantu from Lilo and Stitch. I meed to find a walkthrough of that.
Number 4 has Allegro Con Fuoco, also known as Dvorak's four movement in his 9th symphony in the background. HELL YES
15:20
And that's when I reached this comment!
I actually enjoyed the beat him up crew rap. It was clever cuz I've never played any of those games
Games that come to mind are Yakuza series, Okami, and of course God of War.
3 Words, No More Heroes.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I LISTENED TO THAT GOD AWFUL RAP TWICE
I don't know if that says more about me or joshscorcher
10: No More Heroes
9: Pokémon Sun
8: Mega Man 9 + X4
7: Kid Icarus Uprising
6: SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom
5: Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
4: Undertale
3: Kirby Return to Dreamland
2: Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
1: Sonic Colors
It's good to see you're back fiery joker, and for this list..... Damn those are excellent choices , can't wait for the next boss video.
Another great vid, man. Hope you're taking care of yourself during these crazy times.
while all good choices, I still love the boss lineup in Resident Evil 4 from El Gigante, Del Lago, and Chief Mendez, to the Verdugo, Garrador, and Salazar, to Jack Krauser, the U3, and Osmund Saddler. all of these bosses are good bosses and is one of the reasons why I like this game
I like the modern Kirby bosses.
And how can we forget some of the great abridged series for twilight princess
17:13 Thank you for the Lilo&Stitch reference. :)
I'd cry "Stitch", but he seemed to be a footnote in the KH series.
ZeroRanger, Hellsinker, Metal Gear Rising, Hollow Knight and Dark Souls 3 for me. Probably more that I can't quite remember as of now, but those are the ones that I can think of at the top of my head.
Asura's Wrath should get an anime adaptation.
I was wondering if any of the MegaMan series, MegaMan X, or any of the MegaMan spinoff series were considered for the list?
That Beat em up Rap was glorious. :D
My curiosity for Asura's Wrath slowly grows further.
Because of you, I can now sing Rules of Nature!
Great. Just great. Fabulous list, Mr. Scorcher.
Next could be Top 10 Crossover Deathmatchs that I would want to see?
Like
Dante vs Bayonetta
Sora vs Link
Megaman X vs Samus
Josh vs The Big Bang
Love that Twilight Princess and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door were on the list. May have never played the second game myself. But both deserve to be on here. C:
Also I actually loved the rap cx
Honestly I was feeling so rubbish today but this was pretty funny and cheered me up 😂😂 thanks for sharing!
Perkilator XIII The bosses are really well thought out in that game. HP gets a bit high, but the fights are awesome, especially Marx and Dracula
How about when a boss is used to demonstrate in the story that while you've come far from where you began, there's a foe out there your completely outmatched by?
When even the game tells you _"Escape is the only chance for survival."_
Also, It Half Hot Mum, is hilarious. More clips of that in these please.
Awesome list ! :D. One game I love the bosses of is megaman zx advent, because you get to play as them after you beat them .
Maybe for part of this set of boss countdowns, we could get a top 16 Shadow of the Colossus boss fights.
I seem to have lucked out with how many of these games I grew up with.
(NOT SORRY LOLOLOL)
Another game I feel like mentioning is NiGHTS into Dreams.
I like the bosses in A Plague Tale. There's only 3 of them, but they're all completely unique and really awesome.
Number 9, how passionate was about one fight brought me back in time. I miss Media Master dude...
