- One thing is clear, the more human and detailed you sound, the better your chances are of continuing to book VO work. That's one of the reasons I'm so highly enamored with the Lauten LS-208. Punch, clarity and range. In this first listen, just dig into the sound and let me know what you think.
Thank you to @LautenAudio for sending this over. I love this mic!
The LS-208 is one of my favorite microphones in my collection. The various switches make it so versatile.
I do love the different tonal variations of the LS-208. Such an underrated gem.
Welcome to Lauten Audio! They get even better! the 208 sounds fantastic on you. Better than most -- and that's saying something because EVERY mic sounds good on you. Haha
Thanks, man! It is the hair shirt I wear. Sounding good on every mic, but I am 100 percent serious when I say that the 208 is possibly the last mic I will ever need. It has changed the entire game for me, which is insane.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff fantastic! But is there ever truly a last? Even if there was, would you want it to be the last? Hahaha
@@TheRecordist I was thinking the exact same thing when I watched this video yesterday. Sure, it'll be the last mic he "needs," but what about the "wants?"
(Love your channel btw, it has become kind of a shopping list for me.)
I've heard people sound very sibilant on this mic, but it sounds like pure air on your voice. Really suits you!
Thanks Jeremy! I really appreciate your ears on this one. That's great to hear.
Sounds punchy and clear, love the idea of the rejection for less treated rooms. I’m missing some low end though maybe it’s just me acclimating to the sound.
For sure you can definitely take the HPF off and get way more low end, but for what I do, it's all about the intelligibility and detail of the midrange and all that low end is counterproductive for the most part.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff makes sense. This mic also seems to have a great proximity effect up close if you want to use it that way.
Here’s the truth Mark;
The more I listen to it, the more I’m falling in love with your versatility in switching and rendering every kind of VO genre; effortlessly, eloquently and proficiently.
You are so good with your nuances that you could pretty much make any microphone sound great! So, how am I to give credit to the LS 208 !? 😉
Ps; its less about the Mic and more about the person working it.
Thank you very much, Gary! Thank you for your kind words and analysis. Good point! I think the fact that you felt that it seems “effortless” is a testimony to how well the mic gels with my voice. Hearing my voice so clearly when I’m cutting helps me better lean into those nuances. My instrument does do all the heavy lifting. But what I’m always looking for in a mic is something that supports it fully to take it across the goal line. Often what makes the difference is very subtle, but every single percentage point of gain increases the margin for victory.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff if the mics were cars, you’re Dominic Torreto! 🤟
Certainly on my radar!
I’m definitely digging this mic.
The mic sounds really nice. Interesting that it is designed for less than ideal conditions, it might be good for podcasting, better than a dynamic mic?! I like the end address as well, although they do make a side-address version of it as well.
Hi Curtis! I think for sure you could replace a dynamic with it for podcasting and get a much better recording. The 308, I was told, was really voiced for drums and probably wouldn’t be the better choice for voice.
I did some testing on this versus some other condensers and some dynamics and the dynamics definitely picked up the released rumor noise when I was recording in a non-treated hallway, if you eat a dynamic mic it picks up very little of that reverb, if you're about two to three fingers away from this it didn't do quite as good as the dynamic but pretty darn close I mean next best thing, should send more detail to
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff But it sounds great with your voice!! So there you go!
The proof is in the pudding and the pudding is delicious.
I'm guessing you have the 10 kkz cut off engaged, I might use mine in quite a while, I think I might get that out in do some stuff on my gaming channels with this one again, I really do like this Mike a lot and the phone keeps typing up Mike incorrectly, that damn phone I'm telling you it's out to get me
I actually don’t have the 10k LP on, I’m running it wide open with the 50hz HP on. I love all the extra detail it brings up to around 14k-ish. Keep one eye open on that phone. It’s just waiting for you to go to sleep… and then… BAM!
it seems to take much less issue with your booth environment than the neumanns. i like it. it needs some slight eq in the high end but other than that
Thanks for lending your super ears, Ari! I totally agree.
Another great video! What mics would you suggest for drum overheads in the 200 to 400 mark? Thanks
Thank you! As someone who only now records only VO, I can’t really say what would work for OH’s. I wouldn’t sleep on the Line Audio CM4’s. Great flat response and they’re ridiculously affordable if you can get them. Or maybe the Se 8.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff thank you so very much! Highly appreciated!
A touch harsh, but sounds good
Thanks Leo!
