Fun Fact: An extremely profane argument between Bill Murray and Lucy Liu shut down filming for a day. Murray allegedly said: "I get why you're here (Drew Barrymore), and you've got talent (Cameron Diaz)... but what in the hell are you doing here? You can't act!" The remark is said to have prompted Liu to launch a physical attack on Murray. In recent years, Murray cited script problems as the reason for the feud. He explained: "We began rehearsing this scene and I said, 'Lucy, how can you want to say these lines? These are so crazy'. She got furious with me because she thought it was a personal assault, but the reality is she hated these lines as much as I did. I feel very warmly for her now."
Bill Murray is kinda a worthless prick, a drunk and hated Richard Dreyfuss.....He's barely in that Ghostbusters video game, because HE decided he was finished halfway through recording sessions, there is a reason why Venkman disappears after the first couple of levels and most of his lines are just recycled dialog they had recorded before he decided he was finished.

I've heard about this movie, that Crispin Glover was so dissatisfied with the dialog , that he refused to say anything at all, so they decided to make his character mute.
Doesn't it say something about how awfully run McG productions are? Bales infamous Terminator Salvation was allegedly around how unsatisfied the film was turning out, as well as personal life issues. Then Tom Hardy saying how much he hated making This Means War. That spy romantic action comedy that starred Hardy, Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon. Anyone remember that movie? Both Bale and Hardy later said they would never work with McG ever again in their careers
Charlie's Angels (2000) is a guilty pleasure of mine, probably because it came out during a particularly memorable period of my life. I worked in a movie theater and this was one of the films that played while I was there. Many of those movies hold a lot of nostalgia for me. Full Throttle is also kind of fun.
If turning 40 in a week isn't bad enough, this movie reminds me of a simpler time when all I cared about was getting out of high school. Can't believe this movie is well over 20 years old.

3:43 Well its a step up from when he reviewed "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" without reading any of the original "Railway Series" books or watching the TV series.
Bill Murray yelled at Lucy Liu during filming, calling her "a talentless TV actress with no skills whatsoever ." Liu walked off the set crying, but Murray apologized for his comment. However, the incident had the producers fire him from the sequel, Charlie's Angels 2, and was replaced by Bernie Mac.
no personality? I thought their personalities were the only thing less obvious than the fanservice. Natalie- goofy and sweet. Dylan- tough and rebellious. Alex- classy and cunning.
I grew up with this movie and I love it for its lightheartedness, humor, and beautiful and charming female characters. Lucy Liu's character is the most unassuming, but Cameron Diaz's Natalie is pure charm. She has an amazing smile! I think her character was well written, as well as Dylan, played by Drew Barrymore. Dylan is a bold and unbreakable beauty with a rough childhood. The movie should not be taken too seriously, it's a parody of serious spy action films
This is probably the best remake of Charlie’s Angel, I had fun with those movie when it came out in 2000! Bill Murray and the trio were the right cast, Diaz, Liu, Barrymore!
One scene that caught my eye in Charlie's Angels is when two boys were playing Final Fantasy VIII. It is strange that FF8 is not a two-player game while FF9 technically is.
I remember my mom and dad made friends with neighbour who happens to have a daughter who is into Spice Girls and Destiny's Child. I was a little girl at that time and she was a teenager and introduced me to this film. However, looking back, it's more of a guilty pleasure with the amount of goofiness, over-the-top martial arts and the amazing soundtrack. - C, the Creator
The phrase 'shut your brain off movie' has never been more true. It's stupid, insanely goofy, but... I can't help but love it. I just wanted to have a good time and not think about the horrible world outside and this movie gave me what I asked for. It wasn't bad like 'Jem & The Holograms' where it hits like a hammer with its manymanymanymanymanyMANY flaws to where you notice the plot holes, CA tells you up front that it's a bad movie and my God it sticks to its guns, and I that's what I enjoyed about it.
Charlie's Angels (2000) just feels like one of those action movies from the turn of the millennium, where in hindsight, it was obvious that the filmmakers were really trying their hardest to pander and appeal to a more adolescent audience. So the filmmakers attempted to align these films with the visually exhilarating style of video games or the music videos they may watch on MTV. But the end result was that the movies ends up lacking any real depth, with cringe-worthy one-liners littered throughout. Charlie's Angels, Mission: Impossible II, and Die Another Day are probably, the most predominate of these types of movies.
This was the very 1st adult movie my mom let me watch and it has a special place in my heart. Let me tell you it's way better than that reboot they try to do.
The Hill Place blog back on September 7, 2011 (in an entry titled "Reassessing "Charlie's Angels" 35 Years Later"), posted the following: But, if you can look past it, this was one of the few successful TV shows or movies in the 1970s where the lead characters were almost exclusively female, in a decade where male “buddy” stories dominated the big and small screens. Throughout the different cast permutations, the Angels were always depicted as mature, sophisticated, women. They were never whining, squealing, cutesy, “girls.” (Despite Charlie’s gently condescending reference to them as “three little girls” or “three beautiful girls” in the opening credits, depending on which season you are watching.) The “Charlie’s Angels” movies produced by Drew Barrymore were much more troubling because the big-screen Angels were more often the victim of sexual innuendos, trashy costuming, humiliating situations, boring boyfriends, and adolescent giddiness than their TV counterparts ever were. The Barrymore Angels were "empowered" in so far as they were willingly exploiting and degrading themselves. Ironically, the TV Angels, produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg, were comparatively much more dignified. Unlike most movies and shows centering on women, the series always depicted the Angels as competent, cooperative colleagues. It avoided the cliché of portraying female colleagues as being competitive with each other. The focus for the TV Angels was almost never on their personal lives, but on their work.
The one thing I love about this film is that it draws a parallel between two of the best sci-fi comedies of the 1980's, Ghostbusters and Back to the Future. It stars Bill Murrey (Peter Venkman) and Crispin Glover (George McFly).
Yep. But the sad truth is, Peter Venkman was a dick. In fact he was a complete and total asshole at times in both movies. He was obnoxious, egotistical, passive-aggressive and a blatant womanizer. But we overlook alll those things about him, because busting makes us feel good, am I right? I Ain't Fraid Of No Ghost!
Funny story: As someone who was actually born in the early in the early 2000s, I've of course heard of this movie as a kid but never saw it or apparently knew what it was about- So I went my whole life not knowing what this movie was, but I THOUGHT I knew what it was, because I thought for the first TWENTY years of my life, that "Charlie's Angels" was actually the late 90s Disney baseball movie "Angels in the outfields", and I'm not gonna lie- I almost would've preferred to keep it that way now that I know what this movie was, but now I have a funny story instead- That's really the only silver lining I see- The rest of me is going "How did Bill Murray go from Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day to this on the dawn of my birth?-"
Basically, what we get is if somebody took the basic concept of Charlie's Angels, placed the Angels in James Bond or Mission: Impossible-like scenarios and make it out to be some sort of self-referential postmodern parody of the TV series, a la the Brady Bunch movies from the '90s. All in all, it used the goofy tone and feel of Spice World, the action sensibilities of Hong Kong cinema, and the male gaze and hyper kinetic, glossy, music video editing and filming style of a Michael Bay movie.
Oh, it could definitely be more 2000s. The whole movie should take place either at night or during overcast conditions in a grungy city while Evansecence is playing behind the entire film.
@@Damon242 The cold opening with LL Cool J and the mad bomber on the airplane in particular, aged horrendously post-9/11. The whole scene is virtually played up for laughs and like it's no big deal.

To quote Jim Carrey Smoookin Also this made me a fan of Drew Barrymore as well and Cameron Diaz I love all three actresses and I'm sorry they were drop dead gorgeous and I like the sequel to
It was Ally McBeal that made me a fan of Lucy Liu. That was one of the main reasons I watched this film. Well, that and Cameron Diaz, esepcially after seeing her in The Mask
I used to watch a vhs recording of this movie over and over again while playing mario land 2 on my GBC under my nightstand lamp It was just so entertaining and dynamic every scene
I remember watching that movie endlessly on VHS when I was a kid. To me it was really fun. A lot of memorable sets, actions, great soundtrack, actors having a blast. Even Bill Murray, who Nostalgia Critic disses here, I feel is great entertainment. And, to be honest, I think the movie is self-aware and realizes its audience. Plus, I distinctively remember each character's personality, despite what the review tries to say otherwise
At least this product knew what it was and went with it. They were handed a cheesy premise and decided to lean into that aspect hard. It’s wasn’t just cheesy it was delightfully cheesy. Wasn’t trying to be clever or make a point, just wanted mindless fun. Now compare to the later re-reboot where they wanted to be taken seriously... that was a train wreck.

That couldn't have been better timed, I've never laughed so hard. 🤣🤣🤣
I've heard about this movie, that Crispin Glover was so dissatisfied with the dialog , that he refused to say anything at all, so they decided to make his character mute.
A film series that had a lot of potential, but so much production troubles.
The Lord Of The The Rings Trilogy was awesome and it didn’t have any production problems.
@@chasehedges6775 one series I've never rewatched. I one and doned the theatrical releases
I join you turning 40 in 7 months
23:22 Ah yes, my favorite part of every movie. When two people extremely half-ass pretend to be playing a videogame. Extra points when is a single player game, like here.
24:59 I love these subtle but extremely accurate edits lmao. When i saw the bell drop there my mind instantly went to 1989 batman too.
Honestly it's an impressive technical display for a movie filmed entirely with one hand.

3:43 Well its a step up from when he reviewed "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" without reading any of the original "Railway Series" books or watching the TV series.
Bill Murray yelled at Lucy Liu during filming, calling her "a talentless TV actress with no skills whatsoever ."
Liu walked off the set crying, but Murray apologized for his comment.
Was Drew Barrymore trying to make a parody of her past self by having her play the "tough and rebelious" girl?
I grew up with this movie and I love it for its lightheartedness, humor, and beautiful and charming female characters. Lucy Liu's character is the most unassuming, but Cameron Diaz's Natalie is pure charm. She has an amazing smile! I think her character was well written, as well as Dylan, played by Drew Barrymore. Dylan is a bold and unbreakable beauty with a rough childhood. The movie should not be taken too seriously, it's a parody of serious spy action films
This movie was a reason why I became a Charlie's Angels fan!!
(God bless the 2000s)
This is probably the best remake of Charlie’s Angel, I had fun with those movie when it came out in 2000! Bill Murray and the trio were the right cast, Diaz, Liu, Barrymore!
agreed it just has fun with what it is.
@@ddjsoyenby yeah it’s a guilty pleasure!
It probably has more relation theme wise to the anesthetic of the 70s show than more people think.
@@sillygrl23 even though it can’t match the original 70s series. It’s closer to the theme of the groovy women!
As a black guy, I find it hard to be offended by a cartoonish depiction of Drew Barrymore in a black guy disguise. That's just me, though.
One scene that caught my eye in Charlie's Angels is when two boys were playing Final Fantasy VIII. It is strange that FF8 is not a two-player game while FF9 technically is.
I guess the filmmakers didn't do their research and got confused with both games

The sequel is actually a lot of fun. Review that!
If no one else has said it, Crispin Glover as Thin Man is the best part of both movies!
No matter what our opinions are on the 2000s Charlie’s Angels movies, one thing is certain…at least it’s better than the 2019 reboot.
That might be one of the lowest bars to clear :p
12:37 Also, both movies have Tim Curry so... Automatic win!
I LOVE the first movie and Full Throttle. I wish we'd gotten a third film to complete the trilogy.
Me too.
Yeah same here !!!
But we have, don't we? It's D.O.A. - Dead Or Alive (2006). (yeah I know not true but it is very similar)
Crispen Glover: "Think McFly! Think!"
Just love how often the charlies angels formula kept popping up, with 3 girls and the mission giver
Doug has to do a review of Tommy Boy with Chris Farley and David Spade it's the perfect Nostalgic 90s comedy if there ever was one.
Absolutely, and Black Sheep.
6:40 And I thought that Carl disguised as a black woman in Phineas and Ferb was problematic.
This was the very 1st adult movie my mom let me watch and it has a special place in my heart. Let me tell you it's way better than that reboot they try to do.
The Hill Place blog back on September 7, 2011 (in an entry titled "Reassessing "Charlie's Angels" 35 Years Later"), posted the following:
But, if you can look past it, this was one of the few successful TV shows or movies in the 1970s where the lead characters were almost exclusively female, in a decade where male “buddy” stories dominated the big and small screens. Throughout the different cast permutations, the Angels were always depicted as mature, sophisticated, women. They were never whining, squealing, cutesy, “girls.” (Despite Charlie’s gently condescending reference to them as “three little girls” or “three beautiful girls” in the opening credits, depending on which season you are watching.)
The “Charlie’s Angels” movies produced by Drew Barrymore were much more troubling because the big-screen Angels were more often the victim of sexual innuendos, trashy costuming, humiliating situations, boring boyfriends, and adolescent giddiness than their TV counterparts ever were.
I honestly love late 90s early 2000s movies especially horror movies because they are so damn over the top and strange and so 2000s.
@You're under 19 don't argue yeah I have quite the collection of movie soundtracks from that era. I love all the nu-metal stuff.
You just made me remember how awesome this movie is. The music, the fight scenes and a little booty never hurt anyone.
"Shake what God gave you but my money made better." - This should be the quote of 2023. Chambers stole the show with that line.
14:00 I was waiting for wonder woman to fly in.
Funny story: As someone who was actually born in the early in the early 2000s, I've of course heard of this movie as a kid but never saw it or apparently knew what it was about-
So I went my whole life not knowing what this movie was, but I THOUGHT I knew what it was, because I thought for the first TWENTY years of my life, that "Charlie's Angels" was actually the late 90s Disney baseball movie "Angels in the outfields", and I'm not gonna lie-
I almost would've preferred to keep it that way now that I know what this movie was, but now I have a funny story instead-
That's really the only silver lining I see-
The rest of me is going "How did Bill Murray go from Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day to this on the dawn of my birth?-"
What I loved about this movie, and still love, is Tim Curry 😊
Doug breaking in the middle of this line is so funny to me 13:26
Crispin glover is enough of a reason to watch this movie because he's such a underrated actor and is do damn good in anything he does.
LOL! Love the MSt3K clip, of Mike saying "Did you see my butt?"
“I worked with Martin Scorsese? He smells like pie?”
Golly day! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bill has an extended family that's just as awesome as he is.
this feels more like a parody movie than anything else.
I _wish_ this was a parody movie. They could've poked _so much_ fun at the spy genre, but all they do is just put them in costumes.
And what's wrong with that?
Oh, it could definitely be more 2000s. The whole movie should take place either at night or during overcast conditions in a grungy city while Evansecence is playing behind the entire film.
It’s pre-9/11 that’s why, entertainment changed enormously after 2001
@@Damon242 The cold opening with LL Cool J and the mad bomber on the airplane in particular, aged horrendously post-9/11. The whole scene is virtually played up for laughs and like it's no big deal.

Lets face it. If about 90% of the men that saw this movie had Lucy Liu standing on them giving them a massage they too would pretty much just make gurgling noises like Curry.

26:03 okay, maybe Tom Cruise isn’t AS crazy as I thought of him for doing all his own stunts. MI: Fallout is cinematic religious text compared to this scene. Hell, 60’s Batman & Robin climbing ‘up’ buildings is gold when held up against this bit.

It was Ally McBeal that made me a fan of Lucy Liu. That was one of the main reasons I watched this film. Well, that and Cameron Diaz, esepcially after seeing her in The Mask
Try watching her in Elementary.

It was just so entertaining and dynamic every scene
I remember watching that movie endlessly on VHS when I was a kid. To me it was really fun. A lot of memorable sets, actions, great soundtrack, actors having a blast. Even Bill Murray, who Nostalgia Critic disses here, I feel is great entertainment. And, to be honest, I think the movie is self-aware and realizes its audience. Plus, I distinctively remember each character's personality, despite what the review tries to say otherwise
17:41 Doug, you should look at the Evil Con Carne episode Ultimate Evil.
And right after this review I decided to watch the movie. I can't help it, I still love it. 😁
It's a lot of fun
