Namjoon doesn’t always do “epic” and “massive” tracks/videos. He just released RPWP, a grittier experimental jazzy hip hop album. I’d say to anyone new to BTS and members, especially RM: they will always surprise you. RM could be philosophical and vocal one song, then be shouting “rappers who don’t even have haters can shut up” in another. He can make us dance while chanting about feeling lost, then be humming over boom bap and saxophone…. And every time, they are authentically him. Every member’s dynamic and a lot more complex than what you’ll ever be introduced to at first. But they aren’t always so intense or serious either.
I’d say, check out “Airplane Pt 2” to get a feel of every member and how they all shine without going down the same poppy English songs path as every other reaction channel. It’s one of many of their songs that people always go “damn, why didn’t more people recommend this one instead of ___ first?” It’s a huge Army favorite out of the b-sides.

Flower work is intentional. Firework in Korean is made up of the characters fire and flower. So it’s now a play on the word when they say light a firework/flower work
RM is such a gifted songwriter and beautifully conveys what he feels! I appreciate you focusing on the lyrics and wanting to get a better understanding of the meaning. So many people just gloss over that and it's a shame! For his RM's hard raps, check out "Joke" and "Do You".
Forget hardships they had early in their career, they still have plenty of hardships to this day. I mean just look at all that's happening regarding Suga's current situation and the Korea media practically spreading an entire smear campaign against him. The hate, racism, xenophobia etc. has never ended for BTS and it might even be worse now because of how popular they are.

Their hardships never ended. Now they have money and bigger audience but hate and misinformation never ends. You can't even imagine to what lengths people are ready to go only to spread hate towards them
There is a video talking about their hardships, which were a whole lot but I think for him personally was he was only 18 and put in the leadership of a group that people were constantly looking down on and he had to be the strong figure for the rest of the guys as well as interpret for them. There is a great expectation in Korea for Kpop groups. A very clean don’t do anything wrong image they must maintain a type of perfection. RM had even greater expectations on him as the leader. In his newer song groin he talks about that pressure I can’t imagine at that age being thrust into that. People forget celebrities are humans who make mistakes and are imperfect just like us.

The official MV’s have decent lyrics but… Asian languages are contextual… ideas can be transmitted in very brief lines but carry other references and meanings… and RM adds to this a very deep level of wordplay… even the flower work firework reference is a cultural and historic reference

Here is some extra info on RM for you...
Name Kim Namjoon Born in 1994
He is BTSs leader, main rapper, composer, songwriter, producer... he has over 220 song copyrights and is the youngest and most credited Idol and a full member of the Korea copyright association
He is known for his deep lyrics and moving speeches.
Predebut RM, known under the names Runch Randa, Largo, Stealo, and the Nexist in the underground hiphop community was already a prodigy in rap despite being 13years old (he started in the underground scene at 11 years old) impressing other rappers. RunchRanda which basically meant 'I am Runcha', he has said it was inspired by a Maple Story game character he had at the time.
He was known to be so good that even older underground rappers in their 20s and 30s didn't wanna battle against him. Also, because of his low-midtone voice, philosophical lyrics and flashy rap skills he gained quite the popularity among hiphop fans. (Jungkook joined the same agency as he had been so impressed the first time he saw RM perform...)
Throughout 2008-2010 , RM (Runch Randa or Randa ) was mentioned multiple times by other rappers in their songs mostly complimenting RM or wishing they had skills or fame as him. An example for that is when Zico* made a diss song to Philophon (35yo) who is also a rapper saying "you got your ass handed to you by a 13 yr old Runch" referencing that Philophon already lost to teen Namjoon.
RM joined BigHit in 2010 at 15 years old. His audition.was watched by the CEO BangShiHyuk and RM was offered a contract on the spot.... He was 18 when BTS debuted.

This song has made me feel sad and hopeful at the same time. RM has transcended from his previous songs. Listen to "Joke" it is more hard core rap and also, all the Cypher's, Ugh and Ddaeng from the rapline!

IThis music video is an example of someone creating a new lyric translation where a previous one already existed in order to make money while totally forgetting the concept of subtitles. In any work, especially one with fast rap, the object is to enhance the understanding of foreign communications. Here the translator at many points self-indulgently graffitied over a beautiful expressive music video routinely shifting the reader's eyes and not allowing the type of visual integration common to foreign films. I love Wildflower. It is one of RM'S most intimate works. I never saw this showboat lyricizing before and frankly hate seeing anyone monetizing altering an original artist's efforts. Good on you for finding Wildflower. I only wish you would of found the original translated version. You would have understood it better and maybe given its depth waited until the video finished letting its meaning sink in before rushing to turn on your own music.

I would recommend The BTS Guide by Mari Taylor. That is a must see first all new Army and you will see samples of songs that you may want to listen too. Also, many of BTS lyrics are poetry filled with double meanings and lots of word play.
