Thanks for this timely podcast! I appreciate the insights and practical application I gleaned from it since navigating men and women relations in church can be quite delicate. I also like how light-hearted this is. Oh, the title's perfect. 😄

When it comes to the context of the work of the church, men's essential work is direct (church planters, preachers, writers, and teachers) and multifaceted. Women's essential work inside the church is indirect (meaning through their roles as daughters, wives, and mothers) and relational. Man is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man.
Adam's essential work in the garden was to tend the garden, protect the garden, and name the animals. Eve's essential work in the garden was to be Adam's help. Eve's essential work does not exist apart from Adam. Adam cannot do his work well without Eve.
Single men have essential work inside the church.
Single women have no essential work inside the church.
Married men have essential roles inside the church that are distinct from their role as husband. (Elder)
Married women do not have essential roles inside the church that are distinct from their role as a wife or mother.
6:36 Yes. We as 21st century Westerners would be concerned with that dynamic. I doubt the first century church would be concerned about that dynamic.
If you knew nothing about church demographics and you just listened to this podcast, you might walk away thinking that there are thousands of churches out there where 80% of the attendees are men and 20% are women because churches are not providing a compelling message for women and lack access to leadership, when in reality the opposite is true.
The advice at the end is bad. Pastors should not be pursuing shepherding opportunities with single women. Men should not be looking to women for spiritual formation. The Church is not a true and better family; the church is the bride of Christ. I would not be surprised if they took down this podcast in the next 72 hours.
