Only heard of her due to VV Brown's interview on lack of representation in media for black women and she mentioned how amazing yet underrated Laura Mvula is. She didn't lie, this song is great and should be on the radio and yet they play the same 20 songs everyday for half the year!
Read that article also. Thing is record companies follow the money and Laura's not bankable. Could claim racism but that's not true in the case of signed musicians. If you hear a song and it catches you, you buy it. Only hard line fascist's would defy that trend. Look at Motown and jazz, that boomed in a far more racist era. Racism is a real problem but becomes a bigger problem, when it's claimed unfairly.
This song is so cool. If you have a small Italian car and put the roof down and the windows down this is the perfect tune for just feeling the road and being in the moment. The kids love this, I love it. Brilliant work from Laura this - it really is a killer track. :)
Nah he wouldn't his style changed as the years went by lol. And it was Quincy Jones who wrote 'Off The Wall' and 'Thriller' at least that's my understanding lol.
I've seen Laura numerous times in concert, she's a super- talented and classy performer, her albums are all top-notch, I couldn't believe when her record company dropped her, a crazy decision and her winning an Ivor Novello in the same year made it even more ludicrous. It's fantastic to hear the new material, a new vibe, but the same talented artist at the heart of it all, loving the Nile Roger's influence too and really looking forward to the album!
“Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference ….”
When I first heard this in the radio in my car, I thought it was some track from the 80’s. It’s got a definite Jackson vibe to it. When the DJ said it was Laura Mvula I was shocked. Downloaded it immediately
Bringing back the unparalleled visual artistry and feel good vibes of the 80’s. Serving up fierce vocals and curvy perfection. Color pops and chocolate drops.
This must be the best pop-song ever. It's like God himself came down and made the track, Laura sang on it, made this unbelievable good video, it's like nothing around; so fucking excellent - like Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack made a baby with the Jackson Catalogue. Never get tired of this. If you have a sexy car - roll down the windows and the roof and just play this. Omfg. Pure gold this stuff. So jacked. So jacked.
This album is going to be incredible. It's been nothing but a series of hits so far. Laura is SO talented and these songs bring such joy - something we all need!
This album has been nothing but hits so far
B
This has a Beverley Hills Cop feel to it
This tune is a cross between micheal jackson and a soundtrack for beverley hills cop. I love it 😍

VV Brown also belongs in that category of someone who should be on the radio and more well-known.

VV Brown?! When was this? I didn't know she was still around like that.
wow… this sounds like an 80s classic all over… Billy Ocean meets Janet Jackson… Laura is a Goddess.

This song is epic
You ain’t lie 🥳🥳🥳
If MJ was still around and wrote + produced a song with Laura, it would look and sound like this!
Exactly my thoughts 🥳🥳🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh. My. F. God. Yes.
Nah he wouldn't his style changed as the years went by lol. And it was Quincy Jones who wrote 'Off The Wall' and 'Thriller' at least that's my understanding lol.
I would say Prince, but yea. the synth rock of it all...
It sounds somewhat iike MJ's "The Way You Make Me Feel" to me. More of a MJ thing than a Prince thing IMO.
Just heard this played 2:30pm 4.12.22 over public media radio 9.19 FM DOLBY Louisville, KY. phenomenal quality.
This is HIGHLY underrated… Reminds me of young Michael Jackson, love it

A wink to the bassline and sound of Billy Ocean's "When the Going Gets Tough"?
Yes, I thought so too since the 1st moment I heard it. I was wondering if anybody else noticed it. Takes me back and I love it.
