For me, this is the funniest episode. I always giggle uncontrollably through the whole thing. Its just some genius, funny writing in there. Some Sokka shenanigans against idiocy, Aang on his quest to get out of the friendzone, Katara being her usual obsessed self, this weird-ass town full of delusional people... Its great.
I always loved the comedy in this episode, these villagers were ridiculous 😂. In terms of the firebending from zuko and zhao and other not yet revealed characters, just remain patient. The show will divulge all the information u need to judge firebenders in the future, don’t worry
The thing is ALL of aunt wu’s predictions were right. She didnt say the volcano wont errupt, she said the village wontbe destroyed by the volcano this year. The wonder of this episode is it puts the freedom to the viewer in deciding if aunt wu is a fraud or not
That is true. She technically wasn‘t wrong. If we talking real life then I must say I myself don‘t believe in it. But I would actually still do it just for fun as long it‘s not super expensive or anything. I would definitely not change how I live my life tho depending on what the fortune teller says. But that‘s me. I know some people that actually believe in this kind of stuff and that’s completely cool with me.
@@shadowreacts oh i didnt expect you to read this comment haha. Yes same here i dont believe in fortune telling as i value logic over superstition but getting your fortune told seems like a fun thing to try. *patiently waits for the avatar react vids*
I don't think Zuko is highly trained in swords due to any deficiency in firebending. He's highly trained because he was the crowned prince of a nation in generational war. He's also highly trained in firebending for the same reason. He's trained to be a warrior-leader from childhood. In real life, don't believe in fortune telling. However, in a show with bending, spirituality, three young teens riding a non-aerodynamic six-legged bison, I can totally accept fortune telling. I'd note that all of her predictions in this episode did come true, but they all led back to what she tells Aang in the end. The people have to be active in making it happen, whether it's as minor as dodging the platypus-bear or major as digging a trench for lava. Still, I'd be Sokka here too...
I bloody love how quickly you absorb a show and give really insightful analysis in your reactions. No spoilers but I know you are going to love Zuko's character development
I don’t really believe in it, but i have always wanted to go get my cards pulled and palms read, I’d be open minded about it. Seems kind of interesting 🤔 but I’m with sokka here 😂
Yea same here. I would have fun with it but not stress about it. And I would certainly not let an old lady with a cloudbook tell me that my family is not gonna burn to death lmao
I'm not sure if you noticed, but the animals in this show are mixed(usually 2 kinds) so don't be so surprised about the platypus bear(this episode) or reptile bird (pirates episode) or elephant koi(kyoshi warriors ep) etc. Also, there are some just mystical like dragons or giant serpents. Just want you to know))
Fun Fact: Mang's VA comes back later for a larger role in the show. I can't unhear that character every time she speaks. I have a headcanon that Aunt Wu knows they all trust her too much, and has her own method for checking the volcano. Aang found out about the volcano because we went to get a rare panda lily that only grows near the top of the volcano. He got the idea after seeing a guy who had just done it. I like to think that periodically, she gives people that fortune/advice so they will go and will see how the volcano is without thinking of it as a perilous task, and then gives her prediction based off if they mention anything about it when she next sees them. ...But this guy was so focused and stupid he didn't even notice. TBH, I'm really not a fan of Aang/Katara for many reasons. The biggest reason being personal experience of being 14/15 and a 12 year old having a crush on you is incredibly uncomfortable. I won't get into other reasons because most are spoilers. But I feel like the idea was put in her head a little bit in this episode. Like she didn't consider it until Sokka pointed out he was a powerful bender. Even when Aunt Wu first said she'd marry a powerful bender, she never thought of him, even though she is travelling with the Avatar, which would probably be most people's first few thoughts. I do love the episode's theme of 'of course it will come true if you're looking for it/making it happen'. On the side of fortune-telling, I read tarot. Though, for me, it's more of a fun thing. And I tend to see it less as a way of seeing your future, and more of introspection and connecting patterns. A lot of what comes up in tarot is very self-relective. Say I pulled The Tower (upheaval, disaster) I would think of all the things I know could go wrong soon. Which would then make me think of ways to work around it. Even the 'bad' cards help.
there is a theory that Aunt Wus prediction about the great battle between the forces of good and evil actually refers to something (not saying what) that happens in the follow up series The Legend of Korra in Aangs next life. I don't believe it tho because they didn't plan LOK yet when this episode aired.
I don't believe in fortune-telling at all, but still practice a bit of tarot and wax reading. It's fun, it trains imagination and it's completely harmless if you don't take it seriously. Even if you do, I have nothing against it, just like with religion, as long as you don't disregard critical thinking and common sense completely
To me fortune telling seems as bout as reasonable as selling snake oil or reading a mess of tea leaves, People make things up as they go long and hope that you're too enraptured by the mystical aspect that they're sling into your mouth that you won't notice.
There are things that science can't explain. But I tend to be more towards science. But way back in the dark ages, science was seen as magic. Because no one understood it at the time. There people in the scientific community that completely dismiss spirituality and anything mystical. But that is very naive thinking. They make no attempt to understand and figure it out. Just as sokka said you can't rely to much on fortune telling. I think we rely on science to much.
Dude, they're scientists. They dismiss it, because they've _already_ attempted to understand and figure it out. And so far, they've found no evidence of anything supernatural. Just con-artists. For the longest time there was a one million dollar paranormal challenge, where anyone who could provide sufficient evidence would receive cash in return. In the end, no one ever won the prize.
@@chere100 exactly, so far. But how long did it take them to figure out blood transfusion or organ transplanting or mental health treatment? All that was just seen as nonsense and non-viable forms of treatment. That it was just magic and superstition. It's no different with with spirituality today. They refuse to study it and just dismiss it as nonsense. But there is proof for bio electric communication and mental communication. It's due to those few unique individuals that were willing to push the bar of what we know and can prove. So your argument is fallacious. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Well sometimes science can be too dogmatic. A majority of scientists didn't believe in continents moving until the early 1970s despite evidence going back to the 1940s. There was a few holdout scientists who still believed they didn't move up till the 80s.

Yea true Royalty always gets good training in any form of combat especially the prince.
Can’t deny that she got it all right haha
In all fairness though, the show does keep it pretty vague whether or not Aunt Wu's predictions are real or not, which I actually do like.

Yea somebody mentioned that before but I can’t always pinpoint the 2 animals involved haha
They're not all mixed. Last episode had regular frogs. The elephant Koi wasn't mixed. It's just a really ginormously big Koi.
