Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Thank you for another wonderful video, your four car unit just looks amazing and the sound of the train going round would probably be the same sound I would have heard as a young lad in the early 1960s as my trains went round my track when it was on my mum's living room carpet. Happy days indeed, oh how I wish I could time travel back to my early years and hear my dad talking to me as he sat next to me. Your wonderful layout always brings back so many memories for me. Well it's nearly 07.30 am , Sunday morning and I am going to make a cup of tea and my toasted tea cake. Thank you for another amazing video Oscar. Keep safe, have a good week and ill see you next Sunday. 👍 🚂🚃

In the early 60’s, I had a Triang 2BIL unit. I superdetailed it and added internal lighting as well. Sadly I gave it away, but I now have three of Hornby’s modern 2BIL units, and they run very smoothly, no grinding sound like the old sintered iron wheels on the 1957 model!

It's been a while since I've watched your videos, but my love of Southern Region EMUs drew me in. The railway has come along really nicely since I last saw it, although I didn't realise how close Bristol and Exeter are 😉
As for the ability of the unit on a gradient, I think physics explains why pushing will work better. Acceleration will cause weight transfer to the rear of the unit. When the power bogie is leading, this will reduce the grip on the track and cause slip. With the driving unit at the rear, the weight transfers onto the driving bogie to give better traction.

Fantastic running this week with both the Hornby Dublo and the Tri-ang models. I loved the side by side running, very exciting to see. I am in awe of how smooth your older models run. I have the Southern suburban pair, I never knew there were additional coaches available, and mine is newer with Mk III couplers but it doesn't run that well anymore. A good service is needed I suppose. Thank you Oscar, a great video. David.

Good morning Oscar, that was a nice running session, what a nice train set the suburban train in southern railway green, and with the extra 2 coaches it makes up to a nice train. I thought she handled the elevated section very well fits the station perfectly. Seeing you had a couple of issues with dirty track, brought a question to mind, I've started using a piece of chamois leather to clean my track, it was a suggestion of Tony Northeastern, it does a really good job and is gentle on the track, sometimes if I get stubborn stains I use my peco track rubber, but for day to day I use the chamois. I take it you don't have any worries with the use of track rubbers. Only a thought its always a subject for discussion. Anyway really enjoyed my Sunday morning fix, the Railway is looking great at the moment, thanks for your time and trouble making these very interesting and nostalgic videos. Take care Oscar, see you next time Eddy xxx😊

Love the EMU's and have featured them many times. These need to have the axle bearings kept lubricated to prevent wear as any wear results in loss of pickup through the chassis. Wonderful to see one working as built.

Great start to Sunday again Oscar. What a treat to see some Southern Region activity on the rails. My era and area. I’ve got that track and controller but not nearly in the condition of yours. I well remember the battery holder, though I don’t think I’ve got that anymore. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

Very enjoyable running session. Although the Triang EMU is not an exact likeness, it captures the Southern Electric look, and the 4SUB looked splendid on the elevated section, stopping at Peckham Rye. Good to see the faithful 0-6-2T at work too.

Hello Oscar, the EMU on the elevated section just looks soooo good 😊👍
Dirty track is a pain ! I’ve surprised to discover how critical it can be on Dublo 3-rail. On my old two rail layout I used Relco HF Generators which made a huge différence. I fig one out of the cellar and out it into service on the 3-rail layout. It has improved running greatly. Obviously it will never eliminate manual cleaning, but it dies make it a lot less frequent. They can still be found quite cheaply, though Relco no longer make them. I believe Gaugemaster bought the rights and produce one today. Maybe worth a thought. If I was in the UK I’d happily lend you one of mine to test, but I’m near Lyon in France, so not really doable. All the best! Rob

A great video this morning Oscar, I have really started taking an interest in the southern region 3rd rail units recently with getting a few of their locomotives so in all honesty I wouldn’t mind getting this 2 car set, as long as it’s not a rare piece these days will keep a look out and if possible pick one up at some point, keep up the great work Oscar.

    • @johnd8892

This EMU is a bit on the rare side. It sold so poorly, that it only lasted into the 1963 catalogue. Unlike the Triang DMU set that lasted into the seventies. One of the first Triang items of motive power that were withdrawn from production.
Its rarity can mean the price may be higher than more commonly produced items.

    Hi Oscar,
Nice running session with Triang EMU and steam HD. Again an example of how crucial clean track is but not all trains are so sensitive in that era. I sometimes wonder how some of them run at all on dirty track.
Interesting example of push/pull and wheelspin on the gradient, I didn’t do physics at school, if that’s what is.
Finally, it wouldn’t be Sunday morning without an ear bashing from a set of serrated wheels on a motor bogie. 😀

Thanks Oscar, I do love the Triang EMU , I did pick up a dummy and power car recently that, after a remag and lube now runs really well, I do enjoy the different combinations you can run them in. I have to agree with your comments on the Prichard design Dublo coupling, they are time consuming to adjust and are still unreliable, and nylon version is just terrible, even the Triang MK2 is more dependable, thanks again for a great feature.

Hi Oscar I don't know if you've tried it but try a wooden coffee stirrer on your track just rub it gently over them it beats the track rubbers' hands down and doesn't damage the surface of the track!

    Good morning Oscar
Another great video, I particularly enjoyed the Southern Region theme today. As a boy, I grew up in London and the old Southern Railway EMUs were a very common sight. They had a very distinctive Art Deco feel about them, ranging from the front ends to the carriages and the compartment interiors, sadly all gone now.
The Dublo tin plate suburban coaches are always a favourite of mine. I remember my grandfather, who incidentally had a big Dublo collection, giving me one as present for my layout.
This hobby of ours is more than just ‘playing train’, it’s all about nostalgia 😉
I’m curious as to why you ran your ex-LNER N2 tank locomotive with the S.R. suburban coaches ? 🤔, it should have been a Dublo B.R. Standard 4 tank locomotives, or maybe that’s just my OCD talking !! lol 😂
I’m not sure if you have
a Dublo West Country class locomotive in your collection but if you have it would be great to see one on your layout and thereby continue the Southern Region theme!

Very good performers there Oscar. The Dublo 3 rail system seems to be the equal of 2 rail. I do have the RFX set, and it was probably a novelty at the time, but mine is an underperformer in general. The magnet is fine, probably need to rewind the commutator. Thus it sits in its box. I hate that job. Great video mate, your layout has it all. Steven.

Hi Oscar, thanks for another great video.
Like yourself, I am a man who loves the old Triang Hornby stuff as well.
I recently found a pair of the original Hymeks - and as they have been in box in a cupboard for over 40 years - they don't work! I stripped them down and rebuilt them, but they still won't work.
So I decided to give them a complete rebuild with all new components. Only problem is - I can't get parts for love nor money. So, I was wondering if you could possibly help me locate the parts that I need?
    Thanking you in anticipation.

Hello again Oscar. I always preferred the Triang EMU to the com[eting Dublo EMU, which I believe was based on an LMR/LMS type. The RFX set however was a slow seller in the area that I grew up in, though it was well liked by Triang fans. Your crossovers when you operate the railway, does one switch operate both points simultaneously ? If it does can you explain how you did it, regards Paul

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  4 месяца назад

Good morning Paul, thanks again for taking the time to watch. Glad you like the Tri-ang EMU, there are a number of set of points, set up to operate as pairs/crossovers, to get them to throw together, I wire them into a single switch. It may be necessary to transpose the red and green wires on one to get them throw in the correct direction together. Hope this is of some help. If you send me an email, I could send you a drawing.

Hi Oscar, I enjoyed watching the "Suburban rakes" of coaches?
The E.M.U. performed well? I only have the motor and trailer cars... I have never found a green Suburban coach to go with them? I have the center car for the D.M.U's , but not for these? They are usually run with the motor car at the back, (no chance of the Mk. 2 couplers letting go then)?
I looked at an earlier video of yours from about a year ago... Wow... How the layout has progressed? You have done a great job with the old Series 3 track? Now that there are lots of tracks on the table, it looks as good (almost) as Super 4 track? Seriously, it is a terrific layiut with so many interesting routes around it..
I love the "built-in" reversing loops on both the Dublo and Tri-ang tracks? And also like the turntable as an optional way from one Tri-ang circuit to the other? That's a really good idea? Especially good, for steam locos that change from front to back of their trains? It's as if the designers at Tri-ang had this in mind with the early turntable, and it's not having other 'outlet' tracks?
There is so much "play value" on this layout?
Really enjoyed the video.. Thank you..

Good morning Robin, thanks for looking in, been quite a bit of progress, especially in the last year on the railway, there's been a bit of a slow down in the last couple of months getting the next next things done, finding the spare time at present, it's proving difficult. They make a nice set the Motor & trailer car with the R.223 suburban coaches, glad you enjoyed seeing them underway.
      All the best.
