New Narratives: “Nature, Power and Maya Rituals” with Griselda Pérez Robles

Los arqueólogos han realizado excavaciones en la región maya durante más de cien años, realizando importantes descubrimientos acerca de esta antigua civilización. Una parte importante de este trabajo es el cuidado y conservación de objetos portátiles, esculturas y construcciones antiguas que forman parte del patrimonio.
En esta charla, Pérez Robles presentará varios ejemplos de su trabajo de conservación de objetos mayas de Guatemala y Belice. Esto implica el trabajo en esculturas que aún se encuentran en su ubicación original dentro de dos sitios mayas y la reconstrucción de piezas cerámicas, algunas de las cuales se encuentran actualmente en exhibición en la Galería Dorada de SAMA. Hablará de cómo las piezas de cerámica del Museo de Arte de San Antonio han pasado por procesos similares.
Archaeologists have been excavating the Maya region for over a hundred years, making important discoveries about this ancient civilization. An important part of this work is the care and conservation of portable objects, sculptures, and old buildings that are part of the heritage.
In this talk, Pérez Robles will present several examples of her work conserving Maya objects from Guatemala and Belize. This involves working on sculptures that are still in their original location within two Mayan sites and the reconstruction of ceramic pieces, some of which are currently on display at SAMA's Golden Gallery. She will talk about how the ceramic pieces in the San Antonio Museum of Art have gone through similar processes.
