I'm not going to say it's Moore's finest work - plenty of others with, perhaps, more scholarship and more layers to unpeel - but it will always, I think, be the one I love the most.
The Ballad of Halo Jones, as a series, received a gift from Moore by reaching a conclusion without being completed. These days series are done, done to death, resurrected, rebooted, flipped, flopped, and put away broken and wet. There's something wonderful about knowing that Halo Jones was ended but a true conclusion, which does exist, will never be created. It heightens the legend of what is already an exceptional work.
I still hold out hope that someday Moore & Gibson will return to this project and finish the story in the pages of 2000 AD. I know Moore's retired from comics now, but crazier things have happened.
I remember struggling with it initially when it was in 2000AD. You have to get to grips with the world and the slang. Reading it in graphic novel form is much more satisfying. I find myself re-reading it every few years and always find myself astonished with how easy it is to going on the journey with Halo.
Many would say Judge Dredd was the best thing to come out of 2000 AD, but in my honest opinion, that accolade belongs to Halo Jones - sorry to hear that more adventures were planned only to be scuppered by a dispute.
Borag Thungg! First, I wanted to say thanks for covering Halo Jones...I actually picked up the collected volume at a public library several years ago and I absolutely fell in love. The art style, the story...the only thing negative I have to say is that it is just too short. Although the story did span a good chunk of Halo's life, I'd have loved to see more of her adventures that happened in between the chapters...or I'd even have loved to see her world expanded and meet other characters... living out their lives in The Hoop. I also wanted you to know that I am absolutely LOVING this series. This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I've always wanted... someone intimately familiar with 2000AD to present some highlights from the back issues...with little stories about the writers or popular opinion of the comics thrown in...please keep going! I am from America, but I really like British comics and especially that uniquely English sense of humor (a lot of Americans really are just as crude and angry as the rest of the world thinks they are... what I wouldn't give to meet more folks that know how to laugh at the world and especially laugh at themselves!) Anyways, as I said...please continue this series as long as you can! I'm nuts about Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog and the spin-offs (I've read almost all the collected issues)...but I'd really like to branch out more and find other little collected gems. Zarjaz!
I own a complete set of Halo Jones Comics! both standard issues and Graphic Novels!!! I am still hoping for a proper Live Action feature film on this!.. One day! :)
loving these ABC's! Halo Jones was wonderful stuff and seeing those panels again is going to dent my wallet a bit! I'll have to get the collected works.
Keep these vids coming. I've been a longtime fan of 2000ad but even I don't know all of these fab books that I've discovered thanks to this great video series. Keep em coming.
I've loved The Ballad Of Halo Jones since I first read it in the mid 80's. All of Alan Moore's characters felt alive (I dislike Toby, and 30 years on I still feel a bit sad at Toy Molto's death). You could almost be living in the same universe as Halo, I wish they had carried on with the story. Sadly I doubt we will see book four.
I've not read Halo Jones since it was first publish. I knew it was something special at the time but wasn't old enough to truly appreciate it. It's time to reacquaint myself and go digital.
+Mr2at I was the same. Didn't appreciate it fully until I returned to it a few years after it first appeared. It deserves the praise it gets. Highly recommended.
"I'm not going to say it's Moore's finest work " I am. I'll always wonder how the other six books might have turned out but like most things, three was probably the perfect number.
absolutely love the story..... i own a nice hardcover copy and it's a coffee table book in my home and i try to get anyone who visits to start reading it as i know once they've started they will have to finish..... it should be required reading in schools!!!
It should be reprinted in better quality like the recent Dan Dare book. Ian Gibsons art is highly detailed. Wouldn't it be amazing if Alan Moore agreed to complete the other 6 books?!
One of my top faves... Shame it didn't run longer. I 'm guessing that the flash-forwards to the distant future when Halo is a mythic historical figure indicates that there was all sorts of cosmic adventures ahead..... I guess it's unlikely Moore and Gibson will ever revisit Halo Jones. Shame Fleetway had such a condescending/rip-off attitude to the creators.

I'm now 73 & still feel the loss
Oh - to be transported to the world of H. J is a memory to be Treasured.
Thanks for the Joy.

Not likely for Ian Gibson. He's dead last year.

One of the best ever. I have the original comics and two graphic novel versions plus two T-shirts.
I never knew about this story. One to look out for.
Really need to read this. Loving these videos!
I love halo jones, I need to re buy, the comics again, the artworks is amazing.

Am liking this series, just about to finish off reading the last few Slaines. Can't wait to get my teeth into some more 2000Ad
+way2tehdawn Try Nemesis The Warlock - from the same writer of the Slaine series and my absolute favourite 2000ad story.
Wish you guys would do everything in your power to get Alan Moore to write book 4.
"due to a dispute between Moore and the publisher..." Ha! So what's new?!
Frustrating as this really is a masterpiece.
Thank you !
My first crush!

My favorite. ❤❤❤

Got the graphic novel brilliant comic.
I'd love to see this made into a movie! I loved it so much
The story have a end?
I know it was supposed to run to nine books, but 3 is perfection, it usually is.
It's hardly...." Complete"
Alan should stop the dispute and continue the story of The Ballad of Halo Jones.
what an insult that Transvision Vamp did a song about it and that that awful synthpop boyband Halo James took their name from it
@zim zam it's an insult for such an awful band to do a song about HJ

What have you done to honour the memory, aside from slagging off a Great Band ---Hmmm?
