The inspiration for this song was the death of lead guitarist Robert McDowell's father from cancer. The song isn't completely about him, but he died shortly before they started recording the album and that influenced this song and the entire album, A Black Mile to the Surface.

First of all, it makes me so happy that you guys like this band!!! LET'S GOOO! BUT I honestly don’t know 100% what the song is about lol I think they are a little out of my league with their intelligence because I’ve tried to read up on the meaning of it in the past, and it’s just very wordy and I am not sure if I understood it properly. HOWEVER, I think the general idea is that it’s about letting go of regret and making sure that you are trying to be the best person possible instead of worrying about what other people think of you. There’s the one lyric that’s like, “I deserve it, I've been stalling, I've been selfish, I've been wrong. Finally I heard my name, the absolution called” and I think absolution is when you confess your sins at the church and they are forgiven? I could be wrong, like I said, it’s way out of my comprehension level lol Once you guys said you’re not super into the lyrics as much as the music, I kind of put less consideration into the lyrics for the songs I request and now I look like an idiot because I don’t know what it’s about either 🤡 When Dallas said she would listen to this song while hiking in Oregon, I felt like that was super specific and I have no idea what it meant but I love that Andrea immediately understood, such a sweet bond between ya. ANYWAYS, like I said, I am so hype that you guys are liking this band so far! Not gonna lie though, as much as I care about you guys liking the music I request, I sort of want to try and find a song that Andrea doesn’t like since it seems like that would be a good challenge since she’s liked every single song so far. OH BEFORE I FORGET, I started listening to y’all’s playlists and I’ve found sooo many new songs so far. Especially on Dallas’ list since I already knew a lot of the songs on Andrea’s. You both have such good music taste. Also, what are your restrictions for songs and whatnot?? I want to request a band and the song is normal, like it’s not inappropriate at all, but the band name has the P word in it, the one that rhymes with corn 👀 I am not sure if you guys are willing to have that word in the title and to say it lol

We both love this band or at least I do. I can’t speak for Andrea. Fair enough lol! It’s ok. We struggle with lyrics anyways. Yeah there are some songs that I love that remind me of Oregon. Weird I know. I lived there for 3 years and there is something so relaxing/ whimsical about that state. It’s beautiful and peaceful. When I find music that reminds of that state I latch onto it. 😊 Yeah Andrea literally likes anything, so that will be a tough task. 🙂 Yay! I’m so glad you have found some new music! Curious to which songs/artists you liked?! -Dallas

@@dna2001 Ohh, I didn't realize you lived in Oregon lol that's not weird though, if it reminds you of something you've experienced before. I had assumed you never went hiking there before so it felt like a very random comparison but now I get it lol The artists from your playlist that I added one or multiple songs from are The Paper Kites (who I already knew but I didn't know the song you had), Chris Stapleton, The Lumineers, Luke Combs, The Chicks, and Brandon Lake. such good songs/artists!! Your playlist also had a lot of songs that I already knew, but there were some that I had forgotten about and I was so hype so hear them again, like Creedence Clearwater Revival especially!!

@_HolyHell_ yes! We enjoyed our time there, but the Midwest will always be home! Yes!!! So glad you found some EXCELLENT artists! Oh man CCR brings me way back. My dad used to play them all the time in the car. Good memories for me so on the playlist. Plus they are so good! 😊-Dallas
